Le menu

Ate here at Les Bonnes Soeurs twice when
I was in Paris last November.  Had a hearty
salad both times, and one night our waiter treated
us to the Nutella mousse.  It's a friendly place
in the Marais, with good food and an
adorable young waitstaff.

Thursday Challenge — "food"

For this one, I was going to show a shot of the
cicchetti at my favorite wine bar in Venice—but
then I thought why not go where they go to get the
ingredients for their inventive snacks: the fabulous
Rialto Market. When you shop here the vendor picks your
produce for you, but not to worry—every piece of fruit,
fennel bulb, bean, tomato, and zucchini is pure perfection.

thursday Challenge — "food"

I have dozens of pix of food: raw, cooked, fancy, plain.
There are fruits and veggies from markets around the world,
ditto restaurant meals from 3-star to diner.  Too hard to choose!
But I realized that a lot of the very best things I've ever
eaten were that good because the chef didn't skimp on . . . butter!
So I've chosen this essential ingredient—accept no substitutes
(and get the good stuff for your own cooking).

abc wednesday - P is for "picnic"

Here's how we do it when we're in Venice:
First, it helps if you're staying in a hotel with a
beautiful garden (in this case, the
Accademia). Then, you go to the Rialto
Market in the morning and get the things that
appeal—we chose tomatoes, pears,
apricots, grapes, bread, cheese, prosciutto,
and wine—all super fresh.  This is living!

—or play yourself— here.]

Thursday Photo Challenge: "Food"

They were in a tank, in a food store in Chinatown.

But I always thought of these fish as
strictly ornamental.  I'm confused.

abc wednesday - Z is for "zucchini blossoms"

These were for sale at the Mercato Centrale,
in Florence. Some people like them stuffed with
rice or ricotta cheese. I prefer them on
their own, dipped in a light batter, fried, then
sprinkled with a tiny bit of sugar.
How about you?

real food

So you go to the market (which we did in Venice,
because we had an apartment with a great kitchen)
and buy fresh fish (I ask them to fillet it)
or chicken (I ask them to take the head off --!!)

and maybe zucchini blossoms (fabulous fried in a light
batter,
then sprinkled with just a tiny bit of sugar).

Wash it all down with Prosecco and follow
it up with fresh fruit—perfection!
