B for.......

Hi,
Long time no post again,
I'd been meaning to post for so long,
but everytime I'd sit down on the computer,
would end up doing something else!
At last a digest update on what I've been upto.....
.
1.BIRTHDAYS
.
My hubby's B'day was on 4th Sep
What a pity you can't really make many crafty things for men!
I know there are things but
somehow Vikas is a very leather & no frills kind of person.
What could i gift him?
What better way to a man's heart?
I COOKED!
(I rarely enter the kitchen let alone cook!)
BAKED, in fact.
.
.
Vegetable pasta with lots of cheese.
Surprisingly,
though I'd made it for the 2nd time only,
everybody ate it
and liked it too!
.
A B'day just couldn't do without a cake
.
.
Vanilla cake topped with gooyeee
chocolate syrup topping.
.
My elder sister's B'day was on 9th Sep.
I wanted to make something exquisite and special for her.
She's always complaining
that everything I make goes to everybody else but her.
Lovingly made for my sis....
.
.
The body of the purse is done with
Tunisian crochet in wool,
Handles are bead crochet ropes
with peyote loops at the end to go into the
fabric loops.
The flowers are done in peyote stitch,
leaves in brick stitch,
lined with red velvet, hand sewn,
with a zipper at the top.
Gosh, this was heavy on my hands.
I hope she liked it.
.
2. BEADS
I've lately been exploring the world of beads
and the art of beading
.
.
This was my 1st try at even count peyote stitch.
I'm falling in love with bead crochet ropes and the
lovely things it makes.
.
3. BRACELET
.
I'd had these lovely blue beads for some time
and couldn't really figure out anything for them
until,
.
.
.
Here's the open lock that I made for the bracelet.
The loop is of course a simple string of beads,
the toggle is made up of another small piece of
crocheted tube and attached to the bracelet
with a loop of stringed beads.
The cool blue bracelet now gone to my dear mummy.
.
4. BEAD BANGLE
Done in fiery red and gold beads
 another crochet tube
joined at the ends to make a slip-on bangle.
.
.
.
The red and gold bangle in my hand between gold bangles.
.
5. BAGS
.
Little bags made with
TAPESTRY CROCHET
for what else,
MY MOBIlE!
.
.
.
Was brousing the net one day
and found this amazing site on
.
Had to try it out!
The grey bag done by making the stitch
in the back loop .
The black.... were supposed to be triangles
but ended up looking like ducks!
I found the button in an old discarded sewing box.
It must have been lying there for ages.
Here's another try....
.
.
.
.
The heart is a little misshaped
because it was difficult making out where to change threads
The top part hearts came out better.
It was all scrap wool but didn't really want to discard
the piece so made it into a little bag with a handle.
Can you guess what I've used for the button?
It's a part of an old sewing machine...
can you see the +/- markings on it....
I don't know what it's called
but it's for adjusting thread tension or something!
Looks pretty as a button though!
.
Tapestry crochet makes a thick, firm and a dense fabric,
The feel is so different than normal crochet lace.
It has a nice secure feel to it.
Definitely my mobile feels very secure in it
and is it's current attire.
.
6. Bad news
Our dog Rocky left us last week.
He had been a part of the family for last seventeen years.
I'm yet to see such a friendly,
loving, understanding dog.
We are all going to miss him so much.
May his soul rest in peace.
.
I'm not going to leave you on a sad note...
Take a look at what I found today,
.
.
Vaas's knitted dolls.
I can't even remember when I made them.
They used to be strung on an elastic thread
with big beads and bells in between,
which was tied on his pram.
.
Last,
but not the least,
here's a peek into what I'm tatting....
.
.
Don't know what it's going to be as yet....
any guesses?
So,
until next time,
LOVE,
PEACE
and
HAPPINESS
TO ALL.
(P.S Don't forget to leave comments!)

Beads......

Hello!!
I'm back earlier this time!
And I've found something new to do.
I'm beading!!!!
Bead crocheting, in fact.
I wanted to add some beads to my crochet,
browsed the net
and found some neat tutorials,
added beads to my thread,
and off I was into bead land!!!!
My 1st try was with 20 size thread
and little bigger beads.
Crochetted with a single chain crochet stich.
This is what I came up with...
.
.
Looks like a mulberry, doesn't it?
Added a big red bead at one end
and a bead top at the other.
The tops are also the 1st bead ones I've made.
This is how they look without the mulberrys..
.
.
.
Here are the the two finished tops side by side.
They now adorn the ears of my niece Khyati.
.
.
Somehow,
my work was looking like mulberrys
 and not like ropes.
The thread shows through,
The beads are loose
and I didn't know what was wrong!
Then,
found out that to make ropes we use the
slip stich!
Here's a try with that....
Not bad!!!
Now to decide what next to make
with this form of art.
.
.
In the meantime,
I've finished the
 pineapple crochet doily.
It had started to look a little crowded
so added the fringe
providing a little contrasting
 'negative space'
.
.
It didn't ditch me and did not ruffle!!!!
.
The tunisian crochet blanket
 for my son
has run into a little problem.
Something went wrong with the corners!
Actually,
I was getting a very square outcome,
as the difference of squares in the horizontal
and the vertical axis is of just 2 squares!
I added another row
at the lower and upper edge,
but,
this is what is happenning to the corners!
.
.
Got to figure out a way to get over this!!!
.
If I'm going to start something
in beaded crochet,
I've got to have a lot of thread!
But,
what do I do if the thread looks like this?
.
.
Got to get it untangled and to wind it over something!
This is what I came up with to solve this problem!
I had some old medicines lying around.
.
.
The plastic is quite thick and doesn't give way easily.
Remove the medicine part
.
.
Smooth out the edges,
shape it into something
you can wind your thread on
.
.
And wind your thread on it!
Do you notice the two slanting cuts at the two broad ends?
The thread ends can be tucked in to prevent unwinding.
.
.
specially for plastic threads,
like the one I'm going to work with!
That's a tutorial???!!!!
WHOAAA!!
My 1st again!
.
Sorry, no tatting this time,
No,
it doesn't mean
 "crochetization"
of a tatting blog!
but,
no tatting as of now!
So, until next time,
bye!
Do keep those beautiful comments coming.

Long time no see....

Hello friends!!
Where have I been?
What have I been doing?
Why have I not  posted for so long?
I DON"T KNOW!!!!
The only thing I know that I've been meaning
to post for a while and just could'nt find enough
 "me"
 time!
Well, we had another addition to our family....
My cousin sis had her 1st baby yesterday
and I have to show you the beautiful baby!!!
It's a baby boy!
.
Now going to what I've been making....
in fact producing in my
so called
"factory"
Lot's of crochet and little tatting...
(thats another reason I was not posting, you know)
My tatting blog is becoming a crochet blog!!!
.
.
That's the purse inside.
Lined and ready.
I'd made a little purse to go along with it.
My mother -in-law confiscated the purse with it's little one
as soon as I went to the bathroom!!!!
.
I'm so into crochet at the moment that I wanted to learn something new!
So, I tried out
Tunisian crochet
and while browsing for techniques I found
How could I resist,
I'm now into making this afghan for Vaasu.
Boy, it's gonna take ages!!!!
and lots and lots of yarn!!!!
Vaasu's already started to tuck his feet inside.
I hope he likes it!
.
One of my Patients delivered some days back
and I gifted the baby these booties.
So easy to make,
so small
 and
so pretty!!!
(I wanna have another baby!!)
.
.
How can You crochet and not make doilies???
And pineapples.....
ummmmm
deliciuos!!!
It's still growing...
and
 "I'm loving it"
It's lying flat till now
but I know it's going to ditch me and start ruffling!
Hoping for the better!!!
.
Too much of crochet- ain't it?
Let's talk about something else.
AAAH
KNITTING!!!
Little practice with cables lead you to
make little bags!
(Another cozy for my cell!!)
.
.
How can we go on ranting about everything else and not talk about
TATTING?
This is a tatting blog after all!!!
Twisty flower wines
(Like twisty garlic bread....What am I doing!!!
am I hungry?)
This is somewhat a continuation of the previous bookmark I'd posted in the last post but with more colours and an element of encapsulation and a Twist!
.
I've written down the pattern but its on paper
(and it takes time to get converted to ....
You know what!...I'm not getting the word!)
Allright,
That should be all for now.
I hope to get back sooner this time!
Luv you all
and please leave me some comments.
Bye
