At a recent wedding, I've got to know that my friend got pregnant & she didnt know it until she after did an adventure race at Hulu Langat.. Then she & hub started asking me stuff about do's N dont's on training while being pregnant.. Smile.. another pregnant athlete in the making =)
It was as if my pregnancy months were just yesterday, it wasnt easy at all, yet; not impossible =) I did not have much reference on doing sports while pregnant, as my gynea did not help much on that either (the traditional type) I would like to thank Dr Zana for her advises as well. Her advise helps alot, btw, she runs under Ian's coaching, & is making alot of progress =) The other reference I had was surfing on the website. Quarrelled with hub plenty atimes, as I only extracted what I wanted to know, while he was the one who thinks much more than I do. I did remember going through all mum's blog etc etc (reita, jaja, aini, kash, haza, to name a few & many more which I forgotten) for whats going on with pregnancy & stuff..
In my opinion; & what I had done.. I do think training without impact is good for the baby..
- Aydeen is a very healthy kid (4kg.. i still think its d supplement's culprit)..
- No jaundice, no other complication (jaundice can be cured by breastfeeding)
- He is now kicking & boxing through his way when we bring him out (i think every child is extremely active in their own way)...
- I had minimal weight gain, 10kg overall (though i have friend who gained 7-8kg only)..
- No morning sickness, no dizziness; yet there is still soreness & every other pregnant symtomps =) N
- I sort of expected my delivery to be abit easier than normal (that did not materialize.. i had friends who do not do sports at all, but had short labour & delivery sounded like a breeze.. faith in Allah is way much more important)
However, from what I read through the net, exercising during pregnancy is definitely a big NO NO if you are not active before pregnant. However, if you have been active all the while, it should be good. Yet, do listen to your body, as the child would be the most important. We can do sports any other time. At times, we might be extremely healthy before pregnant, but being pregnant is another state of health. First three month is the most critical stage, for the zygot to implant into our uterus, hence less impact sports. Then, 2nd semester would be easier as the morning sickness would have gone away then.. 3rd semester is back to square one, as this is the time our stomach keep ballooning =)
Running - 1st trisem - slow & sedentary running. 2nd trisem - more mileage, tu pun last for about 8-10km per session. sometime earlier, hit about 16-18km on weekend. 3rd trisem - no running at all, as groin pain started creeping in.. I have read of pregnant runner running towards the end of their pregnancy, until contraction happens.. it is possible, but do listen to our own body =)
Biking - none at all, after having a bike accident, I decided to forgo all biking activities.. No matter how much precaution we take, sometimes accident does happen.. (actually malas da nak naik bike)
Swimming - 1st trisem - active in swimming as we had joined the kapas marang gang for training =) Had long distance swimming, max at 5km.. pastu pening.. 2nd & 3rd trisem tak swim sgt, takde mood.. hehe, mood swing
ergo/rowing - 1st trisem - inactive sikit.. sibuk buat bende lain. 2nd & 3rd sem, full blast coz its impact free & full body workout.. =)
Trail/cross sports/triathlon - once in a while, kayak & race gak, lepas gian gitu gitu.. races was of course lepas gian, no more competitive (not that i am that competitive pun)
Ni lar punca takde modal to blog.. Nevertheless, its just a summary of my pregnancy. N different pregnancy is different. even pregnant without doing any sports is difficult, as coping with pregnancy symtomps itself is harsh. Nothing to compare, masing masing punye cerita. I had come across mums who pandang slack on ceaserean as well.. Or how other deliver compared to herself. Again, no what ever method is the delivery, yang penting mum & the child is safe =)
p/s: do listen to body, & gynea, then evaluate. the child comes first =) N i have my respect to all mum out there, they are sort of my inspiration right now =)
