REVIEW: DCSG Harley Quinn
I'm not sure how much longer DC Superhero Girls is going to be around, but they did manage to squeak out one more new doll!
Harley Quinn recently appeared on Amazon for $9.99 and I got mine yesterday.
Here's the art from the back to emphasize just how off design the doll is.
She is a cute doll. Very cute. But she suffers from the same problem Catwoman does in that neither looks much like their animated counterpart.
If you're going to have a design that uses the white skin, then put the white skin on the doll. And why does her hair have to be sticking out? Make a doll that looks like the animation and another that looks like her out of her costume if you need to have a doll with freakin' blonde hair for some reason.
If you look at her just as a doll and not as representing the animation, then she's fine.
I like the basic costume and how they did the shoes.
Her hat was plastic stapled to her head, so that had to come off. It stays on decently well, but not perfect, of course.
She's on the tall skinny body.
She is cute though.
Like she'd even be cute redressed.
I'm not detaching the mask, so sliding it up will have to do.
She does have a hint of black smudge on her forehead, though I'm not sure if it's from the mask or the hat.
Now where's my Star Sapphire doll?

REVIEW: DC Superhero Girls Zatanna
AT.
LAST.
When I saw the designs for these dolls, I knew Zatanna would be one of my faves.
So what do they do?
Leave her til the very last one to release.
She was supposed to come out on the 18th, but squeaked out a little early.
I think she's a fun character. I have a feeling she might be my favorite. I've only watched the first episode of the show plus some of the shorts, but I just had this feeling I'd like her best and be annoyed if I watched the whole thing without having her doll. So I waited and now she's here and I can get back to watching. When I'm done with She-Ra.
There's also the bonus of her reminding me of some human form blend of Twilight Sparkle and Rarity.
Zee is not a small girl and I love that.
My one complaint about the doll is that her cape hangs really limply. It should have been fuller or made of a stiffer material to billow nicely.
She has the only heels of all the characters. The others all have flat boots or wedge heels. Yet Zee can still stand on her own, just like they can!
Not the prettiest face. That's Diana, then Katana. Not the cutest face. That's Babs. But I might like her face the best anyway. I just really like her, okay?
It took way too long to undress these eight dolls, but I did it for you guys, since I'm sure there's someone out there with body questions.
So there you have it. The entire DCSG line in their body diversity best.
Batgirl and Wonder Woman have the only unique bodies. Everyone else shares with another character.
Babs has the slim torso, slim arms and slim but also short legs. She's the only one with these legs.
Then Bumblebee and Catwoman share the same slim arms, wide-hipped torso and thicker legs.
Zatanna and Supergirl have the same thick legs as Bumblebee and Catwoman, but their torsos and arms are different. They have the muscular arms and muscular torso.
I honestly never thought Zee would be built like Kara!
Kara has the odd distinction of being the only fully nude doll. Which is odd, because Diana has painted undies and Kara should, too, but she doesn't.
The tall girls are next.
Green Lantern and Katana share a body. Slim arms, slim torso and slim TALL legs. Different than Batgirl's shorter ones.
Then Diana on the end there has the muscular arms and muscular torso paired with muscular tall legs that only she has.
I never expected to love these girls, but I do. I still think this reboot was unnecessary and I'm still mad we never got dolls of some of my favorite characters from the original series, but I do love these.

REVIEW: DC Superhero Girls Jessica Cruz
I placed my order for the DCSG basics way back in March and finally, they're all almost here. But not quite. Poor Zatanna, one of my most wanted, isn't coming until November. Why release Jessica alone and not Zatanna with her, I'll never know.
I also don't get why they don't call her Green Lantern. Probably some copyright thing, but the other girls all get their codenames on the boxes. Could have done like "Green Lantern Jessica Cruz" or something.
If you're after her, she is currently in stock on Amazon.
Art and blurb.
Out of the box. She has pretty nice hair for this line, which still isn't that great in the grand scheme of things, but it'll do for $9.99.
Mine's got a little black streak in her eye white, but it doesn't bother me. This isn't a line I'd get picky over unless it was actual paint loss.
I like the power effect on the ring.
And a shot of the taller girls together.
Now hurry up, Zatanna! She would have to be the fashionably late one.

REVIEW: DC Superhero Girls Catwoman
Before the entire team of heroes is even all out, villainous Catwoman makes her appearance at Walmart.
The doll is a Walmart exclusive and can be purchased online if you can't find her in stores. (I put up the link in a recent post.)
I ordered mine for pickup and she arrived today.
Her cost is $9.94.
I wish they'd gone with her animated look honestly. The hair sticking out is okay, but there's something super sleek about this art and I like it.
Also, the bracelets are an unnecessary addition. The cartoon design doesn't have them and they have such open gaps at the back that you need to keep them banded to her for them to stay on. She'd have been better without.
Fresh out of the box. I'm glad the mask stays on without being tied down.
Even though the color scheme and general design is completely off, she's still a neat-looking doll. I like her.
Her hair is dark blue and purple. Does she have hair in the show? One of these days, I'm going to watch all the episodes I've DVRed.
Her tail is attached to her belt and it moves around. I think they could have made it longer and thicker to look more like the show. Ditch the stupid bracelets (see the giant gaps?) and put that money toward a bigger tail.
And here she is with Bee. She's got a darker skintone, which is cool. I love variation.
I hope they make more villains! And get Zatanna and Green Lantern out already.

REVIEW: DC Superhero Girls Reboot Batgirl and Katana
Yay, more new arrivals from the DCSG reboot line!
These two were a bit unexpected, because while Bumblebee, Wonder Woman and Supergirl were trickling through shipping and arrival, these two characters both sat without an estimated release date for ages. Zatanna and Green Lantern always said July-August, but these two? Not even a guess.
So I was pleasantly surprised when they turned into July 3rd, then crept closer and closer each day. They arrived today and I'm very happy. Katana was actually the one whose release I was questioning a bit, since she wasn't part of the original line-up. Is she even on the show now? I don't know, because I still haven't caught up. I'm waiting to get all the dolls in hand first. I have a feeling I'm going to really like Zatanna and I don't want to watch the show, love her and then have no doll on hand.
So here are the backs of the boxes.
And we'll start with Batgirl. She's cute. I actually thought she was one of the cutest from the promos and she is. It still annoys me that her shoulder piece is that light purple and the mask isn't. They go together. They should both be the same color and in the cartoon, they're that lighter purple. And her cape? Also not black. It should be yellow. I'm not sure why they chose to force the two black elements in when purple and yellow would have been fine enough. It's weird.
Definitely a cute face! Her hair is just okay. It's perma-crinkled from wearing the mask, but I plan to leave that on, so I'm not going to bother working with her hair.
Mine has a misprinted bat on her suit. Ha. Kind of an important element, but no, let's misprint it.
Her cape is attached to the suit itself. Why did Kara get a plastic cape while Babs gets a proper fabric one? They could have sewn the red cape to Kara's outfit, too. Sigh.
Moving on to Katana.
This is the best design of the line for me, I think. I'll know for sure when I get the final two in hand.
But I love it. She's sleek. I always love black, red, white and silver. The outfit is pretty, the boots are cool.
I love how they did the mask, except I can't take it off. I don't think it will go back on right.
There's the mask from the side. I just don't think it's going to stay on if you cut those plastic tabs.
The bamboo (?) piece is separate from her wristband, which is nice, because I don't like it. It ruins the flow and color scheme of the design for me, so it's nice to be able to remove it and still have the pair of wristbands underneath.
See? Sleek.
And there's her pretty face. I still think Diana is the prettiest, but Katana's up there. I'd get a second one to display without her mask if I could.
Mine also has a new problem for Mattel dolls. Used to be eyes we needed to worry about, but now it's lips. Her lips are slightly off their mark and I've seen the same problem on people's Wild Hearts Crew dolls. So watch out for the lips, guys. Thankfully, it doesn't make her any less awesome to me.
So now we've got more bodies! Each girl does have a different headmold, which should be pretty obvious, but some share body parts. Let's break it down.
Torsos come in three types so far: muscular, petite and wide-hipped. Wonder Woman and Supergirl rightly have the muscular type, while Batgirl and Katana are petite. Bumblebee is the one with wide hips.
Arms are either muscular or petite. Wondy and Supergirl are muscular, the other three are petite.
And legs have four different variations! Bumblebee and Supergirl share the muscular, short legs, while Wondy has the muscular tall legs. Batgirl and Katana are both more thin-legged, but Batgirl's are shorter than Katana's.
So these girls may lack articulation, may not have the best hair or their outfits fully-printed, but hey, they've got cute designs and definitely are diverse. Hurry up, Zatanna and Green Lantern!

REVIEW: DC Superhero Girls Reboot Supergirl and Wonder Woman
All right, more reboot DCSG dolls! I don't care what anyone says, I like these.
Supergirl arrived yesterday, but I didn't see her until quite late, because I was a double. Wonder Woman arrived today when I was on day shift (I worked open-close-open...ugh). No sign of Batgirl, Green Lantern, Zatanna or Katana shipping yet. Odd that Batgirl isn't available yet.
So anyway, Kara seems to be the tough girl of the bunch and she looks it!
Back of the box.
I like how the art is them going from regular clothing into hero outfit.
The front part of her hair is very gelled. Most of these pics have the gel still in. I did wash it out, but you won't see the results until the group pics when we get down to Wonder Woman's review.
It's pretty sad that a doll with hair this short has better quality hair than Bumblebee, but she does.
She has a very unusual face that's not nearly as cute as Bumblebee's.
I think she looks cool.
The plastic cape not only curls so it hangs from her neck, it also has a peg to insert into her back to keep it steady.
And you can see the fabric fail. $10 isn't a high price, but it's not that low either. If Fashionistas can have nice clothes for less, Kara could have had a fully glittered skirt.
They had enough money to spend on her manufacture to actually make this look like a top and skirt instead of a one-piece dress. They could easily have done her skirt right.
Or just used the plain material for the entire thing, since glitter is probably not up this girl's alley.
Look at this awesome torso though! Muscular, flatter than usual doll chest, muscular arms.
This doll can kick your butt.
I had a full body shot, but it seems silly to post her like that twice, since I did a comparison pic of all three dolls.
Wonder Woman was in today's mail and SHE IS SO PRETTY.
I wasn't prepared for this. I knew I'd find these highly stylized looks cute, but pretty? There's just something very appealing about her. I think she might remind me of old Winx Club animation or something. Just her face.
Back of the box. I think the doll's prettier than her art.
GORGEOUS.
Naturally, I forgot to take a pic of her back. I'm so sleepy, y'all. It is almost naptime.
As you'd guess, the white star print is not on the back of the skirt. The top is all the same material though.
Three different characters, three different heights!
Bumblebee uses a shorter, squatter torso that's wide-hipped, but quite small above that. She also has thin arms and the shorter, thicker legs.
Both Supergirl and Wondy have the same muscular torso and arms. Supergirl has the same thicker legs as Bumblebee, but the torso makes her taller than Bee.
Wondy of course has the longer, thinner legs.
All together! I can't wait for the others.
Walmart is also apparently getting an exclusive of Catwoman,
I need to catch up on the show now!
PHOTO CREDITS: Mine for the most part. The Catwoman pic is from Mattel Shop.
