Parisienne culture

Paris delivered us with yet another beautiful day, whilst it is still pretty cool, the weather has been sunny, with clear skies.

Regardless today we headed indoors to the Musee de Orsay. The Musee de Orsay was once a railway station, it is now the second largest art gallery in Paris and contains the largest collection of impressionist paintings and many many beautiful paintings, sculptures and furniture.

The view through the old clock, if you zoom the photo a little, you can see the Sacre Couer atop Montmatre 

Monets " Luncheon on the grass" the painting  is split in two, The story goes that money did not have enough money to pay the rent, so he gave it to his landlord as security until he had the money. The painting was stored in a cellar by Monets landlord and when Monet retrieved it, it had been severely damaged by mould. Monet himself cut the painting into three pieces. The whereabouts of the third peice is unknown.

Van Gogh's "starry night above the Rhone" is just stunning in real life. To be so up close to the painting and see the brush strokes and how he created the effects was just amazing. The phot would never do the painting justice.

To complete our day of culture we attended a concert in Sainte Chapelle. We heard 3 pieces which included vivaldi's four seasons and canon d in major. It was amazing, I kept wondering how on earth these artists could create something so beautiful and to perform it in such in such a stunning chapel, just a Devine experience. One I will remember for a lifetime.

We completed the evening with a bit of a walk along the Seine. I am  starting to feel the little tug of sadness that my time in Pariis coming to an end.

But as Dr Seuss says 

"Don't cry because it's over, 

Smile because it happened"

And I have so many beautiful memories and so many more beautiful places to see, before I head home
