From Tor.com:
"It is with profound regret that we confirm that David Hartwell,
award-winning editor and anthologist, and a vital part of Tor for over
three decades, has passed away. He was a warm, familiar, prolific, and
iconic presence in science fiction fandom and publishing, beginning his
career in 1971 as a consulting SF editor for Signet, co-founding The New York Review of Science Fiction
in 1988, editing thousands of books and dozens of anthologies over the
years. He was nominated for the Hugo Award forty-one times, winning the
awards for Best Professional Editor in 2006 and Best Editor Long Form in
2008 and 2009, as well as editing Nebula and Hugo Award-winning novels."
In addition to his SF contributions Hartwell edited two enormous horror
anthologies, The Dark Descent (1987) and Foundations of Fear (1992).
