A gentle heart

Hello everyone,

and welcome to today's Creative Team post.

I have been playing with some more muted colours in the last few days. Maybe because I am sad that summer is over? Who knows. What I do know is that I thoroughly enjoyed my experimenting.
This art journal spread is an example of this experiment.

The base of this journal spread is a piece of Pattern paper from the Nature Walk series designed by DeeDee Catron. She is so very talented !

Here's how I did it:

I cut the 12 x 12 to size (I actually changed this later as I cut off the white from the left page. Later I decided I wanted the pattern of the splatters to continue...

Next I used some modelling paste through a piece of punchinelle (sequin waste) and dried it gently with my heat gun..

Next I thought it would be fun to use some gilding flakes. I usually avoid using them at all cost as they go everywhere... lol
I think the result was worth it though. I also inked the edges of the pages.

How fab is that ?

Another look...

Next I used some black embossing glitter to colour and coat the heart. It is not really a glitter, more a glint...

After did all that, I started stamping the background, of course I forgot to take more photos... All stamps I used are by VivaLasVegaStamps! (What else?) and I used different colours of Archival ink. The sentiment was stamped on the page directly but I messed up so I stamped it again on a piece of the same paper but turned around; I inked the edges and added some brads and then added it on top of the one I messed up. The flowers in the heart were a piece of ribbon that I was given. It was pink and I coloured it with inks to match the rest of the page.
I glued the pages in my journal and that was that ! I really like how it came out.

I used only one chipboard today:

Scribble Heart and you'll find it HERE

Thank you so much for stopping by today !

Mixed Media Demo -- June {A tag}

Good afternoon folks :)

If you've been following the blog for long you'll know that every first Sunday of the month I do a free mixed media demo locally in Las Vegas.

Today I'm sharing the tag we worked on last week!

Join us at The Crafting Place on Russel every first Sunday of the month from 1-3 for a FREE mixed media demo --- we'll explore new materials and techniques each time!

For June I chose to share some black gesso and Silks acrylic glazes!

The tag uses the gorgeous Sunflower stamp from Viva Las VegaStamps!, Star Confetti Chip from UmWowStudio, Black acrylic gesso, black Archival ink by Ranger, Twine and ribbon by May Arts, adhesives by Helmar, and various Silks Acrylic Glazes by Luminarte and Splash Of Color.

Basically the gesso has been applied as a "starry night" feel, and heated with a heat gun to get some extra texture. The stamp was stamped and embossed then "water colored" with the acrylic glazes. The stars and ribbon were adhered with Helmar adhesives as a final step.

Don't forget.. some of our tags may seem simple in comparison to others.. but we're sharing and experimenting with techniques and products!

Happy Birthday {A card by DeeDee}

Hey folks :) Just me today!

I thought I'd share with you a card I created for Paper Craft's Gallery Idol!

The open auditions were for Birthday cards for kids or teens. I thought this piece would totally appeal to a young lady :)

I used UmWowStudio star confetti, Happy Birthday by VLVS!, Carta Bella cardstock, plain white cardstock, an American Crafts pearl brad, ranger archival ink, three ribbons by May Arts, cheesecloth, Zap Dots and Fabric Glue by Helmar.

Earth Day Hops GOIN' GREEN!

Hello everyone!!

First of all.. Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

I'm joining in on TWO Blog Hops today -- it's Earth Day.. a day I hold pretty special.. it's always been close to my hippie little heart. So I couldn't say not to either of the hops that came up for me to participate in!! So I've joined the two in this one post and at the end you can just take your correct fork in the road!

The first is the May Arts Ribbonista hop!!
(You should be here via Emily's Blog)

And the 2nd is leslierahye's Earth Day hop!
(follow the inlinkz at the bottom of the post!)

And now... onto my project. As I said before, I'm a HUGE fan of Earth Day.. heck.. I KINDA like this place ;)

So today I've put together a tag featuring some gorgeous Sunflowers and a short message.

My tag is actually recycled from the cardboard insert of some Pink Paislee packaging out of the Chest Hope collection! I've also used a slip of paper, a sticker, and one of the paper pieces from that collection.
I've used the Black Burlap String and the Ivory Scallop Satin from May Arts
The stamp is the brand new Sunflowers from Viva Las VegaStamps!
I made the Sunflower on the bottom out of muslin and Distress Stain, the center is Amazing Mold Putty's quick cast resin and Tattered Angels' Glimmer Glaze.
The Make Note Polaroid is from us here at UmWowStudio
I used adhesive from Helmar USA
I stamped in Archival black by Ranger, used Mustard Seed, Broken China and Rusty hinge distress stains, Walnut stain distress ink, a MS punch, and a Mustard Seed distress marker.

The fantastic Ribbon Lady from May Arts is giving away this beautiful set of ribbons to one lucky duck who comments along the blog hop!

And I'll be giving away this fabulous Floral Set of chip to some OTHER lucky duck who is commenting on my blog today :)

thanks so much for taking the time to stop today!! If you're here via May Arts please move along to Charlene's Blog!
If you're here via the LR hop follow the links below! :)

Prima Life Journal!

I'm so super thrilled and honored to be a part of one of the Prima Life Journals!

Prima has sent out a few Mixed Media journals to various artists, they've been decorated and are now being passed around among crafters who are each being asked to fill a page!

The journal I have the pleasure of adding a page to originated with Frank Garcia who passed it to Chrissy Colon, who has now given it to me :)

I finished my page a couple evenings ago and now have it to share with you!

The image of my planner is blurry on purpose, so you can't read my business ;)

The stamp is from Viva Las VegaStamps!.
The punchinella stencil and washi tape are from Gauche Alchemy.
Canvas tape, flowers, vine, butterfly, leaves, paper and bling are all from Prima.
Distress ink in walnut stain and archival ink in black from Ranger.
Glimmer mist from Tattered Angels.
Punch by Marhta Stewart.
Brad by My Mind's Eye.

I chose to my page about list making, because I am FOREVER making lists, crossing things off... adding things I've already done JUST to cross them off :)

Thanks for looking - wait till you see who it's going to next :D

A Spoooooky floral spray!

Today I'm combining two blog hops! DUN DUN DUN!!!

So at the end be sure to pick which hop you're on and continue along the way :) My project today is a handmade floral spray. Making floral sprays is a pretty fun experience, but I'm always at a loss at the end of them on how anybody could ever make money doing it!! They're hard work and really take a toll on your hands.. all the twisting and pulling, the gripping and yada yada huh?

Anyways! Here's my spoooooky floral spray:

Originally I sculpted the bats in Creative Paperclay®. To guarantee I'd always get the same shape I then molded them with Amazing Mold Putty and filled the molds four or five times with more Creative Paperclay®. They're painted with acrylic paint.

The leaves are stamped with the script section of the Tree Writing Collage from VLVS! in black archival ink. They're distressed with Walnut Stain distress ink.

Other supplies used include wire, glue and black floral tape.

Now choose your blog hop!!

If you're here for the Viva Las VegaStamps! Blog Hop use this list!: -
