nearly wordless wednesday
Luke is a very satisfying companion when one's in the mood to whip up some hummus.
Just don't forget your own bowl.

nearly wordless wednesday: mini chef
Isaac loves nothing quite so much as helping me cook. Whenever I start doing something in the kitchen, he runs in at top speed, drags a chair over, and grabs a spoon, whisk, or measuring cup, and launches right in. Sometimes it's a little scary (like when we're at the stove--I have given up on keeping him away and instead just focusing on super monitoring), but it's fun to see his fascination with everything and his eagerness to do taste-testing (remarkable and heartening because he is a very reluctant eater these days).
Isaac's favorite appliance of the moment: the food processor. (The pesto and salsa I made last week were a little over-blended, due to his extreme enthusiasm!)

nearly wordless wednesday
Lately I've been drinking green smoothies every day. Isaac is a fan ("moah smoofie!"). I haven't really experimented with recipes because I like the first one I tried so much.
Fill blender to top with spinach, add 1 c. orange juice (or pineapple, but you must have the citrus to cancel out the spinach flavor), blend until spinach is totally liquified. Add 1 very ripe banana and 3-4 strawberries, blend, then add a generous handful of blueberries (I use frozen). Blend until everything is totally liquified and you don't have any fruit chunks.
**I tried this with romaine and looseleaf lettuce a couple of times and I couldn't get rid of the bitter taste--I'd definitely stick with spinach. And I don't have a fancy Vitamix or Blendtec blender, just a regular KitchenAid, and it works just fine to pulverize the spinach so there aren't any leaf chunks.

Mine
I've been taking pictures lately in that last hour before we eat dinner--the one where we're waiting for Neil to get home and everyone is a little cranky. It's kind of a crazy time (big understatement), but it's one that I want to remember when they're all older, because they are so darn cute.
ps--yes, I finished appliqueing the pillows after the picture was taken. |

nearly wordless wednesday
Often when people find out that we don't have a TV, their first question is "What do your kids do while you make dinner?"
This is what Isaac does. Regularly.
Pots and pans will hold his attention for ten minutes, but onion skins? Ah, now we're talking! (I've never seen a kid move so fast towards the lazy susan where the onions are stored--it's like he bides his time every evening, just hanging out with the Leapfrog letters until I reach for an onion...)
