Joy's Joy!

Joy's Joy

Recently I have been thinking about finishing up the couple of words that I missed.  I have small knitting/spinning group that meets every couple of weeks. One of our group is named Joy. I had an idea pop up, Joy's joy is spinning!  Her birthday is this week, so I wanted to make a surprise gift of a 12x12 art quilt. I took photographs one meeting when the others had their wheels spinning yarn. I am in search of a wheel of my own, so pretended that this was a scouting job.  I quilted "twist" into the background and used a bit of my spindle spin yarn for the bobbin and tail of fiber. Karen's husband (a woodworker) provided the hanging stick. Joy loved this gift!

Colorado Prairie

Colorado Prairie. I dyed the piece of fabric at the dye party in July. My free motion quilting still needs a lot more practice, but I am trying.

California Blues

This is so Californian. I took a class from Sandi Cummings (Californian) at Asilomar, in California, while I was living in California. With my friend Diane (Californian). The freeform cutting and sticks were techniques from that class. I bought the fabrics while in California this year at three different California quilt shops. I really enjoy freeform cutting.

No Name Yet

I wanted to do something with graffiti. I bought paint pens, had an idea in my head about how to make bricks. I am working on some trading cards. Trying to clean up the bits and pieces in my pre-fused baggie and Bam! I completely changed directions. This is an example of my studio. Total chaos. Bits here, bits there, sock yarn, fuzzy bits, threads hanging everywhere. Each layer of the piece has two straight sides. None of them are lined up. I put some netting on there, couldn't even cut that to fit over the top. Oh well, story of my life. Now to get back to the trading cards.......

Peace. Always in Fashion.

This was 99% finished for a long time. I wanted a special peace quote for the label. Instead, it is better that I waited, the right words came to me this afternoon. Blue background and tie dye shirt were done in Anne's batiking class this summer. Mini clothespins were courtesy of Kaye. Now to frog.

Here Comes the Sun

Comfort is the Sun shining after a cold storm. I used foundation piecing for the sun. I started to quilt it with my all over "wiggle" quilting. When I saw how only quilting in one direction gave the piece the look of a breeze, I decided not to cross the quilting lines.
