Consecration

Last video for the book "Sabbath." We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have!!!

We will be back soon with a very exciting update about Bloom :)

In the meantime, I would LOVE to hear anything you want to share about implementing something you learned from this book. I know it will inspire me and I'm sure it will bless others as well. I know one thing I have been more mindful of is the idea that "stuff" will never bring peace, and even as my mind says, "that will be the thing..." I am reminded of my mistaken image of the perfect life. Something else that really spoke to me was the idea that I often feel useless or lazy when I am having Sabbath time, because I believe we live in a time of go, go, go and it's hard for me to wrap my brain around the greater purpose of being a good steward of my time and allowing the Lord to restore me.

What I have found is that when I force myself to do this, I end up so blessed and truthfully, I get a lot more done because I am focused instead of all over the place. It's still a struggle for me to be as disciplined as I want to be, so I think I might just start the book over again until I do it :)

How about you?

Blessings and love to you all, and a very happy turkey day!

  1. Praying for Jess that this sicky time will be over soon. Angie, you did a great job with this last chapter. I share some of those same feelings about feeling lazy and useless when having Sabbath moments. I feel that if I'm not doing housework or cooking providing somehow for the family whether they're in the house or not, that I'm not a good mother. Struggling with the amount of time I have been in Sabbath. My kids are all out of the house now 1 married, 1 lives on her own and my son is away at college. But I still struggle with this. I know it's a transition time for hubby and I with the kids gone.

One sentence you didn't mention that really is helping me is in the chapter "The Way of Enough" - bottom of pg 202 ~ "At rest, we may be surprised how, even in the driest places, we are quickly filled to sufficiency by the multitude of gratuitous offerings that arise in a single Sabbath afternoon". I love this statement ~ so each day I go to the word. The scriptures are jumping out at me like never before. Thank you for this book and for the two of you who have graciously given up your time to bring it into our homes and hearts.

  2. oh my! Your dog made me JUMP GIRL! You handled this video with such grace and beauty!

I do the same thing... when things aren't "done" in my mind... I can't seem to let my mind and heart "turn off". Such bondage we put ourselves in huh!

REST REST REST! :-) Thank you.

I'm hoping that a certain book will be the next choice... anything to do with gifts???? That's just my guess.

  3. I struggle horribly with REST. I have 4 boys who are always on the go and making dirty hand print's on the walls. I find it hard to just let things go, I need to be moving or else.

As far as stuff goes...well, I have been having a problem with that as well. I have a nice size home and find that I don't want or need half the stuff we have in it and it is beginning to make me crazy. I feel like I have been a poor steward of God's money and that is not what He intended me to do with it.

Thanks so much for all the videos. This was the first book that I actually followed week by week with. Usually, I'm late or don't have time to sit and watch.

Thanks so much and can't wait for the next book!!

  4. Listening to Rob Bell talking about Advent, and seasons, and how life needs rhythm and rest and timing - reminded me of this book - and I think I'm getting multiple messages at once for a reason....

  6. This has been such a thought-provoking book for me. Thank you SO MUCH for this book club!!! Angie & Jess, you two are such a blessing! :0)

So many things in this book and in your videos really touched my heart, but the thing that most sticks out to me (and is kinda, I think, the synopsis for the whole book) is the bottom of page 32:

"If we forget to rest we will work too hard and forget our more tender mercies, forget those we love, forget our children and our natural wonder. God says: Please, don't. It is a waste of a tremendous gift I have given you. If you knew the value of your life, you would not waste a single breath. So I give you this commandment: Remember to rest. This is not a life-style suggestions, but a commandment--as important as not stealing, not murdering, or not lying."

    So amazing.

Thank You, God, for this amazing reminder!

Praying for Jess, and thank you two again! You are awesome. :0)

  8. Is there anyone who has finished with their Sabbath book and be willing to pass if on? I would love to focus and meditate on some of the things that were touched on in the comments and cannot get it through my library. Buying one was not an option for me right now and I did not want to request a book this time around also.....It would be a blessing to my hurried heart....
