Day of prayer for Gulf states this Sunday

From David Barton at Wallbuilders.com....

Historically in America, whenever there has been a crisis, our civic leaders have called our cities, states, and even our nation to prayer, asking for God's help and guidance. They understood that help would come only through calling out for God's intervention.

Today, the Gulf Coast States face a crisis with the oil spill that has threatened health, homes, and jobs, in addition to a number of other problems - and there doesn't seem to be a successful solution close at hand. So the elected leaders of the Gulf Coast States - Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida - are calling for a day of prayer in their states this coming Sunday, June 27.

We are including links to their prayer proclamations below and we encourage you to print them off and take them to church with you this Sunday, encouraging your congregation, friends and family to join with others in this critical time of prayer.Even if you are not in one of the states along the Gulf, we're urging everyone across the nation to join with these states, asking for God's hand to be on all the decision-makers and lawmakers, that He would give them discernment and guidance, and that a solution would be forthcoming.

I John 5:14-15 says, "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."

Please join with these states in petitioning God for a quick work in the Gulf Coast Region!

Recap: 900 hear David Barton in Harrisonburg

The journey used to be a handful of people trying to chip away at the Wall of Government. With the help of Barack Obama and the Democrats, America is awakening to a need to stand up, be heard, and make a difference. Republicans, conservative Democrats, Independents, Tea Party, Constitution, Ron Paul, and other conservatives have risen up against more and more government spending and overreaching to say, "No more!"

David Barton has been one of those voices for years educating Americans on our Christian heritage through Wallbuilders, speaking at home school conventions and church conventions and gatherings throughout the country. In addition, he has been called on for his Ameican history experience including the current Texas textbook case where he served on the committee that decided the historical content. His presence has grown more since he began appearing on Glenn Beck's Friday television program on Fox News, helping to educate America about the founders and their purpose for this country.

His presence in the Shenandoah Valley earlier this week was nothing short of spectaculator. Over 900 heard his message at a sold-out dinner, at a mid-day lunch, and at a pastors meeting. His knowledge of American history is stunning.

Dean Welty, Director of the Valley Family Forum, sent out the following update about the dinner. Great evening, great fellowship, great friendships. A tip of our hats to Dean and Janet for their leadership.
David Barton held more than 900 guests spellbound at the Forum’s 9th annual Shenandoah Valley “Salute to the Family” last Monday with a strong case for Biblical principles and the faith of our Founding Fathers as primary influences on the shaping of American government. He concluded that America was and still is a Christian nation -- and perhaps even in the early stages of a Third Great Awakening. Laus Deo!

A Celebration of Our Christian Heritage
The theme for this year’s Salute was “A Celebration of Our Christian Heritage”, and Barton drew from over 100,000 original documents at WallBuilders to present evidence at three different events that America was established on Judeo-Christian principles by strong Christian leaders. (For details about David Barton, go to www.wallbuilders.com.)

The Lunch
With the dinner already SOLD OUT, 320 luncheon guests heard Barton describe the “Keys to Good Government – According to the Founding Fathers”. His central message was that “the key to good government is found in the quality of the people who rule (and) that … this nation can be blessed only in so far as we place God-fearing and moral individuals into office.”

The Pastors’ Roundtable
More than 70 pastors and ministry leaders later packed the Allegheny Room for Barton’s presentation on “The Role of Pastors and Christians in Civil Government”. He described the role of the revolutionary era church in training civic leaders and influencing public policy as a model for Christians to once again become salt and light in every arena of society – including the public square. He also cited recent victories in the Texas school board battles to restore truth to school history books as a great example for this model.

The Dinner
Barton ended the day in a packed ballroom with nearly 550 guests to make the case that America was founded as a Christian nation – and remains so yet today. He drew from a range of quotes by the Founding Fathers and in founding documents, all of which demonstrate that America was established on a firm foundation of Biblical principles and Christian beliefs.

The Wilberforce Award
The Forum was especially pleased to present its very first Wilberforce award to Rita Dunaway for her leadership in regulating sexually oriented businesses (SOB’s) in Harrisonburg, in protecting religious freedoms in the workplace for people like Luis Padilla, and in formulating new pro-life legislation for the Virginia General Assembly.

Supporting Cast
“Gen. George Washington”, rebel fifer Greg Hernandez, the Galloway Music Family, pianist Miriam Clark, and The Faithful Men all set a new standard of excellence for an enjoyable evening that included many pastors, legislators, remarks from President Victoria Cobb of The Family Foundation, and delightful program leadership from WHSV-TV’s Kay Norred and Dr. John Sloop, pastor of the First Presbyterian church on Court Square in Harrisonburg.

In God We Trust
At each main event, we encouraged guests to apply for the new “In God We Trust” license plate that will be considered by the General Assembly next year – if we can get the needed 350 completed applications on file before that time. If you have not yet applied, you can download the form at http://www.ingodwetrust.com and send it to the address shown.

Thank You! At the end of the day, however, the success of the Celebration came down to over 900 people who have a passion for God and Country, and who want to help America return to the firm foundation of “religion and morality” on which this nation has prospered for 400 years. We are deeply grateful for your participation, for your prayers, and for your generous support.
The conservative movement continues to gather steam....

Dean has had Ed Meese, Roy Moore, and others for his dinner speakers. Who in the world will he find next year? After David Barton, they will have big shoes to fill!

"Celebration of Our Christian Heritage" ... David Barton wows 500 with non-PC history lesson

Texas resident David Barton was the keynote speaker at Monday's Valley Family Forum sold-out dinner, "A Celebration of Our Christian Heritage," at James Madison University.

"I am grateful to Almighty God for the blessings which, through Jesus Christ Our Lord, He had conferred on my beloved country...." - Charles Carroll, last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence

David Barton is one of the premiere historians on American history, someone who tirelessly travels the country educating Americans about our Christian heritage against a negative sea of liberal misinformation. Through his website, Wallbuilders, he provides the tools necessary to learn, and his materials were part of my home school curriculum over the years.

Monday night Valley folks were fortunate to have him as the keynote speaker for the annual Valley Family Forum dinner in Harrisonburg, an event that sold out more than a month ago. The reason it was sold out was simple: David Barton knows his history and he has an entertaining way of passing it along to his audiences.

A regular on the home school circuit over the years, he has now become a regular on Glenn Beck's Fox News television show, appearing weekly for the Friday "Founding Fathers" series. He is able to offer his expertise as well as provide artifact books and documents that he has collected over the years.

On one recent Glenn Beck show, Mr. Barton had the first Bible printed in the United States ... a Bible printed by the U.S. Congress for use in the schools.

What?

Yep ... a Bible printed by the government to be used in the schools. Responding is what Mr. Barton does best as he provides rebuttal to the liberal pablum that is dished out on a daily basis from the public schools to higher education to the mainstream media and, now, the current White House administration.

With a power point presentation providing insight into documents, pictures and information about the Founders, and quotations from many Declaration of Independence signers as well as a number of not-so-famous ones, the 45-minute talk seemed more like 10 minutes.

David Barton provided enough information in that 45 minutes to write 10 posts about his talk. The crowd was captivated and left wanting more after it was over.

Many folks were there. Besides Dean and Janet Welty, others included Sen. Mark Obenshain and his wife Suzanne, Sen. Emmett Hanger, Chaz Evans-Haywood, Marsha Garst, Lowell Barb, Steve Waters, Del. Bob Marshall, Victoria Cobb from the Family Foundation, Larry Roller, Luis Padilla, David and Sherry Huffman, Tommy and Donna Moser, Tony Wilt, Greg the Fifer, "George Washington," and many others. The delegates, usually in attendance, were at a House of Delegates retreat.

At our two tables were friends Suzanne Curran (portraying Mrs. Mullenburg), Frank and Nancy Summers, my neighbors Richard and Ellen, Tara Bowman, SWAC Husband, and some of those from our ladies conservative book club including Debbie Summers, Peggy Bell and her husband Don, Marcia and Dave, Ginger, and Debbie Harper.

Is America a Christian nation?

From David Barton with Wallbuilders....

Christian America?

In recent weeks, President Obama has declared that America should no longer consider itself a Christian nation, but that we are one of the largest Muslim nations in the world. (According to the government's own statistics, however, only about 1 percent of Americans are Muslim.)

Most Americans are unsettled by his dual declarations and believe them to be wrong but se em to lack the ammunition to refute his reckless pronouncements.

I Peter 3:15 instructs us always to be ready to give a reason for the belief within us, and to that end we have prepared a simple and concise historical report demonstrating that America has been and still is a Christian nation. We have included specific evidence from all three branches of government, including both early and recent historical sources. (The report is available in a downloadable format so that you can attach it and email it to others.)

While we hope you enjoy this piece, we especially hope that you will share it with others. We can't let America be redefined simply because the President says it should be so.

Americans are now listening to truth in ways they have not in recent years, so let's retake ground the President is trying to give away!

God Bless!

David Barton

David Barton of Wallbuilders ... "Join a Tax Day Tea Party"

When David Barton speaks, I listen. Leader of Wallbuilders, he educates through public speaking and publications about American history and government, and speaks throughout the nation on a regular basis.

I heard him speak at the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV) convention in Richmond in 2004. His storytelling abilities captivate listeners while teaching American history.

David Barton is encouraging folks to participate in TEA Parties (Taxed Enough Already):

Being a Wise Economic Steward
Next week there will be thousands of TEA parties (Taxed Enough Already) across the nation. In a relatively short period of time, we have seen an explosive increase in government spending and national debt. Previous generations avoided these unhealthy practices, being guided by wise political leaders who understood the blessings of frugality and the dangers of debt.

For example, Alexander Hamilton -- America's first Secretary of the Treasury and also a signer of the Constitution -- wisely declared:
Allow a government to decline paying its debts and you overthrow all public morality -- you unhinge all the principles that preserve the limits of free constitutions.

Nothing can more affect national prosperity than a constant and systematic attention to extinguish the present debt and to avoid as much as possibly the incurring of any new debt.
George Washington similarly warned:
Avoid occasions of expense. . . and avoid likewise the accumulation of debt not only by shunning occasions of expense but by vigorous exertions to discharge the debts, not throwing upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear.
Perhaps no Founding Father was as forthright on this topic as Thomas Jefferson:
If the debt should be swelled to a formidable size, we shall be committed to the career of debt, corruption, and rottenness. . . . The discharge of the debt, therefore, is vital to the destinies of our government.

The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.

I . . . place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.
Jefferson even wisely foresaw where America generally finds itself today:
I am not among those who fear the people. . . . [A]nd to preserve their independence we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy [frugality] and liberty, or profusion [excess spending] and servitude.

If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, our people must come to labor sixteen hours in twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these hours to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread. The [forerunner] of this is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.
Millions of citizens, following the example of America's early residents, have finally decided to draw a line and raise their voice against the government's exorbitant spending and exploding debt.

On April 15, citizens at more than 1,000 locations across the country will be sponsoring TEA parties.

If you want to participate with your fellow citizens, go to TeaParty.com to find a location near you.

Remember to encourage your friends to join you; also bring your cell phone and call Congress and the president while attending the TEA party (switchboard for Representative and Senators, 202-224-3121; President, 202-456-1414).

God bless!
