Tom Hiddleston had to ‘age backward’ for The Hollow Crown

It's not every actor who can portray the same Shakespearean character in two different ways. But British thespian Tom Hiddleston can. He plays the shallow Prince Hal in two of the Bard's "king" plays that have been airing on PBS' Great Performances series The Hollow Crown.

But on Friday he becomes the besieged King of England — Henry V — and finds himself charged with the battle of a lifetime, the fate of a nation in his hands.

No small task for the actor most Americans remember as the evil villain Loki in both Thor and The Avengers.

"Prince Hal is an archetype of what, I think, possibly every young man goes through," says Hiddleston at a press gathering here.

"To test his limits and push boundaries and reject the authority of his father and live in a way that he was not supposed to and has been discouraged from doing. And (he) slowly goes on a journey of accepting responsibility and embracing his inheritance. And I think that rings true of so many great characters in all drama and all history ... you see a young man growing up," he says.

At the beginning Prince Hal seems a rebel without a cause. "He starts out rebellious, drunk, mischievous, wayward and youthful. And then he becomes the greatest warrior king that England has ever had," says Hiddleston.

"And I think there is a through-line and the reason he becomes such a great warrior and is such a great king is probably because of the experience he had as a young man, in my mind."

Because of production schedules, they filmed the four plays in reverse. Henry V, airing Friday, is chronologically the last, but was the first to be shot. Hiddleston had to "age backward" for the part.

On his very first day of filming he was forced to grasp the gravity of young Henry's situation poised on the battlefield facing the French at impossible odds. That's where the famous speech: "Once more into the breach ..." is delivered.

Hiddleston explains, "When Henry V is besieging a French castle, they're on a military mission, and his men make a breach, a hole in the castle wall. But it isn't complete. And then the French army comes tearing out of this hole in the castle, and the English run away. And Henry's response is 'Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; or close the wall up with our English dead.' And it becomes the most extraordinary motivational speech that's better than any locker-room speech you've ever heard in any movie about American football," he says.

Henry continues to rally his troops, says Hiddleston. "He says, 'In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility; but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger. Stiffen the sinews.' And he's basically saying, 'Unleash the beast.'

"And I think it doesn't matter whether you're English or American or Brazilian or Japanese, I think that sentiment of courage and a collective kind of steeling yourself to overcome an insurmountable obstacle is something that connects to anyone on this planet if they have a beating heart. And that's why I think these plays are so extraordinary. And that's why it was my privilege to make them on film."

Hiddleston first heard of Shakespeare from his English teacher when he was 10 years old.

"He just made us learn stuff. We didn't understand it. That was our homework was to go away and learn great passages of Macbeth and Much Ado about Nothing and Hamlet. And it was only later that I realized that, somewhere deep in the recesses of my kind of early brain, I have all this stuff which has started to make sense."

His first Shakespearean role was in the fairly obscure Timon of Athens. Hiddleston was 14 years old and played Timon's 65-year-old manservant with a gray wig, gray beard and a pocket watch. Though he's 32, he has never forgotten those lines.

But it was seeing production of Twelfth Night that convinced him Shakespeare was accessible even to an adolescent boy.

"It was the most beautiful, rich, dazzling, hilarious, touching production. And that's when I think I began to understand that Shakespeare must be spoken as a contemporary language. It cannot be speechified. It cannot. There's no point in making it operatic ... we've all inherited an English language which really comes from Shakespeare. And when you speak it like you're making it up, it's so shockingly, it's so shockingly modern, it so speaks to you. And I love that." ´

Jimmy Fallon To Replace Jay Leno As 'Tonight Show' Host In 2014?

via glooce

Somewhere Conan O’Brien is probably smiling. There’s word that NBC brass are ruminating over Jay Leno’s future — which would involve finally giving their current late-late guy comic, Jimmy Fallon, the coveted job as the host of "The Tonight Show."

The latest rumblings about Leno come from various talent agents who admit they have quietly been contacted by NBC officials hoping to find a new late-late host who will eventually take over Fallon’s 12:35 a.m. time slot.

Leno’s current $15 million a year deal expires in 2014, and came about after he “volunteered” to take a 50% pay cut earlier this year, a move that helped NBC slash "The Tonight Show’s" $100 million budget by about 20%.

But my money is on how NBC brass are betting it’s high time they cash in on a generational shift toward younger viewers that has been going on in late-night television for some time.

ABC will be the first to capitalize on the shift next month when their own late-late guy, Jimmy Kimmel, moves his show to 11:35 p.m., switching places with “Nightline” in a bid to boost the network’s percentage of viewers between the ages of 18 and 49 — a group prized by advertisers.

It doesn’t hurt at all that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is an entertainment program headed by a star 20 years younger than his new time slot rivals, Letterman and Leno.

Meanwhile, at CBS, Leno’s nemesis, David Letterman, is also under contract until 2014, and there has been a long unsaid understanding throughout the TV industry that Leno won’t step down until Dave does.

Of course, as these rumblings may prove, Jay could always be pushed — but he’s proven over the years that he’s harder to kill than Dracula.

Take the September 2009 fiasco when then-NBC chief Jeff Zucker carved out a 10 p.m. time slot for "The Jay Leno Show” because Jay reportedly insisted that he didn’t want to leave the network.

Up until that moment, there had been a long-planned transition in the works for Leno to step down from “Tonight” and pass the torch to O’Brien.

But Jay didn’t go away.

Instead his prime-time show turned out to be a flop, and worse, it shifted the spotlight away from O’Brien’s debut and cannibalized “Tonight Show" viewers.

By January, Leno was back on "The Tonight Show" and O’Brien was out of a job — although he was paid millions to leave the network — eventually landing another late-night talk show on TBS.

Maybe this time Leno will just quietly go away.

I’m betting he won’t.

'Downton Abbey' star Rob James-Collier 'wants US TV role'

via glooce

"I know Damian Lewis just won an Emmy... so I'm working hard on my own American accent," James-Collier revealed. "I think I'll nail it very soon." [lol he's obviously just being tongue in cheek here, just fyi ONTD]

He added: "There's definitely a wave of Brits doing great work on American television, and I wouldn't mind being one of them! I signed with Billy Lazarus at UTA [United Talent Agency] and hope to be auditioning here when we're not shooting."

Downton star Jessica Brown Findlay recently departed the hit period drama and has since been linked to a leading role in action movie sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Downton Abbey will return to ITV1 this Christmas for a festive special, with a full fourth series to follow in 2013.

It was recently reported that Dan Stevens - Matthew Crawley on the series - would be written out in the series four premiere, though ITV is yet to officially confirm the actor's exit.

"Two And A Half" Star Angus T. Jones Finds God, And bad-mouths his own

via glooce

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
"Two and a Half Men" might have another full problem on its hands.

No indication has been given whether or not the tenth, and current season of the series (its second under Ashton Kutcher) will indeed be the series last, but it seems unlikely the series could survive the latest controversy.

A new video has made its way to the web through Reddit, in which "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones rants about his new-found religion to website “Forerunner Chronicles,” and urges people not to watch the long-running CBS series.

The videos don’t appear to be a hoax, and feature Jones praising his spiritual adviser, who expresses his belief in apparent hip-hop conspiracies, before circling around to "Two and a Half Men" itself:

If you watch ‘Two and a Half Men,’ please stop watching ‘Two and a Half Men.’ I’m on ‘Two and a Half Men,’ and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it, and filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch.

It’s bad news…a lot of people don’t like to think about how deceptive the enemy is. He’s been doing this a long longer than any of us have been around. There’s no playing around when it comes to eternity.

Neither CBS nor Jones’ ‘Men’ co-stars have offered any kind of response to the videos, and Jones doesn’t specify his plans to leave the series, but we’ll keep an eye on the story as it develops. You’ve been warned, but you can check out Angus T. Jones’ video proclamations below.

Skip to 7:30 to hear his rant:

Glooce has an advise to Angus.Well First You should quit the show then all the money you make from this horrible show ..give it all out to charity..Hypocrisy is better served in a restaurant of 3 Michelin stars.

Kevin Clash, Elmo Puppeteer, Resigns aka fired by PBS

    via glooce

Kevin Clash, the longtime voice and puppeteer behind Sesame Street’s Elmo character, has resigned in the aftermath of allegations — which Sesame Workshop had previously said were unfounded — that he had an underage sexual relationship.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sesame Workshop said:

Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential. Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.
Mr. Clash has played Elmo on “Sesame Street” for decades. He was profiled in a documentary last year, “Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey.”

The sexual accusations were made public last Monday, then later recanted by a 24-year-old man who has remained anonymous. The episode led to Mr. Clash coming out as a gay man, something he had not previously discussed in public. “I have never been ashamed of this or tried to hide it, but felt it was a personal and private matter,” he said in the statement last week.

Production of “Sesame Street” was unaffected by Mr. Clash’s leave of absence and presumably will not be affected by his resignation, either. Mr. Clash had been helping to identify other puppeteers who could play Elmo for some time, and they filled in for him while he was away from work, a Sesame Workshop executive said last week.

I'm disgusted by all of this, tbh. Your thoughts?

PBS had to fired him because of the show he was representing. When Someone is fired in Television..They always use the resign excuse.

Jorge Garcia talks ‘Once Upon a Time’ role, reveals that the Giant will return

    via glooce

In the Once Upon a Time episode “Tallahassee,” Garcia will be guest starring as the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, reuniting with the Lost writing duo Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

Speaking to HitFix about the role, Garcia reveals that Kitsis and Horowitz were always the “keepers” of the Hurley storylines on Lost, and says that his coming to Once Upon a Time has been a long time in the making. “I wasn’t available last year because I was working on another show, but they pitched the giant story this year and they gave me a little bit of background about his origin,” Garcia explains (and we’d love to know what character they originally wanted him to play!).

He also reveals that he will be returning to the show for more episodes, although he doesn’t say whether it’ll be in flashbacks or in the current timeline. He does say that his backstory, “will be something to do in a later story.”

As for when he’ll return, nothing is certain, but, “they’re looking to bring me back in about a month, so they’re putting a pin in me for that. As to how much they want to use me as the whole storyline continues, it depends how the storylines progress.”

Lost fans shouldn’t be expecting the giant to be like Hurley, though. We’ve seen from the promo that he will be very angry and mean, and as Garcia says, “let’s just say the giant isn’t a giant Hurley. It’s a different angle, but it’s cool with me.”

He has also spoken to a number of different outlets about the role, including Yahoo!, where he reveals that the Once Upon a Time giant is “very different” to other versions of the character. “They always like to take something you have preconceived notions of and skew them into a different direction, and this is no different than that,” Garcia explains.

    via glooce

Olympic gold medal boxer Luke Campbell has signed up for "Dancing On Ice" – and will go up against fellow London 2012 star Beth Tweddle.

TV Biz revealed earlier this month that bronze-winning gymnast Beth had signed up to the show – but she will now have competition from within Team GB.

A show insider told us: “Bosses are determined to get the best line-up they can for this year’s show and hope some double Olympic magic will boost ratings.

“Luke was one of the hunks of this year’s Games and producers hope he will bring in a whole new audience.”

Gay former rugby player Gareth Thomas and comic Joe Pasquale have also joined for the new series, which launches on ITV1 in January.

Emblem 3 causing headache for X Factor producers...

      via glooce

The cocky guys from "X Factor" who make up the band Emblem3 were partying their faces off in Los Angeles last week ... so much so that the hotel they're staying in threatened to kick them out.

Emblem3 -- who made their name on "X" singing original songs -- is made up of three guys, ages 15 to 19. We're told the boys threw a massive party in their hotel room this week partying, which included other "X" finalists.

According to our sources, it got so loud that hotel guests complained and called security ... who then shut down the party, and threatened to kick the boys out.

We're told "X" producers -- who are footing the bill for all the contestants -- had to swoop in and save the day, by begging the hotel to let them stay.

A source close to the show tells us, "All the partying Emblem3 is doing is distracting the other contestants and they've been warned to behave."

      via Glooce

It's official: Sean Lowe is starring in the upcoming season of The Bachelor, ABC tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The Dallas businessman and entrepreneur won the hearts of fans across the country as he wooed North Carolina single mom Emily Maynard on The Bachelorette last season, landing in the final three. Maynard sent Lowe, the second runner-up, home as she'd fallen head over heels for Utah entrepreneur Jef Holm, accepting his marriage proposal.

"I was standing at that rose ceremony thinking I was going to marry her," Lowe told PEOPLE last July of the heartbreaking moment when Maynard sent him home.

Tuesday's announcement comes after months of speculation, with casting rumors ranging from former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky's ex-fiancé Roberto Martinez to Olympian Ryan Lochte.

On the possibility of being the next Bachelor, Lowe told PEOPLE at the time, "I'm an open-minded optimist, and I believe the process can work. If I found my wife, it would be worth it."

Production is already underway for the 17th season of the reality dating show, which will begin airing in January 2013. For more information on the contestants this season, visit ABC.com.
