Danbo Collections V

If you still didn’t hear about Danbo then you should know that Danbo is little cardboard internet celebrity who has became pretty popular in recent time. When you see such bizarre thing then you could think about that it is probably from Japan. Well, it is not so bizarre, we have seen worst things believe me. However Danbo remains popular on the Internet and various artists are making creations and photo-stories related to this little cardboard hero.

Danbo is shortened name from Danboard, it is a robotic sculpture made from cardboard. You will also notice that it has huge Amazon logo on its head. This little robot is a cardboard recreation of Danbo/Miura figurine. Here you can se a few of photos where different artists tried to tell us a story about the exciting life of Danbo. I think there is no need to explain that sparkling-butt Danbo image. It is enough to tell that this little sparkling-butt figure is created in Japan and that should be enough for everyone :)

Danbo Collections Part IV

Danbo first appeared in Chapter 28 of the manga Yotsuba&! by Kiyohiko Azuma, published in April 2006. In the issue, the main character Yotsuba Koiwai mistakes her friend Miura Hayasaka dressed up as a science project for a real robot. When Yotsuba asks the robot its name, Miura does not want to crush her friend’s dreams, naming the costume “Danbo,” a play on the Japanese word for corrugated cardboard, danboru. While the robot was originally named “Cardbo” in the first translation, when Yen Press re-published the manga, they chose “danbo” which senior editor JuYoun Lee thought sounded cuter.

Danbo Collections Part III

The name Danbo is a pun on the Japanese word for corrugated cardboard “danboru” (ダンボー). There’s also a company in Japan which makes cardboard boxes which has Danbooru in its name.
There have been a few variations on this name in the west, based on different translations from the original manga. If you’re looking around the Internet for Danbo-related things, she can be found under all of these:
  • Danbo
  • Danboard
  • Danboru
  • Danbooru
  • Cardbo

Danbo Collections Part II

This toy cardboard robot named Danbo was commissioned by Amazon Japan from Azuma Kiyohiko, the creator of the manga character Yotsuba-chan who lives with her adoptive work-at-home dad, and whose happy-go-lucky adventures are recounted in the popular serial, Yotsubato/Yotsuba

If either the original or Amazon versions of Danbo were actually made of cardboard instead of PVC vinyl, or were actually bigger than 13cm, I'd be kind of pissed that Amazon won't ship these things outside of Japan. But if I were a Yotsuba-loving dad, I'd just wait until Boxing Day and make a kid-sized one the old-fashioned way.

The name "Danbo" comes from Danboard.
It's a character from a series made in Japan

Danbo became very popular not only for fans of the series but also for photographers.
This little plastic robot (no, it's not made of paper) can show a lot of different expressions and it's posable. It has movable parts at the legs, arms and the head!

It's a wonderful model because it doesn't move at all!
