Ready for Spring

Yea, I know..so who isn't ready for Spring? With all this snow. It's only about 9 AM and already it feels like it should be noon!

Woke up to about a foot of more snow and the sound of my neighbor's snow blower..thank goodness for my neighbor! I'd be shoveling out all day if it wasn't for him! He takes his snow blowing very seriously...but that's okay with me!

Bundled up..grabbed the snow shovel..and tried to dig out the car...didn't last too long. That snow's heavy!

So since the only color outside my window is gray and white..they're not even colors!..I felt the need to dig into my archive of photos taken during this past summer and fall..just to remind myself of good things to come..warmer weather and all!

These first two photos I took while driving over the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge..ever take picture while driving? I don't recommend it! But I do love the views as you cross the bridge. These were taken in the Fall.

Haven't decided what to bake today..but I need to give cake a rest! ..Hmm..maybe muffins!

My sister's garden..Summer

And how could I not include the New Jersey shore..this is Sea Girt..grew up here. Best time for the shore is just after summer ends...you have the whole place to yourself!

And that brings us back to this morning!
Looks like a snowman ( a skinny one) sitting on that chair!
Ok..thanks..that's it..back to the kitchen!

Blueberry Picking

Today was the perfect summer day! It was bright and sunny with no humidity..perfect for doing just about anything outside. Like picking blueberries. Sure you can just go to the local market and buy a few pints, but why miss out on the chance to hang out with your son, enjoy the weather and gather sweet delicious berries!
While Kris was getting as many berries as he could, I noticed behind us the beautiful garden and couldn't resist photographing this yellow summer squash almost ready to be picked. I can't wait for the zucchini blossoms again this year. Have you ever fried them? Or stuffed them? They're so good!

Bucks County on a Saturday in Carversville

Whenever I leave the house without my camera, I get that nagging feeling I'm going to see a perfect opportunity to photograph something wonderful and kick myself for not bringing along the camera. I mean, there's so much beauty in this county at every turn, with the old red barns, golden fields, farm animals and stone farmhouses, just to name a few photo worthy views. I think back to the time I was coming home from a Sunday market and were rerouted through a back country road when, seemingly, out of nowhere, a huge group of pigs..yes pigs.. crossed the road right in front of me! Where they came from and where they were going is still a mystery to me! It was such a funny site to see, but, no camera!

Well, after the farmer's market on Saturday I thought I'd take a ride to Carversville where they were having their annual Carversville Day. And there was a cookie contest going on which I couldn't pass up!
Carversville is a delightful and charming historic village and full of the most wonderful old houses. It's a step back in time, a quiet and peaceful area if there ever was one.
I strolled through the day's event, heard the announcer ( Noel Barrett..you would know him as the toy expert from the famous Antiques Roadshow on PBS) call the names of the winning cookies, then decided I needed to see more of this beautiful village.
The photos of the houses are along the main street. The house above has a sign that reads " Justice of the Peace". There seem to be quite a few empty looking houses but many are being lovingly restored by people who truly love and appreciate older homes.

I loved the American flag in the downstairs window of this house. The house has so much character and is one of the homes being worked on.

This to me is a typical Bucks County scene with the beautiful gardens and the stucco over stone farmhouse.

One of the many old red barns that are everwhere. I loved the lanterns strung across the yard, some just hanging bulbs!

This is the Carversville Inn.

I loved this old stone house. I don't think anyone lives in it as it's really overgrown. A beautiful front door.

Well, I just thought I'd share some of the area where I live.
Sometimes, I think about other places to move to that may be more exciting or interesting but there's so much to appreciate right here. What's the expression.. "Bloom where you're planted"!

A Summerlike Day in the Country

It was such a warm summerlike day today, I thought I'd leave a little earlier for the farmers market, grab my camera and hit the country roads.
Bucks County does have some beautiful scenery and around every bend in the road you can find an abundance of farms, fields, barns or just a single tree standing alone in the sparkling sunshine.
When you experience the scenery in this county, it's easy to understand why so many artists and especially painters came here to paint this beautiful landscape.
One of those painters, Daniel Garber, was a Pennsylvania Impressionist painter who was best known for his large impressionistic scenes of the New Hope area.
Here it is over 60 to 70 years since he painted in the Bucks County area and much of the scenery has changed very little.
I hope you enjoy the views!!

On the road again

Lost on a country road... But a pretty one!!

You want me to...what!??

Well Janet (my antique/flea market friend) and I are hitting the road again this week. We're off to Brimfield,Mass. for a few days of treasure hunting !!

A few more photos of this past Sunday. I went to the artist tour I previously mentioned (that I baked 300 cookie for !!..Yikes) going on in various locations . Well the first location was fine but the next place to visit was down this long country gravel road with absolutely no signage to let me know I was going the correct way.The view was well worth it though...but then I will drive just about anywhere for the views! THEN.. I finally get to the bottom of the hill and awaiting me is this stream I am supposed to drive through!!? No, I don't think so. This weekend the tour is going on again and maybe without any rain this week I can traverse the stream...ya' think?!

See you in a few days!!

Vintage Dresses

I went to visit my friend Paula who owns a beautiful vintage clothing shop called Mill Crest in Lambertville, NJ today . She has the most wonderful collection of vintage dresses, shoes, hats, jewelry and just about anything else for sale. Doesn't the yellow dress outside look like something our new first lady would wear? Neat stuff!!

Mercer Museum. This castle is a trip back in time

I had to be in Doylestown this afternoon and since it was such a beautiful day here today I brought my camera along just in case I was inspired ( well yes, I'm always inspired to photograph something!) You know, sometimes when you live in an area that has so much to offer and you see these wonderful places every day you tend to take it for granted and don't really appreciate the scenery as a visitor would.

So, I "visited" Doylestown today, with camera in hand and bring you photos of the Mercer Museum which is a truly amazing structure. This is a six-story, concrete castle completed in 1916 to house Henry Mercer's vast collection of early American everyday objects.

If you ever get a chance to visit, you will be amazed with the treasures on each floor. There is a log cabin also on the property which I show a close up of the window.

Okay now, I really need to get back in the kitchen to do some baking !

A Drive in the Country

I am so fortunate to live in a beautiful area of Bucks County Penna. I even named my cookie company after it !!

I took a day off from baking today and my friend and I went out for a drive in the country. There are just roads galore of scenic places to see and photograph around here in Bucks Co. and I will continue to share many of them with you. Barns, stone farmhouses, farms and of course, my favorite, covered bridges everywhere! Well, enough talk...just look and delight in the beauty!!
