Santiago and Manolin

Santiago and Manolin have a strong bond with each other through out this book, despite their age difference. Santiago is old, he represents wisdom and he can teach Manolin things with his experiences, like fishing or his knowledge of baseball. Manolin is young, he represents youth and has the enthusiasm to keep energy alive. Santiago finds it important to remember his youth, which is represented by the lions in his dreams.
