I need something lighter...

I wonder if my new little girl will look like this one? Can I get another kid with as much spunk as she has? And if I do, can I handle it?

I'm getting excited to see the new baby. Now if we could just come up with a name...

Tough Decisions...

Proposition 8 is turning into an ugly battle. Opponents of it steal, rip, and destroy our signs. Their ads are EVERYWHERE! It is disheartening to hear words like tolerance and loving our neighbor, when we are being labeled bigots and other things.

The California Teacher's Association recently donated $1 million to the opposition. This is frustrating to me...here we are fighting so hard to keep this OUT of our schools, and this extremely powerful union gave money to help it walk through the front door. Ugh.

Here's the tough part. I got an email asking us to keep our kids out of school in protest to their donation on Monday, October 27. The school gets about $33 or so per kid per day...so if enough of us did it, we could make the schools lose the $1 million they gave. We are also supposed to call and tell the school why our child is absent that day.

This area is SO liberal, and the elementary school if full of people who oppose this proposition. Do I take my kids out in protest of something I feel so strongly about? Is this particular action worthwhile, or just damaging to my little kids?

I don't know what to do. Brian and I will talk more, and I will probably still not know what to do. I want the election to be over...but will any of this really end?

I don't think so.

UPDATE!

Thanks, Lorie, for making the decision for me. The Yes on 8 has asked us to keep our kids in school, and just continue the fight on election day. Sounds good.

Although, skipping school sure sounded fun as well. :)

A fun tag...

I got tagged by Julie (am I the only Holly you know? Maybe it wasn't me...:)). This is how it works. Post the 4th picture from the 4th folder. This is mine.
Samantha's first soccer game, when she was 5 years old. Man, she has grown up A LOT!

Now I tag...Nicole, Jaime, Lyndsey, Amanda and Jordan. C'mon, it's super fast and fun. :)

A few nice words

I am ever aware of my flaws and faults. I think all of us are. Unfortunately, many of my shortcomings are very obvious to other people (friends, family, whoever). I wish they were more discreet, but they seem to fit with my personality.

It was during one of these days when I was feeling especially bad that Brian had a few nice words for me. Such little words, but they have had such an incredible impact on me.

He said, "I didn't marry you in spite of those characteristics, I married you because of them."

How I love that man. Little words, and they have made all the difference.

Our legacy of faith

Tonight I went to a really good meeting about Proposition 8. During the meeting, someone outside started yelling "you should be ashamed of yourselves!"

This is not an easy fight. In our little community, we are VASTLY outnumbered and courage is sometimes hard to find. All the same, I have been really surprised how apathetic some people are about it...other members of the church, even.

This proposition is a big deal, wherever you live. It is a BIG DEAL. This is my plea...do whatever you can to help this pass. Pray, donate money, make phone calls, walk, or help those who are asking for help. It is our duty, no matter how hard it is.

As I was walking home from the meeting, this song popped into my head:

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
’Tis not so, all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward,
If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take;
Our God will never us forsake,
And soon we’ll have this tale to tell,
All is well! All is well!
Now is the time to act. What are we waiting for? Dig deep, muster up your faith and courage, and do what the Prophet asked us to do.
I will.

First crush

Despite my best efforts, Landon prefers his hair to be combed down...a nice, conservative look. Remember how excited I was last year when he actually let me spike it up? He looked so cute. Anyway, he reverted back to the old school 'do right after. Sigh.

Much to my surprise, last week for picture day, Landon requested that I make his hair spiky. I obliged. That was on Thursday. Every school day since then, Landon's hair has been spiky, at his request. This morning I found out why.

In the midst of our gel and hair spray routine, he told me that HIS TEACHER (a young, beautiful woman) really liked his hair spiky. And there it is. My little boy's first crush.
