When I lived in Hawaii, I loved the Kalua Pork they served at all the luau's we went to. I learned how to make it while I was living there, and this is truly, one of my favorite recipes, ever. It's so simple to make and everyone loves it. It feeds my large family for 2 nights and lunches in between ! When I serve this for company, it's almost embarrassing how many compliments I get !
You can serve this so many ways. On a plate, with Carolina BBQ sauce to dip in, or on a bun, or my personal favorite, served in corn tortillas that I grill on my stove top !
Here's what you need:
1 5-6 lb. Boston Butt Pork Roast * (I got this on sale for 6.99)
2 TBS. Hawaiian Sea Salt (or Kosher Salt)
2 TBS. Liquid Smoke
1 1/2 C. water
Rub the pork roast with salt.
Place in deep roasting pan.
Mix the water and liquid smoke, and pour in the roasting pan.
Seal pan tightly with foil.
Bake at 350 for 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
Test the pork - it will shred easily and pull away from the bone.
Let the meat cool down for 1/2 hour at room temp.
Take the meat out of the liquid (reserve the liquid!) and shred with 2 forks.
Remove any visable fat.
Pour enough of the reserved liquid back in the meat to moisten.
This pork can be cooked a day ahead and reheated in a low oven.
1 C. apple cider vinegar
1 C. ketchup
2 TBS. brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dried crushed red pepper
Stir all ing. in bowl until sugar and salt dissolve. Can be prepared 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.

Looks totally delicious!
Oooooooh! I've got to make this as soon as I can get the pork. I've got everything else in the pantry. I bet the meat freezes well, too. Can you say BBQ sandwiches on a whim???
Thanks so much! Becky
Hey! I did grab your button for my blog and the recipe sounds delicious! Thanks, Kerrie
Okay Queen B...that Kalua Pork looks scrumptious!
Yes...Pike Place Market is a dream. I must admit it can be a bit overwhelming...so much to choose from. Bainbridge Island has a Farmer's Market that is easier to shop...quaint and intimate. Next time there's a "girls weekend" in Spokane...you must pop over to Seattle...spend the night in the Inn at the Market (right by Pikes Market). Let me ask you a question...if your comment on my blog reaches me by email...can I hit 'reply' and pop a response back to you? The email address when I do says... no-reply comment@blogger.com Blogging is new to me...still trying to figure it all! Happy Day! XXOOX
This is my favorite recipe for pork. I have been making this exact recipe for a few years, and honestly, no recipe is better! Now, I MUST try your bbq sauce recipe!
(I do the pulled pork in the slow cooker, 6-12 hours, the longer the better...!)
Can't wait - love your recipes! xo
Natashya- It IS delicious ! You have to try it !!
Life at Camellia Cottage- Let me know if you make it and how you like it !

Hi Queen B!
My darling hubbs grew up in Kailua, Oahu and has made Kalua Pork lots of times....He also makes the best Azeka ribs ever....Have you tried those too? DELISH....one of my very favorite dishes
I'm going to get him on the Kalua pork this weekend! :-)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs,
Spencer
We are going to Hawaii for a holiday in January...you have really whet my appetite now! Happy weekend, NM.
Oh my goodness.........it IS such a small world...we actually live in the NW and run across folks from Hawaii allll the time. In fact, my hubb's best friend from childhood lives here too. I find it so surprising that people who have lived in a warm climate would move here! All of his family is still there....well, now spread out on The Big Island, Maui and Oahu....He's been here for about 17 years now...(and knows the NW better than I do!)
Where did you live?
Hugs,
Spencer
