Calling all Runners

So I think I have decided to run the Salt Lake marathon in April. I know, I'm crazy, and I said I would never run a full marathon, but here I am! I am so nervous about it. It is going to be tough. I need as much advice as I can get on different tricks you use to keep you going. How do you get mentally strong? What do you use to hold your water? Which training program do you recommend? What do you eat during training and on race day? I feel like I can do so much better on my training as far as these things are concerned which I know that it will make a huge difference on race day. Any tips or suggestions would be very helpful! Thanks!

Yay!! I did that one two years ago. I recimmend Hal Higdon's program...I felt totally prepared. My advice..whatever you eat while training, eat on race day...same with the gels. I recommend gu, accelerade, or hammer gels. I have a belt to carry water...you are welcome to try it out to see you if like it.

Hi, I found your blog through Adhis. I ran the Salt Lake Marathon this past April. (It was not my favorite, but I live in Oregon, so the elevation was a factor!) Your first marathon is so exciting- just enjoy the ride. We have a little blog called marathonmommies.blogspot.com

Come over and meet some new friends. I am sure there will be others running this one. Can't wait to read about your journey.

My best advice is to use a Segway.

Wow! I know you'll do great! I wish I could offer some tips...

You just had a cameo appearance on my website. Nothing big, but you'll get a chuckle. AGAIN. Honestly, I still don't think he'll like it more. (This will make more sense after you read it.)

Reminds me - maybe Ben will have some marathon tips. I'll ask. Good luck!

Wish I had some advice for you. The only thing I can say is YOU GO GIRL! I wouldn't even know how to start to train for a jog around the block.

Heather, you are so sweet. Thank you so much for your sweet message! It did help me feel better and yes, I do have to realize that there is not anything I can do to make it better. I guess I have done the only thing I could have. And it took a lot for me to do that. You are so sweet and I appreciate your comment! Love ya

I am seriously impressed! A couple of my running buddies are considering doing a full marathon and I seriously have NO desire to jump on it. I'm having a hard enough time staying motivated to run for my half. But, you can definetley do it! The only tip I've learned is that I LOVE Goo! It's a great energy burst and light to carry when you run. But other than that...GOOD LUCK! Keep us all posted.
