This impressive escalator is in the Madeleine metro station, in Paris. [To see more b/w photos, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

ABC Wednesday—V is for "violinist"
There's something about this young musician that's special. I've seen him a few times playing with a group in the Paris metro. Saw the group sans him the last time I was there, so maybe that means he got a dress-up gig. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

Where to?
I don't recall what metro stop this is, but I felt like I had stepped back in time when I saw the signs at either end. Hardly any stations have these now, but I remember them from 50 (!) years ago. [Linking back to Weekend Reflections (however subtle) and to The Weekend in Black and White.] |

Odéon metro station
Question for the NYC Transit Authority: If a Paris metro station can be this clean and colorful, why can't any of ours? [To see more ABC Wednesday posts with the letter O, go here. To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

ladies on the metro
I liked the expression on these ladies' faces just as much as I liked the ones on the people in the ad above them. So I tried to be sneaky with my phone in the Budapest metro—however, I don't think I fooled the woman on the right. [It's Pink Saturday. To see more, visit Beverly's meme.] |

a spot of color
I'm a big fan of the Paris metro, but not of the ugly plastic chairs they've installed (and which I tend to ignore no matter how tired my little dogs are). But I have to admit that—as pretty as that big poster is—they are the real reason I took this shot. [Linking back to Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.] |

Thursday Challenge—"musical"
Last time I was in Paris, I came across these talented young people in the Metro—twice. This time, they were playing Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" with violins, cellos, and violas. I thought the kid in the blue sweater was adorable, and he was clearly the "concertmaster" of this group. [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, visit Dale's meme.] |

The Weekend in Black and White
Coming from St. Germain and headed for the Bastille—changing trains at the indoor/outdoor Gare d'Austerlitz station. (Tonight I finally saw the Charles Marville exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: all b/w—of course—and absolutely awesome.) [To see more monochromes, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

grand escalier
Looking at the outside of the Cité metro station, with its original Hector Guimard Art Deco entranceway, you'd never think that the interior looks like this. I've never used an elevator in the metro, but you can see why I might be tempted to here. [It's Ruby Tuesday; to see more, go here. For more of Our World Tuesday, go here.] |

Dans le Metro
Yesterday, I showed you a fairly over-the-top version of NYC subway advertising. Here's a more low-key Paris version—although most of the ads in the Metro are huge (and some are racier than anything you'll find here). This guy could slap one of these posters up in no time flat. Weekend Reflections
Light from the many globes at the Cité metro station is reflected all around the white-tiled walls and ceiling (and white stone platform too.) [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

abc wednesday — J is for "journey"
Guess where I'm headed tonight. Ah, oui! Going with my girls, my camera, and whatever fits in a carry-on—for a long weekend in our favorite city. May be more off-than-online while we're there, but hope my blogpals will stop by anyway. [And you can see more abc wednesday here.] |
