In case you haven't noticed, I'm not one to post links to downloads from other blogs (and I try to make sure the albums I post are not available on other blogs either). But this is one that I was thrilled to find and just had to share. It is the only album from Australian group I'm Talking. I have searched for this album for years, and I was fortunate enough to finally find it on the Ausrock blog. Thanks guys! I was obsessed with their song "Do You Wanna Be", a song which was played occasionally on radio in Canada, and the video was also in limited rotation on Muchmusic. To me it was the perfect dance song, very freestyle-ish. I was never able to find out anything else about the group, however, other than it was fronted by two attractive ladies (remember, this was before the internet was popular!). They didn't release anything else here and I assumed they were a one song wonder. A little research led me to discover that they did indeed record an album and were a huge success in the UK. Formed by ex-members of experimental funk group Essendon Airport in 1983, they recruited two singers, Kate Ceberano and Zan Abeyratne, who were back-up singers for Australian group Models (the group James Freud of previous postee Beatfish was a member of - they are even featured prominently in that group's video for "God Bless America"). I'm Talking's sound was pure dance pop, with loads of funk and freestyle elements. They were very successful in Australia, and they even signed to London Records in the UK. But apparently troubles with the label resulted in only one song being released internationally, "Do You Wanna Be". They attempted to record another album with a line-up change, but once Kate decided to pursue a solo career, the group folded. Kate would go on to have the most success, as she released many solo albums and had many hits in Australia over the years. I have one of those albums that, while not as good as this album, is pop fun. And I also have some of her more acoustic recent work, which is truly lovely. But this album is by far her best work. I'm just sad that it took so long for me to find it, as I've missed out on it's pop perfection all of these years!
