Matthew 5:8 "Blessed at the pure in heart for they will see God" (NIV)
"In Jesus, God makes Himself visible. But His identity remains hidden to those with divided hearts. Only those whose hearts are purified by faith "see" Him as He really is. To know Christ is to know God and to "see" Him.".... Sinclair B. Ferguson
We praise and thank Jesus because he saved us from our sins and death, but we also should praise him for showing us the Father. Through Christ's life and teachings we "see" the Father in ways no one ever had before. He became a visible representation of the invisible God. When we listen to his words, observe his actions, take his yoke and learn from him, we draw closer to the Father.
Those with "divided hearts" are the opposite of the "pure in heart" who "see God". If we are trying to divide our loyalty between God's way and world's way we will never truly see God for who he is. We are trying to drag him down to our level and make God in our image instead of being willing to let him make us in his image as he intended in creation. Seeing God means also following him.
Seeing God involves whole-hearted allegiance. We accept his word and adjust our own behavior and attitudes accordingly. Christ gives us the clearest image of God that we can find to focus on and follow.
Thank you Jesus for showing us the Father! We see him all you are and all you teach us. Help me to follow you whole-heartedly that I might truly see God in all that he is. amen
