Synopsis:

There are always two sides to every story . . .

His whole life, Jonah Whitecomb has strove to meet everyone’s expectations of him: the perfect student, dutiful son, loyal twin, accomplished surfer, and powerful Magical. But behind his carefully composed façade hides the truth of how his family has fallen apart, leaving Jonah more often than not feeling adrift. To complicate matters, he fell in love long ago with a girl in his dreams, one he’s never told anyone about, including his twin brother.

Just when life seems its bleakest, Jonah discovers that Chloe is real. Wanting to finally reach out and grab happiness for himself, he embarks on a journey to track down the girl of his dreams, only to find that happy endings aren’t always guaranteed, the best laid out plans can go horribly awry, and sometimes, you have to simply let yourself go along for the ride.

* Beyond Fate is Jonah’s point-of-view of the events of A Matter of Fate, and is a companion novella.

I remember Joey telling me once that, of all the big waves he’s ever ridden in his life, the one that got his blood pumping most was Mavericks. “It’s sick,” he said as we waxed our boards at one of his favorite breaks near his house in Australia. “Cold as all hell. Gotta be careful of the Boneyard nearby. There’s a reason they call it that, you know. The reef below loves nothing more than to welcome you to stay forever. But,” his easy grin slid out, “when conditions are right, and you can take off in the hollow and traverse the long wall before finishing in white water, your life flashes before your eyes. You’re flying through hell like a slingshot, only to come out in paradise.”
Obviously, it made me want to surf Mavericks so bad I could taste it.
When Kel and I first got to California, we’d wanted to come here together. Ride these waves in Joey’s honor. But that never happened.
He’s with Chloe right now, after yet another attack during which she walled both him and me inside a building and took off toward San Francisco in an effort to lead what we now know as Elders away. I know why she did it. I felt it the moment her resolutions within hardened—she believed she was protecting the people she loved. In a weird way, I was incredibly proud of her for it, even as I tore my hair out, trying to get the hell out of the tomb she sealed us in so I could get out there and protect her myself. Karl and I searched for her for hours . . .
And then she decided to gut me once more by calling my brother to go and get her.
So here I am, in the back of a boat, tugging the hood of my wetsuit over my head in the pursuit of some kind of nirvana high amidst the hell I’ve found myself in lately. Raul Mesaverde’s questioning my sanity for wanting to go out into the monster waves we’re heading toward, but I do my best to ignore my temporarily assigned Guard. We’re accompanied by one of Joey’s Wave colleagues, who’s come along upon Astrid’s insistence. I tried to assure her I knew what I was doing, but considering she pretty much had an anxiety attack after researching Mavericks and learning people have died here, I figured this was the lesser of two evils.
“You’re loco,” Raul yells at me over the boat’s engine.
I laugh. This? Coming from a Cyclone? Especially one who agreed to chauffeur Chloe on her crazy attempt to lure the Elders away?
The Wave we’re with turns away from the wheel and smiles. He’s crazy, too—because he’s got that same look in his eyes that Joey always had. Like the ocean is his temple. “Nah, bra,” he tells Raul. “Maverick’s all about enlightenment.”
Raul white knuckles the side of the boat. I completely tune him out and let myself slide into that place Joey taught me about so long ago.
“When you let yourself go,” he’d told me as we’d sat out beyond the breaks, “when you put yourself out there and really just let yourself go, knowing any second you could be swallowed whole by the ocean, you’ll realize that all of that shit you worry so much about—girls, school, parents, grades, work, responsibilities—they’re meaningless. Because it’s just you and the waves. They don’t give a rat’s ass what kind of day you’re having. They don’t care if you’ve just bagged the hottest girl in the worlds or if your dad thinks you’ve failed him. They’re gonna rise up and fall no matter what. Let yourself go along that ride, J. There’s worry enough for later.”
This is what I’m thinking as I’m waiting for my set to come.
When it does, I paddle hard. Anticipation and fear is just as strong on my tongue as the salt water surrounding me. I let my worries go.
            This one’s for you, Joey.

I gladly fling myself into oblivion.

- R-Rated Excerpt -

We’re one, linked by our desire. I guide his shaft to my empty entrance, moan into his throat as he pushes inside me, stretching me tight. He’s so damn large, his cock as massive as the rest of him, and, if I hadn’t taken him last night, I’d be concerned.

But this is our second fuck and I’m fearless, lifting my hips, speeding the long, slow glide of rigid shaft into warm, wet pussy. In Hawke’s brilliant blue eyes I see a reflection of my own wonder, my own joy. This experience is as unique for him as it is for me, energy flowing from his body to mine and back again, a continuous loop growing stronger and stronger.

Finally, my pussy lips touch the curls at his base. “Fuck,” he mutters, this one word encompassing my feelings. “You’re perfect, love.”

When I’m with him, I am perfect and I belong, my curves meshing with his muscle, my smaller body fitting into his larger physique. Hawke pulls back and surges forward and I gasp, gripping his shoulders, a ripple of pleasure flowing over me.

He retreats and advances, retreats and advances, his rhythm constant and too controlled for my liking. I want him to be as wild for me as I am for him. Wrapping my legs around his waist, I kick my heels into his clenched ass cheeks.

Hawke jerks, growls words I can’t decipher, and pushes back, taking me harder, deeper. I laugh, exhilarated by his reaction, and rise up to meet him, clenching my inner walls around his shaft, shredding his restraint even more. His lips flatten into a determined white line as we battle for dominance, driving each other insane with desire.

Sweat beads on our skin, slicking our bodies and darkening Hawke’s tattoos, making us one. I pant, he grunts, and the bed rocks, the sounds of our lust echoing in my ears, exciting me.

As he thrusts into me, I lick his chin, his stubble scraping my tongue, the salt of his efforts filling my mouth. He shudders, his shaft swelling inside me, his balls hugging his body, and the pulse of need within me grows, a tempo I can’t ignore.

“Hawke.” I dig my fingernails into his shoulders, trying to delay my release.

“No . . . curtains,” he huffs, his hot breath blowing over my cheeks. His biceps bulge as he braces himself above me. His chest flattens my breasts. “Watching . . . us.”

He knows what to say to drive me wild.

When do you let go of love? When your loved one has sex with another person? Moves in with her/him? Marries your rival? Has a baby with her/him? At what point do you say ‘I have to let him/her go, move on, allow this love to fade?’

Sinful Rewards is a love triangle. Bee, an exhibitionist heroine, is torn between a billionaire with a dark secret and a bad boy biker.

In Sinful Rewards 7, Bee has sex with one of these hunky men. Does this mean she won’t find happiness with the other hero?

If you asked me this at the end of that story, I would have said ‘Yes, she’s chosen her man. There’s no going back. She’s fully committed.’ While writing Sinful Rewards 8, I began to have doubts.

The man Bee didn’t have sex with won’t let her go. He pursues her, tells her that what she did last night is history, forgotten. They can start again, save their relationship. He hasn’t reached the point where he’ll walk away from her.

Bee is aware of this. She knows that door hasn’t been closed, permanently locked. Yes, she believes she has made her choice but, in the back of her mind, she realizes both of the men continue to be options. She can change her decision.

I’ve only been in love with one man, my dear wonderful hubby. If he hadn’t loved me back, had begun dating another person (ouch), I might have let him go but I doubt I would have ever gotten over him. I would have always had hope that he’d come back to me. (This is all a guess. I don’t know how I truly would have reacted. Maybe I would have turned stalker on him. Who knows?)

When I was in ‘like’ with the previous guys I dated, I walked away from them when they started dating someone new. That was my line in the sand. I didn’t want to interfere with their relationships with these other women, to be the reason it didn’t work out between them. I waited for a few men, knowing the women were all wrong for them and their relationships wouldn’t last, but I didn’t try to speed the process or otherwise mess with their relationships.

Have you ever let go of love? At what point did you walk away, deciding it wasn’t meant to be?

Some girls dreamed of knights in shining armor. Cynthia Sax dreamed of dragons, magnificent flying dragons. Being a bloodthirsty little thing, Cynthia usually dreamed of these dragons eating the damsels in distress. Now, she dreams of them doing... ahhh... more pleasurable things. Cynthia is happily married. Although her hubby has not yet shown any shapeshifting abilities, he does buy her medieval princess costumes to wear around the house. Cynthia's rather traditional mother-in-law now always calls before visiting.

The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won't so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It's not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness. And there's only one person who can give that to him...

IN HER WAKE
by K.A. Tucker

That’s how I spot her.
There’s no doubt that it’s her; I’ve memorized her face.
Leaning against a wall on the opposite side, her lips wrapped around a clear bottle filled with clear liquor, her fiery red hair a wild mane against the stark white wall, a tight black T-shirt showing off toned arms. She’s in no rush to part with that bottle, guzzling back a good portion before she hands it off to someone, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.
Her eyes at half-mast.
She’s wasted.
My heart starts racing. What the hell is Kacey Cleary doing here? By my calculation, she’s probably finishing her last year of high school, having lost at least half a year while recovering.
I tug my cap down even farther, though I doubt she can see two feet in front of her.
Shit. What if she does recognize me? How would she react? Does she know my real name? What I look like? I can’t say for sure that my face wasn’t printed in a newspaper somewhere. She could have Googled my name and found a dozen game shots with me in them. I have my helmet on in most of them, but you can find a profile picture of me easily enough if you’re looking.
I don’t know that she was, though. I wonder if Kacey Cleary gives a fuck about anything anymore. Her Facebook account is inactive. She hasn’t posted a single word and the well-wishes have dwindled, as everyone moves on.
I do know that she shouldn’t be at a party in this state. I’ve heard of bad things happening when girls get that drunk. Especially when they don’t care.
But what do I do?
A blonde stumbles into my chest with two beers in hand. “Hey, do you go here? What’s your name?” She’s tipping her head back way farther than necessary to look up at me, telling me she’s trying to flirt but is too drunk to do it right.
I smile down at her anyway. She’s a good cover. I can stand right here and watch Kacey. “I’m Trent, and I used to go here.”
“Really? When’d you graduate?”
From the corner of my eye, I see Kacey shift from the wall and begin climbing the stairs, her arm hooked around the railing to help her. Two guys following her.
