Synopsis:

When Amelia Collins moves to a new town to escape her dark past, she just wants to keep her head down and finish her senior year.

Her plans change drastically when she runs- literally- into the school's hottest badass and number one person on the 'don't mess with' list, Aiden Parker.

Amelia needs to find a way to survive senior year while she tries not to fall for the annoyingly handsome Aiden, or his mischievous, cocky player of a best friend, Mason.

With new friends, fun pranks, bitchy queen bees, old rivalries, and a haunting past, Amelia's senior year is destined to be filled with some drama.

Can you briefly describe SHE’S WITH ME and its characters?

She’s With Me is a young adult novel full of romance, suspense, drama, and excitement. It follows Amelia, the fierce female lead, and her experience as the new girl in school. She just wants to keep a low profile, but that plan is ruined on the first day when she crashes into the school’s most notorious senior, Aiden Parker. She’s drawn into a new group of friends as well as all the drama that comes with being on Aiden’s radar, all the while trying to keep her secrets from being revealed, or risk losing it all.

Who would you say is your favourite character from the story and why?

I love all of my characters, even the villains, but I think my favourite character is Noah. He’s the goofy, lovable character who often serves as the comedic relief. Since there’s so many tense moments throughout the story, he plays such an important role. Plus he makes me laugh and is so fun to write!

How did the story occur to you? Did you find inspiration anywhere?

When I started writing I really didn’t have a clear direction. I only had a vague idea of what the major conflict would be and a general sense of how I wanted to portray my main character, Amelia. The only thing I knew for sure, was that I wanted to write a dynamic story that could pull readers out of their everyday lives into a wild and drama filled high school fantasy. As I wrote and my characters began to come to life and their personalities became more layered with dimension, I realized that I was writing a character who inspired me. I was creating Amelia to be more like the girl I wish I was in high school; a girl who was confident and strong and refuses to let people walk all over her, even when the stakes are extremely high.

There are aspects of the She’s With Me plot that have been pulled from my personal life and the lives of my friends, but it’s definitely more elevated than the real life events. I really wanted to envision a crazy world where these dramatic events and scenarios existed through the eyes of someone as determined, confident and tenacious as Amelia.

If you could choose one song to describe your book, which one would it be?

This is a hard question, but I think one of my all-time favourite songs can work to describe “She’s With Me”, which is “Sippin’ on Fire” by Florida Georgia Line. Obviously it doesn’t fit perfectly, but if you bend the meaning a bit I think it’s great.

“Why should we go round and round the truth, Like we been doin'? Every time we lie girl we're losing…”

This describes how Amelia is trying to hide not only her own secrets from everyone, but she’s also trying to convince herself not to fall for Aiden because of those secrets, which ends up hurting her in the long run.

“You act like you don't know what you're missing, Every time you end up back with him, 'Cause it's safe, and you're scared. Of everything you're feeling when, we’re burning the midnight down again,”

This line relates to how Amelia can sometimes deny how she feels and retreats to what she knows is safe, which is keeping to herself, but of course there’s always this push and pull because she can’t seem to stay away from Aiden.

If your book was going to be made into a movie, who would play your characters?

It’s hard to pick an actor for Aiden, since I’ve always just pictured him as an imaginary being in my head. But when I started writing “She’s With Me”, I always imagined Holland Roden as Amelia, and more recently Maddison Brown, who I feel would play a great Amelia.

What drink and place do you think will go with your book to have a perfect book date?

I think any cozy, quiet place where you can binge this book undisturbed is an ideal spot, maybe with either a warm tea or a light, yummy milkshake.

Can you recommend your readers any other books in case they are left hungry for more once they finish SHE’S WITH ME?

One of my all-time favourite books is Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick. I think readers craving more She’s With Me would love this book since they both have high levels of romance, suspense, and excitement.

What would you say is the most difficult part of writing a book?

The hardest part of writing a book for me is just finishing it. I’m a terrible planner. I find the process of outlining and planning difficult because most of the time my ideas come to me in the moment and I don’t always have a clear idea of how it will all be wrapped up in the end. So for me, sitting down and figuring out where the characters and the plot will end up is the hardest part, but once I have that down and push past writers block, it all works out.

What’s next for you?

I’m going to continue working on stories I love and creating memorable characters and storylines… and hopefully some exciting announcements in the new year!

Synopsis:

"Saved!" meets To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy that takes a meaningful look at consent and what it means to give it.

When CeCe’s born-again ex-boyfriend dumps her after they have sex, she follows him to Jesus camp in order to win him back. Problem: She knows nothing about Jesus. But her best friend Paul does. He accompanies CeCe to camp, and the plan—God’s or CeCe’s—goes immediately awry when her ex shows up with a new girlfriend, a True Believer at that.

Scrambling to save face, CeCe ropes Paul into faking a relationship. But as deceptions stack up, she questions whether her ex is really the nice guy he seemed. And what about her strange new feelings for Paul—is this love, lust, or an illusion born of heartbreak? To figure it out, she’ll have to confront the reasons she chased her ex to camp in the first place, including the truth about the night she lost her virginity.

Can you briefly describe HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME and the characters?

HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME is about a girl named CeCe who comes up with a plan to win back her born-again ex by pretending to be a Christian. With the help of her BFF, Paul, she enrols in a Christian summer camp, despite knowing nothing about it. When her ex shows up to camp with a new girlfriend, CeCe ropes Paul into faking a relationship to save face, and ends up confronting all the reasons why she chased her ex to camp in the first place.

Who would you say is your favourite character from the story and why?

I would have to say my favorite character is my main character, CeCe. She has a lot of heart, and makes a lot of mistakes, but she’s also incredibly vulnerable and open to viewing herself through an honest lens. She confronts a lot of things I wish I’d been brave enough to tackle as a teen, and she has one of the most rewarding character arcs I’ve ever written.

How did the story occur to you? Did you find inspiration anywhere?

I tend to spend most Decembers elbow deep in cake and Hallmark movies, and one thing that always stuck out to me in these ‘wholesome’ Hallmark movies was how much girl-hate they have going on. The ex is always the evil roadblock on the path to ‘true love’, and I really wanted to flip that outdated notion on its head. I wanted to write a story where girls are supportive of each other, where they can share their fears and their hopes with each other without judgement, where they can lean on each other when things get hard. Girls who are like the ones I know in real life. This story became my love letter to female friendship.

If you could choose one song to describe your book, which one would it be?

Is it too on-the-nose to pick HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME by John Hiatt? I’m going to pick it anyway, the lyrics fit well with the romance.

If your book was going to be made into a movie, who would play your characters?

I’ve always pictured CeCe to look a bit like Joey King and I think Noah Centineo would be the perfect Paul.

Summer is still here and we love to go out and enjoy the sun. What drink and place do you think will go with your book to have a perfect book date?

HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME is very much a beach read, and since it’s set at a summer camp, next to a bonfire would also be ideal. To be enjoyed with a tall glass of homemade lemonade.

Can you recommend your readers any other books in case they are left hungry for more once they finish HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME?

What’s next for you?

My next book, still untitled, will be coming out in Fall 2020 with Page Street! It’s about a YouTuber named Macy Evans who is doxed after the woman sitting behind her at a baseball game tweets about her supposed romance with a boy she stumbled into, vaulting her into a whirlwind fake relationship and driving a wedge between her and the quiet, small-town boy she really likes.

Interview with Chelsea Bobulski for Remember Me

Remember Me

by Chelsea Bobulski
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Release Date: August 6th 2019
Genre: Young Adult, Horror
 photo addtogoodreadssmall_zpsa2a6cf28.png photo B6096376-6C81-4465-8935-CE890C777EB9-1855-000001A1E900B890_zps5affbed6.jpg

Synopsis:

In this eerie and suspenseful YA, a teen girl discovers what connects her to the hotel she calls home as horrifying visions lead her to the truth.

Nell Martin is moving again, this time to the Winslow Grand Hotel, built in 1878. As Nell is settling in, strange things begin to happen. Doors lock of their own accord, writing appears on bathroom walls--and most horrifying of all--visions of a dead boy permeate her waking life. Thinking it was her mind playing tricks on her, she soon finds the past and the present colliding as she learns horrific details of a murder that happened at the hotel in 1905 involving a girl named Lea.

Nell and a mysterious bellboy must relive that day in hopes of finally breaking a curse that imprisons them both. And Nell discovers what truly links her to the history of the Winslow Grand Hotel.

Can you briefly describe REMEMBER ME and the characters?

Definitely! Remember Me is a young adult novel that can best be described as the horror of The Shining meets the romance of Titanic, told from two different points of view, Lea Sargent in 1907, and Nell Martin in 2019, as both girls arrive at the Winslow Grand Hotel to spend the summer. Lea arrives engaged to a man she doesn’t love in the hopes of securing her family’s financial future. Nell arrives with her father, the new guest relations manager, and quickly finds there’s more to the hotel’s past—and her personal connection to it—than meets the eye. As the past bleeds into the present, Nell finds herself haunted by an evil spirit in the hotel, and the only way out is to right a past wrong.

Remember Me centers on three of my favorite things to write about—curses, star-crossed lovers, and vengeful ghosts—and I couldn’t love it more.

Who would you say is your favourite character from the story and why?

It’s extremely hard to choose, but if I had to, I would say Lea. She is duty-and-honor-bound to follow a specific path that has been laid out for her. Her parents and her brother are counting on her to follow through with a marriage to a man she doesn’t love, but it’s more than that. They’re also asking her to give up any other potential future she might have had, and she’s willing to do it for their sake, no matter the cost to her, until she meets someone who makes her realize her true worth. I think most people can relate to that: fighting the ideas that people have about who you are and who you should be so that you can find out that truth for yourself, and then find the strength to follow through once you do, even if it means going against other people’s ideas for you, or going against the labels and limitations they’ve put on you.

How did the story occur to you? Did you find inspiration anywhere?

The idea came to me on a trip to San Diego with my mom in April 2015. At that time, I’d been out of college for 5 years, which also means I’d been pursuing traditional publication for 5 years, with 5 different books. I kept getting very close to landing that extremely elusive debut book deal, but it kept slipping through my fingers, and along the way, I lost my confidence. Not only was I seriously doubting whether or not I would ever be a published author (and trying to figure out what to do with my life now that I’d wasted the first five years of my twenties), but my husband and I had also been trying to get pregnant for over a year to no avail. Receiving rejection letters and negative pregnancy tests one on top of the other, combined with some other difficult circumstances and upheavals that had been simultaneously occurring in my husband’s and my families, sent me into a terrible depression. The two things I’d wanted to be for so long—an author and a mother—seemed like they were never going to happen, which is a very scary and debilitating thing to face when you’ve spent the past five years building your life around those two things.

And then my mom and I found ourselves at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, which ended up being the inspiration for the Winslow Grand Hotel. For the first time in a long time, I was in a place where I felt the stories of past lives vibrating from its very walls, and I wanted to tell those stories. Then, while standing on the beach, my toes in the sand and the waves crashing around me, I felt God very specifically tell me to hold on just a little longer, to keep the faith that I would see all of my dreams come true. And then He filled me with a peace and a certainty I’d never felt before.

Six weeks after visiting San Diego, I had my first book deal (The Wood, which released in 2017), and by the time Remember Me was ready to send out to editors, I was pregnant with my daughter (completely naturally after nearly two years of trying to conceive)! Now, Remember Me, my second book, is releasing five days before I’m due with our second child. To say that God answered my prayers is an understatement. I could not be more thankful for all of the ways that He has blessed me.

If you could choose one song to describe your book, which one would it be?

“Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift.

If your book was going to be made into a movie, who would play your characters?

I mean, I think every YA author out there right now could see Noah Centineo as their book’s love interest, so it might be a bit cliché at this point but I’m going to say it anyway (Titanic-era Leonardo Dicaprio would also work). Unfortunately I can’t talk too much about my female leads without giving something away, so for now I’ll just let the readers decide who should play them.

Summer is here and we love to go out and enjoy the sun. What drink and place do you think will go with your book to have a perfect book date?

Since many of its scenes are set on the beach, I would definitely say that Remember Me is the perfect beach book (paired with your favorite beachy-drink), but the haunting atmosphere also makes this book perfect for a coffee shop date, especially as the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change.

Can you recommend your readers any other books in case they are left hungry for more once they finish REMEMBER ME?

As a general rule, I always recommend Victoria/V.E. Schwab, Maggie Stiefvater, Marissa Meyer, and Cassandra Clare to everyone I meet. The Diviners by Libba Bray also meets that perfect historical horror vibe. I would also definitely recommend Stephanie Perkins’ lighter books, particularly Anna and the French Kiss, if you are craving another romance, as well as her horror/thriller, There’s Someone Inside Your House, if you’re leaning more that way. Gretchen McNeil is another great YA author to go to for all of your horror needs. If you’re craving more of the historical aspects of Remember Me, I would definitely check out Anna Godbersen’s The Luxe series

And, of course, you can never go wrong with Stephen King.

What’s next for you?

I have a few projects in the works, although unfortunately none that I can discuss openly at this time. I am also awaiting the birth of our second child, so I am very excited to see what our new normal looks like once our little guy is here!
