Nerdy DW tote bag for Jacey, and my undying love for Matt Smith

Jacey King (the girl whose farewell I went to today) is a Doctor Who fan, and I knew she needed a nerdy tote bag in her life. I'm not sure if this bag will be okay to use on her mission, but since it's not explicitly branded in any way, maybe it will be fine. If you haven't watched the show, the words don't mean much, but if you do, you automatically know that "Allons-y!" is a catchphrase of the 10th Doctor and "Geronimo!" is a catchphrase of the 11th.

I've been super busy lately and didn't get around to making this till late last night. It's a little on the sloppy side but oh, well. Jaycee was thrilled and her friends were jealous, so that's all that matters.

Speaking of the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith has left the show and regenerated a month ago ON CHRISTMAS. (Darn you, BBC!!). I cried, although it wasn't nearly as devastating as when David Tennant regenerated in his last episode. In fact, I still don't think I'm over that.

But Matt did what I (and several million other people) never thought he could do. He was able to take over the show from the most popular Doctor in history and be amazing and brilliant and I ended up loving him just as well as I did David.

Stephen Moffat, the show's writer, described Matt as, "lovely--he's a magnificent, brand new, hilarious, heartbreaking, heroic Doctor" and I think that sums him up perfectly.

 Amy and Rory

I wasn't a huge fan of his main companion Amy Pond (I thought "The Amy Pond Show" was pretty much what she turned it into) but I loved Rory, LOVED River Song and Clara.

River Song and the Doctor

 Clara and the Doctor

(PS. That pirate would be Hugh Boneville, a.k.a. Lord Grantham from Downton Abbey)

Matt's on Broadway now doing American Psycho the musical (quite the departure) and I wish him all the best, even though I wish he'd stuck around DW for another year or two. He's largely responsible for the popularity the show has had in the United States and this new generation of fans. Thank you Matt!!! ♥♥♥

PS. I hit 1,000 followers for my I ♥♥ Doctor Who Pinterest board a couple of weeks ago. (It's up to 1,076 today.) YAY FOR FUN TIME WASTERS!!! It keeps me sane and brings me happiness, so there.

Important Nerdy Happenings

By now, you should know that things like this keep me going in life.

See the date on that poster?? 23 November 2013. THAT IS IN TWO DAYS. This is a huge episode because it marks the 50 year anniversary from the very first episode of Doctor Who. It will be broadcast simultaneously in 80 different countries!

Madelyn has had it marked on our calendar for months.

The TARDIS stationed at Buckingham Palace....

The royals threw a DW party (four of the Doctors were in attendance).  I am beside myself with excitement. The Day of the Doctor going to have my two favorite Doctors on screen together! And Rose! (And you find out what really happened during the Time War, and who John Hurt's Doctor is, etc.) Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

We may or may not be traveling a few hundred miles to be with my sister Megan for the event. She has cable and we don't, and therefore we are going. (To be fair, we had been wanting to go up and see her anyway, and go to IKEA, etc. Just happened to fall on that day.)

Here is a trailer!

Also, there's only three weeks left till the second Hobbit movie comes out. (*Squeeeeeeee*) It has been a long year waiting for it. I am currently rereading the book and even though I already know what's going to happen, it is going to be so much more exciting fleshed out in movie form. I don't even have a problem with the changes Peter Jackson has made.

A summation of the plot:
We get to meet the elvenking Thranduil (on top--Legolas' father), Thorin puts his sassy pants back on, Gandalf goes in search of the Necromancer and Bilbo saves the dwarves' behinds over and over again. Plus there will be the dragon Smaug (motion capture acting and voice done by Benedict Cumberbatch) and Bard the Bowman and Beorn and giant spiders and IT WILL JUST BE EPIC. Advance tickets are now on sale. I sincerely wish we lived somewhere where we could see it in IMAX.

And lastly, this week USPS released a set of Harry Potter stamps! I went to the post office yesterday and asked for some, and the lady looked at me like I was crazy. She'd "never heard of there being any Harry Potter stamps....maybe next year...." and I told her they had been released on Tuesday and she still didn't believe me. (Inwardly screaming)
Anyway, they ARE real, and you can buy them here from usps.com.

Have a great weekend.

Meg's graduation, and what happens when David Tennant crashes your party

My baby sister Megan graduated from high school yesterday! Crazy!

It was about as exciting as you think it would be....

Luke does this during church when we're singing hymns, not just during high school orchestra performances. Ha!!

 There she is!

Walking through the "H" (for Hurricane High). My dad took this picture.

Meg and her best friend Veronica Martinez after receiving their diplomas (zoomed in from like 150 feet away)

Congrats, Class of 2013! I was in the Class of 1999. That seems like it was last century, it was so long ago. (I am so funny today)

Meg and Veronica, non blurry. They are going to be roommates in college!

Veronica drew the tiger on the front of the program. Very impressive!

My sis-in-law Monica with our niece Nora. We probably should have gotten a picture with the whole group that was there....

We're so proud of our Meg!

I think my mom and Meg both heaved a big sigh of relief. Meg had a lot of AP classes and a tough dance schedule this year. Not to mention heart surgery.

Oh yes....I made a TARDIS graduation cap decoration for her, and she came up with the Time Vortex glitter swirlys. She had several Doctor Who fans come out of the woodwork to compliment her on the awesomeness of it. She tells me she was the most well known nerd in school. Makes me so proud. :)

Speaking of Doctor Who, look at the graduation present I got for Meg!!!

Yes, this is an actual autographed card signed by David Tennant. You know....

a.k.a. Barty Crouch Junior (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Hamlet, Casanova....

I saw a link on Pinterest for this:

"Purchase a brand new, personally signed card by David Tennant (International Delivery)   Proceeds from the sales of this card will go to Headway Essex (David is their Patron). Headway works with people with traumatic brain injuries and their families/carers. David worked closely with Headway Essex when researching for his character Alan Hamilton in ‘Recovery’. There are other signed  DT goodies on the Headway website too."

*SQUEEEE*

So of course I ordered a card. The other items are not signed--t-shirts, a pillowcase and tote bags. Click here for a link to check them out. I paid  £23.92 ($36.90), but it's all going to charity. And hello. It's Ten!! (He's known as Ten in our fandom)

Meg and I are in the 5th stage of the David Tennant fandom.
Stage 1: Curiosity (he is all over Pinterest, eventually you have to see what the fuss is about)
Stage 2: Fall wildly in love with his character, the 10th Doctor
Stage 3: Obsession
Stage 4: Devastation

At this stage, you feel as though you will never love again.

Stage 5: Continued fond devotion, occasional tears, and extreme excitement over the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, which he'll be in with the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith.

If you think I'm exaggerating any of this, then you are sadly mistaken.

Do you know the movie The Holiday? It's one of my favorites, with Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black. At a couple points during the movie, Kate Winslet's character Iris is so overcome with excitement that she jumps around and screams like a lunatic, and I've always thought, "Pfff. NOBODY does that in real life." Well, when I opened that package with the card in it, I literally was jumping around the kitchen, squealing and giving myself high fives. It's real, folks.

ANYWAY..........

We went to Pirate Cove Pizza afterward to celebrate in St. George.

It is quite the restaurant!! Huge and piratey and like you're in a dark jungle. Of course the kids loved it. The food was good, too. Tyler and Monica are friends with the new owners, and they came out and gave the kids free tokens to the arcade.

Luke was a little overwhelmed by all the buttons and levers and flashing lights. Mark was an arcade junkie as a kid and was excited to show him around.

"Let me teach you the ways of the Force..." or something like that. Shooting zombies.

Then came the moment I'd waited months for. Mark and my sister Maria were the only ones that knew about the David Tennant card, so we were giggling and grinning at each other, which made Meg a little suspicious before she opened it.

She freaked out when she saw the front of the card, and then her jaw DROPPED when she opened it. It was awesome!!!! We're trying to figure out how to make a shrine out of it. Haha.

I'm getting Sister of the Year award, I think.

I was trying to get a picture of Luke spinning around on his stomach on the floor, but just then some loud, piratey music started up and startled him. For some reason, wherever we go in public, he has to be all over the floor. Drives me nuts!!!

Anyway, it was a good day spent with family (we celebrated my dad's and sister Maria's birthdays, too) and we had fun!
