http://www.stomp.com.sg/stompcast/index.html# Check this out. It's about Hossan Leong making a point on the importance and the meaning of speaking Good English movement. It's really hilarious how he tries to show that speaking good english doesnt mean that we have to speak with an accent. Imagine speaking singlish in an american accent. I find it hilarious while it does make a point.
Sometimes i wonder, within a month, there can be Speak Good English and Mandarin campaign running concurrently. How can our younger students be expected to master both languages properly at the same times. Imagine the confusion. I am trying to get Claudia to speak English properly without the lah, meh and loh. (it's hard! school really bring good and bad influences. now nathan is picking up singlish too! double bad) At least im not worried about Chloe, although she doesnt speak clearly, but i know she's speaking good english. She even picked up an accent, from all the Dora, Strawberry Shortcake and Carebear shows that she's been watching.
Maybe due to both campaigns running simultaneously, children picks up singlish. I really wonder whether this point is a factor affecting people to speak singlish.
