ABC - Q

New ABC week. And Q is the challenge.

Same object in both English and Norwegian beginning with the letter Q

Difficult?

Yes, it was very difficult.

There are only 3 words in a Norwegian Dictionary that begins with the letter Q.

(Ok, in professions there are more. Among others in Movie and TV productions: To give a Que - a signal to begin or stop something)

Besides only two of them, in the Dictionary) have equal meanings in both Languages.

Since I do not have a proper photo of me dancing Quickstep - Quickstep, I have to choose the last one.

A word and a name that allmost all Norwegians really regrets has it's origin from Peaceful Norway:

Quisling

First about the Letter Q:

Ok, I will show you some photos from Vidkun Quislings residence. (I was born not far away ) and I'll tell you something more (Quisling was executed in 1945) . So fasten your seatbelts. He name it Gimle. (no)

When I was young, just after World War II, the Traitor's or Quisling's (ggrrrrr - his name has become a synonymous for a Traitor) residence was used as a home for elderly people that needed healt care. Every May 17, Norways National Day, the local school parade stopped in the back yard and played (The School Brass Band) and all we kids shoutet Hurra-hurra-hurra (Hurray).

What a change - from the Traitors home to a good Home for elderly people that needed care and daily treatmeant. (I'm really sorry that I'm not able to present a Photo - Black and White) from that time - I do have, but not here in the Summerhome)

We boys, did discover a "secret" Cellar, and our Fantasies were scary: What's inside? Nazies still living? Killed people? Bombs and Granates? I remember we could have Nightmares only thinking about it.

What happend afterwards?
It was transformed to The Norwegian National Education Center for the Midwifes.

(Let me be honest - many of the local young men were very interested regarding the Students - LOL)

PS. I do suspect the Letter Q will be a Challenge most difficult for most Norwegian ABC participants. But I say:It's OK with a Q-Milk -haha.

Next week, the challenge will be the opposite: R. When talking about ABC-R. Easy, but the other challenge is:

The Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach

After several more or less joyful posts from the bright side of life during my visit to my daughter in Miami Beach, I think it’s about time to post something serious. Something we shall never forget – unfortunately such crimes still happens. When shall we ever learn?

After our Lunch at Books and Books, we biked another route back to the Appartement on Saturday November 10.

Suddenly I observed this sculpture:

I had no idea what is was nor what it symbolized.

After all, it was in a beautiful and silent setting.

Ingelin biked further to the end of the Arcade. I followed. And remarked all the names written on the Wall. Hmm, a feeling stroked me. All the names seemed to be Jewish. Click to see.

When I approach Ingelin, she told me where we were. We parked the Bikes and went further in silence.

Through the Tunnel, I observed sculptures that reminded me of those seen from outside.

Inside, it was a vast number of sculptures. People in the deepest despair. Young, old, mothers, fathers, babies, children, whole families, old ones, young ones. Sculptured by Kenneth Treister, FAIA, in the late 1980’ies in Mexico City. And more names, thousands upon thousands written on the Wall. Click to SEE.

Why? Why? How could this happen? Could todays Pop-stars mislead the youngsters? Political and Religious leaders, can they mislead and mistreat in search for short time power?

Some facts about The Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach:
“In the fall of 1984, a small group of Holocaust survivors formed a committee dedicated to building a permanent memorial to the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.” Read more

We left the memorial in silence. It is not easy to find words. Cause it has happened again. “Cleaning” some call it. Cambodia, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia/Eritrea, Rwuanda, Balkan etc etc.

After the Memorial we found Peace and Silence in the Japanese Garden.
