Old Town White Coffee @ Kulim Hi Tech Park, Kedah

Well, I am sure everyone is very familiar with Old Town White Coffee outlets as they are well spread nationwide but this is about one of their outlets which I feel is the best in terms of design, spacing, facilities and staffs. This outlet is located in Kulim Hi-Tech Park right opposite the Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple.

Me At The Outlet
It is almost a must for me to visit this outlet every time I visit Kulim as I am able to work for hours from here while enjoying their great food. The environment is well ventilated giving it a cool feeling and the WiFi is great and stable. Just like any of their outlets, it is a common practice at Old Town White Coffee to browse through the menu, choose your food and tick the corresponding boxes in the order chit and then pass it to the waiter.

My Lunch
I settled for some simple lunch today. Just some friend frankfurters and their famous White Coffee. It was the most convenient for me as I had to work through some proposals and this finger food was ideal, less messy and since it was solid protein, it was able to fill my stomach up. Their White Coffee as always is excellent.

Supreme Curry Mee
This seems to be my dad's favourite order every time he comes here and not to forget at least three more cups of White Coffee that follows. The taste is definitely very good but look at the amount of oil. I guess the best dishes are always not the healthiest.

Us Having Lunch
On the whole, this would still score as my favourite Old Town White Coffee outlet and I have not come across any other outlet that can beat this. Definitely a great dining environment.

Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar @ Kulim, Kedah

Located on Jalan Raya KM 16 Kulim - Mahang, right beside the banks of Sungai Kob is this little restaurant called Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar. Having started their business about 20 years ago as a peddler, this shop serves great Malay Style Chicken Rice and has gained popularity since then. This is their first physical outlet and today they have around 10 shops scattered around Penang, Kedah and Northern Perak. I have heard much about this restaurant and since I am in Kulim today, decided to pop by for lunch. I was told that their Chicken Rice sells like hot cakes and we have to be there by 12 noon to ensure that we get to taste this.

Interior of the restaurant
The layout is quite simple but I was told that their later outlets have a modern touch to it. It is so busy that you would have to wait in line just to get a table. And then again, only drink orders are taken at the table. For the Chicken Rice, you would need to walk over to the counter, wait in line again, and grab your orders.

Birds of chicken sold like hot cakes
Even that little time that I was here, there were easily 30 birds of chicken were sold just like that. Besides those that dine in, their major business is take aways. During peak times, the queue of take aways can go as far as 20 or 25 people ahead of you. I was told that they sell around 120 birds in a single day and that's a lot.

Finally Got Our Orders

The Chicken Rice @ RM 5.50
The Chicken Rice set comes with a bowl of pepper soup. The Yellow Rice and Sweet Roasted Chicken was definitely heavenly. At a humble price of RM 5.50, this was definitely the best Malay style Chicken Rice that I have ever tried. Even the Executive Chefs at Hilton are not able to cook up to this taste for this dish. I can say that with conviction as I have tried a similar dish at Hilton recently. This dish scores a rating of 9.8/10   on my scale. The chicken itself was naturally sweetened and it was so tender and juicy. Even a simple soup like this was literally heavenly. I now realise how they are so popular and achieved great success with the business. And it is also great to know that the taste over the years is intact, despite the massive growth they have seen. The total bill for my dad and I today came to just RM 14.00 including the drinks. A highly recommended place. By the way, Garmis GPS does have this place noted in its maps for ease of find and that is how I located this restaurant in the first place.
