Fright Film Friday: Trick or Treat (1986)

We saved the best for last. What better film to watch on Devil's Night then the VHS mainstay Trick or Treat (1986).

8-Bit Zombie Presents Horrorible Heads.

What, another product review? Have I sold out? Well, when did I ever sell in? I'm a sucker for all manner of Halloween related goodies and if that means singing the praises of every company that puts out awesome designs then so be it. Call me a sell out. 8-Bit Zombie is an hell of an outlet and it's creator, Ross Dewey, is a hell of a guy. His most recent Halloween line was full of awesome designs and while I would love to go through each of  them there is one particular item that I would like to focus on: Horrible Heads.

The Electric Zombie Halloween Special

Just in time for Halloween comes the Electric Zombie Fall release.  I know that I've talked about Electric Zombie in the past quite a bit, tending to shower heaps of praise to its designs and designer, but the brand just really knows what it is doing. Recently the EZ head, Kyle Crawford, made the decision to sharpen his vision and focus the fashion and art company as an outlet for  80's/90's nostalgia which this Fall release line really shows. Ranging from influences like Are You Afraid of the Dark? to Franken Berry, this release is Halloween encapsulated.

On which we panic beacuse Halloween is one week away...

Evey Halloween blogger knows one true fear. It keeps them up at night. It makes their palms sweat and nauseous to their stomach. It could even cause them to abandoned writing anything all together. This fear is simple...

"I ran out of time."

Gremlins Playing Cards from Albino Dragons

Albino Dragon funded the deck through Kickstarter, bringing them to my attention. You’d be hard pressed to find new Gremlins merchandise outside of the occasional figure, so I backed this immediately.

Fright Film Friday: Hell Night (1981)

We dig deep in the budget bin and pull out another cult classic on VHS. This one starring Linda Blair. No, not Savage Streets (dammit, why didn't we do Savage Streets?), it's Hell Night (1981)

Fright Film Friday: Neon Maniacs (1986)

Greetings creeps and...creepettes? Whatever, welcome to October and welcome to Free Film Friday. For those who have never joined us for FFF this is the (sporadic) weekly feature where we watch a hidden gem from a unnamed streaming source and enjoying the fruits of copyright infringement.

For October we decided to showcase some spooky films that were stables on VHS and had various degrees of watch-ability. Together with Countdown to Halloween, this is...

Free The Real Ghostbusters Friday: Episode 11 "Citizen Ghost'

Free The Real Ghostbusters Friday is where we showcase episodes from The Real Ghostbusters, the animated 'Ghostbusters' series that ran for six season. For many born after 1984 this may very well have been the first exposure to Ghostbusters. The show proved successful and lead the way for a marketing machine that held youth domain over the show's run. You couldn't turn around without seeing toys to toothpaste with the RGB insignia. We will choose episodes that help reflect the best of the series and explain how it affected us. Today's curator is M.E. Strange for Episode 11 from season one titled "Citizen Ghost":

I choose "Citizen Ghost" for the first "FRGBF" because I feel it best encapsulates
the series, or at least season one. Unlike the first episode, "Ghosts R Us", this episode
picks up straight from the first Ghostbusters film and ties the entire series together. It feels
like this was planned to be the pilot for the series but wasn't aired for some reason.
This episode was written by J. Michael Straczynski, famed Sci-Fi TV writer who worked not only as a writer for the first season of RGB but also as the head story editor. This is one of J. Michael's better scripts for the show before leaving due to all the changes consultants wanted after the success of season one.

Countdown to Halloween: Horror Hangers

(All photos featured in this article, minus the "Body Bag" art, is owned by Trevor Henderson)

I've been a huge fan of Trevor Henderson ever since I first became aware of his art through the Kickstarter funded art zine "Puffed Shoggoths". This was a collection of H.P. Lovecraft pieces by various artists edited by Henderson and showed his passion for the material. He's also created many loving tributes to other horror characters and films.

Countdown to Halloween Teaser Trailer Tuesday: Halloween III : Season of the Witch (1982)

Being that today is officially the first day of fall I knew that only one film could be featured for our teaser today.

Uh, not exactly. While 'Halloween' is one of the essential films of autumn it wasn't big on teaser trailers. It was a low-budget film and probably didn't have the budget (or prospect) that normally calls for a teaser trailer. Instead I want to focus on the teaser for a film that had a rather large prospect: Halloween III Season of the Witch (1982).

CultSig!/Horrible Horrors present Horror Movie Mashups: JAWS vs Jason a.k.a. JVJ

Recently Zac Romero of Horrible Horrors asked for people to combine two different films to make "Movie Mashups".
https://www.youtube.com/user/HorribleHorrorsNew

As usual I've decided to take it one step further and challenge Zac to HORROR MOVIE MASHUPS.

For my first HMM I present JAWS vs Jason a.k.a. JVJ

I've got a lot of things to do today, why this will be in two parts, but before I head out I wanted to take a moment and discuss Halloween decorating.

The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders

Saturday Night Live has become hit or miss for me in the last couple years. Now, with the departure of the Lonely Island guys and the dwindling regularity of memorable digital shorts, I only look forward to one recurring sketch at this point:

Then last Saturday SNL produced what I feel is the most orginal and sharp digital short they have made in years. I presented here now, in tribute to our own Marc. C's birthday, the newest name in horror (watch and then I'll meet up with you below):

"This is the Crypt Jam..."

Oh Mondo. I've never been in an tumultuous relationship but I'd imagine it is similar to the relationship I have with the uber-popular print maker. It continues to infuriate me, making me rant and rave to no end, yet I keep on coming back.

I guess I just can't quit you Mondo.

I of course do not mean to belittle anyone
who has been in an abusive relationship
and in no way say they are parallel.

Stay safe out there.

Why I bring this up is because  of the limited edition vinyl Mondo will be releasing soon in accordance to thier upcoming gallery show "It Didn't Rot Our Brains".

Wait, who was claiming it did? Was it your mother? Tell her to go straight to hell!

Garbage Flesh Eaters

With Halloween fast approaching I thought I'd take a moment and think fondly back to a time when everything gross, slimy, and disgusting was up for grabs.
I'm of course talking about the 80s and the 90s.
Yes, that simpler time when every toy company and television station knew what the children of the world wanted and what they wanted was filth. I of course mean filth in the finest way possible. Sick was in and we ate it up. We had Gak, Slime, Madballs, Boglins, My Pet Monster, Supernaturals, Dr. Dreadful, MAD Scientist Playsets, and the Inhumanoids. The list could go on for another ten pages but let's skip to what were here to discuss, the king of the creepy crop: Garbage Pail Kids.
Hidden like illegal substances and traded like...well...illegal substances, this was our dark secret from our parents. To go into a review of what these cards represented is pointless as so many, including Branded in the 80s, have done so already.Instead I want to talk about a perfect marragie between childhood memories and adulthood horrors. Introducing...
