James Atticus Bowden: "Let's fix Virginia first. Now."

The latest edition of Bacon's Rebellion e-mag includes Jim Bowden's commonsense advice about how to get back on the economic high road.

In Fix Virginia First -- What to do after an economic bubble bursts, writes that it is not rocket science ... it is Economics 101:
We must fix Virginia, first, for more, better economic opportunity – to enable, expand and enhance personal freedom for the individual to chose where and how he works, lives, plays and raises a family.

Bacon's Rebellion and James Atticus Bowden

The new edition of Bacon's Rebellion e-zine is out under the management of the Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy with articles from Mike Thompson, Michele Sessions, John Palatiello, Michael Cecire, Patrick McSweeney, David Schnare, James Atticus Bowden, and Frank Kilgore.

Jim Bowden's contribution this month is Virginia Republicans' Challenge in 2009 as he ponders the past and future of the Republican Party:
If Virginia voted for a Democrat for President for the first time in 44 years, how can Virginia vote for a Republican for Governor for the first time in 12 years? Will the Democrats win the Virginia House like they did the Senate in ’07? What must Republican candidates do?

Run as conservatives. Repent for the past by running for an honest conservative future: spend less, tax less, fix transportation and let the market lead us to energy independence.
Good reading from Bacon's Rebellion.

HB 3202 (HRTA) ... not good for Tidewater

Jim Bowden lives in Tidewater and is fighting HB 3202 ... but he needs help. He posted today on Deo Vindice and Bacon's Rebellion:
My new state senator, John Miller (D-1SD), saw his bill to kill the HRTA die in committee. He had modified his own bill to end the unelected, unaccountable, unseparated powers Regional Government to exclude only The Peninsula. Still, it went down 10-4.Now, the only chance to kill the HRTA this session is the bill my delegate, Tom Gear (R-91HD), submitted.

HB 829 redlines, repeals, the HRTA and its projects which don't solve the transportation congestion here from the monster HB3202. The rest of HB3202 stands for the rest of the Commonwealth to suffer. The People of Tidewater still stand against this wrong plan, expansion of unnecessary government, and wrong taxes over 2:1.Yet, the bill isn't even on the docket in the House Transportation Committee.

Jim Bowden for Congress ... on illegal immigration

Jim Bowden for Congress -- the issues:

Illegal Immigration: Close the borders to ILLEGAL ALIENS now. No excuses. No delays. Bowden will work for the proper funding for the full enforcement of the laws already on the books. He supports amendments to fix the worst parts of the 1986 Immigration law. He favors restrictions on immigration from Terrorist-producing countries. Bowden advocates a large, healthy LEGAL immigration of over a million persons a year – especially to re-unite families. Deport criminal illegal aliens first.

Jim Bowden for Congress ... his biography

James Atticus Bowden will be 57 on November 18th. He was born in Lawton, OK, in 1950. He has been married to the former Katherine Kyle of Beckley, WV, for over 32 years. They have two daughters, one son and one son-in-law, one granddaughter and twin grandchildren in the womb. They have resided in Poquoson since 1989.

Jim earned a competitive Presidential appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point for the Class of 1974. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. He served in five combat divisions as an Airborne, Ranger-qualified officer and retired after 20 years in service. He has been a defense consultant ever since.

Jim earned a Masters of Public Administration from the JFK School of Government, Harvard University in 1981. He taught American Government, Public Administration, and Research and Methodology for the Social Science courses for 3 years in the Department of Social Sciences, United States Military Academy. He was an Army officer graduate of the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Quantico, VA, in 1985. He earned a Masters in Philosophy of Political Science at Columbia University in 1985. Bowden taught one semester, “Politics of the Cold War,” as adjunct faculty in the Government Department at the College of William and Mary in 1993.

Jim joined the Republican Party the week he retired from active duty. He was the chairman of the Poquoson City Committee 1997-2004. He was elected at competitive conventions, like the one on November 10th, to the State Central Committee, RPV in 2002 and re-elected in 2004. Jim has contributed to 7 local elections where his side was outspent and still won – contrary to all political wisdom – when the odds were 2:1, 3:1, 5:1. 10:1 and 40:1. He has helped win every local election where he had an active role.

He served as the First Vice-Chairman of the First District until Russ Moulton, the former Chairman, resigned. Russ asked him to step up. Congresswoman Davis took the unusual act of endorsing Bowden in public. Jim was elected the Chairman, First District Committee, RPV on September 21st. He resigned this position to avoid the appearance of any conflict of interest in this nomination process to select our Republican candidate.

Jim has been involved in community affairs in many aspects – often as a grassroots activist.

Jim writes an op ed column for the Yorktown Crier/Poquoson Post. He contributes to the premier policy web site and ezine in Virginia, "Bacon’s Rebellion." He was a local columnist at the request of the Daily Press. He has a web site and blogs at Deo Vindice. His first novel, Rosetta 6.2, was published in 2007. Many websites carry his op eds regularly. National sites, like Newsmax.com and PatriotPost.us, carry him on occasion.

Jim is a member and Sunday School teacher of Emmaus Baptist Church in Poquoson.

Jim Bowden for 1st District Congressman

James Atticus Bowden ... his life is public service. Duty, honor, country serving as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Family, community and Commonwealth as a civilian. He is a candidate for the 1st District Congressional seat ... check out this video to hear his story in his own words.

If you live in the 1st District please consider being a delegate for Jim on Saturday, November 10, at Caroline County (Bowling Green). Check his website for info and to donate to his campaign.

This election, if it’s decided by a grassfire of Virginia voters, more than grassroots manipulation will be by the People and for the People. Not the politicians. Not the consultants. Not the special interests. Not the money and power people. Not the activist king makers. This is a chance for someone who talks the talk and walks the walk to represent all the people.

If you want to help Jim earn the Republican nomination for Congress on November 10th, please send an email with your name, address, best telephone and email to Jim Bowden.

Congressman James Atticus Bowden?

West Point graduate ... military veteran ... author ... conservative leader ... grassroots activist ... 1st District Chairman ... Bacon's Rebellion contributor....

Jim posted at Deo Vindice this week that he was resigning as 1st District Chairman. He wrote:
I resign because I am seriously considering running as a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. House of Representatives, First District Virginia.
Jim is a friend, a mentor, and someone I greatly respect. He would serve the people of the 1st District well as their representative in D.C.

Bacon's Rebellion has some reflective thoughts here.
