Since launching his bespoke hand printed fabric collection in 2002, Michael Devine Ltd. has expanded to include hand painted dinnerware, home accessories, interior design, and his first book, An Invitation to the Garden.
The foundation of his design work rests on his studies of art history at the Ecole du Louvre, French at the Sorbonne, cooking at the Ritz Escoffier and experiences of living in Paris which continues to inspire his work. It was living in Paris that refined his painting style and his designs, which lead him to create his luxurious bespoke silk screened fabric collection of modern traditional prints, Michael Devine Ltd.
Devine’s fabrics are frequently featured in the worlds top design magazines and blogs, including House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Traditional Home, Quest, British House & Garden, The World of Interiors, Remodelista and Quintessence. His fabric collection was chosen by French Elle Decoration as Best of International. His Kinderhook apartment was featured on HGTV’s Small Spaces Big Ideas. In 2010 he designed a beautiful shed as a bloggers retreat for the Berkshire Botanical Gardens annual summer exhibit “Living in Nature”.
When Michael is not designing, he can be found in his garden, cooking for and entertaining friends or dreaming of Paris. In 2006 he found a charming property in the upstate village of Kinderhook, New York where he continues to refine his aesthetic and craft in his studio. It is in Kinderhook that his love of gardening took root and he has created his acclaimed Jardin de Cure. This garden has been featured in Country Living Magazine, House Beautiful, Veranda and Woman’s Day Gardening & Outdoor Living. He has also been featured in the New York Times Shopping With column.
The Kinderhook garden and resulting influence on Michael is well documented in his first book, An Invitation to the Garden, A Seasonal Guide to Entertaining. Its successful release in March of 2014 by Rizzoli International has added an additional role to Michael resume: Speaker. He has lectured at the Round Hill Country Club, The California Club, ADAC, Antique & Garden Show of Nashville, The Newport Flower Show, Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden and many other locals throughout the country.
It was also 2014, that he collaborated with the renowned French porcelain house of Marie Daage, to develop his exclusive collection of hand painted dinnerware.
The resulting patterns are based on two of Michaels fabric designs Thomas and Charlotte. Each exquisite piece is hand painted by skilled artists in Limoges, France on the finest French porcelain available today.
