Chillin' in the Heat

Hello!  It has been very hot this week and the challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique is playing right into the weather! Lyla has challenged us to the following:

"It's the last days of Summer before School begins. What's your favorite part; the heat of the sunshine and laying by the pool or on the beach... or keeping cool in the water, and loading up on cold lemonade in the shade? Let's see a make of your choice- Tag, book, panel, 3D project, etc- with either HOT design using warm colors (red, orange, yellow. etc) or COOL design using cool colors (blues and greens). Use anything at your will to dress up your design and compliment your idea of the perfect degree!"

I have been wanting to play with the bubbles stamp from Stampers Anonymous.  What a perfect stamp for the cool colors! I pulled that out and started inking it up and ended up here:

I started with the fun bubbly background inked up with distress inks.  I cut it to a tag size.  Then I wanted some seaweed (in the cool colors) and  had just removed this tissue paper packaging and was going to recycle it and thought hmmm... this will make some cool layers of water or seaweed.

I pulled out a few distress ink stain sprays and spritzed along either side of the packaging and heat set the colors.

Then I tore it into various strips to create seaweed pieces.  After that I sponged them all with some versamark ink.  I then used the frosted crystals to give them a shimmery effect.

Next I needed sea creatures and wanted to go with the hot colors so I pulled out the seahorses.  I spritzed cardstock with yellow ink spray.  I dried it and stamped them with a lovely orange ink.

After that they also got an embossed finish but this time with clear embossing to make them shiny.

You can see there shine in this photo when the flash highlighted the glossiness.  To finish it off I added some matching seam binding and a fun compass charm.  The sentiment is how I feel when looking at the sea-horses floating so softly in the water.

Come share your cool or hot colors!  The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Golden Sea

Hi!  I have had a wonderful week playing with these projects.  I knew I wanted to do a second creation for A Vintage Journey's Monochromatic challenge.  I was thinking about what inspires me and decided on a golden color scheme.

I started pulling out all of my golden mediums (I had quite a few!)  and thought how could I incorporate all those beautiful golden textures and I thought of the Sea-Horse die and how splendiforous he would be in golden colors with golden textures.  He also is perfect for the Anything But Cute - Summertime Fun and the Mixed Media World MMW16# - Under  the Sea
I started creating lots of glittery golden textured sea-horses.  I began with a gold background on a journal page and inking up lace, ribbon and other bits.  I layered this all on the journal page.  As I was doing that I had this clear idea of a card that would be cleaner in design but use the same elements.

I used the vesafine toffee to stamp the beautiful sentiment and the script.   I then die cut the seaweed and sprayed with the gold die.  I sprinkled the Stampendous Gold Luxe Mix over a strip of glue I pooled on the paper.

Then I continued on with my canvas.

(Click on this to see the details!)
Here is a close up of the sandy bottom.  I glued sand on the bottom and let that dry and then covered it in spray of gold ink. I mixed in some more Stampendous Luxe, golden shells and piles of more sand.

Products: Verses Rubber Stamps - Salt of the Ocean, Stampendous Gold Luxe, Heidi Swapp - Color Shine (Gold Lame), Rangers - Paint Gold, Recollections - Gold Embellishments, Yvonne Blair - Impression Obsession, Versafine - Toffee, Sizzix - Seahorse, Sizzix - Seaweed

I had such fun with this project although I am still sparkling from the glitter!

Have a beautiful day!

Longing for the Sea

Good Morning!  It's time for the funkie reveal at Frilly and Funkie challenge, the theme this time being 'Let's Make it a Trio' hosted by Sue C.  The challenge is to include  3 of something on your art.  This can be three tags, three embellishments or any trio you can think of to include.

I knew I wanted to do something with three parts to my project so I decided to cut up a few tags and piece them back together in a different way.

I cut two tags into pieces and covered them in the Voyage Beneath the Sea paper.  I then used the beautiful gold embossing paste and the flourish stencil to create a Seaweed inspired background. While the embossing powder was wet I sprinkled it with gold glitter.

Then I wanted to create a steampunk touch so I punched holes in the different pieces to link them together.  I then used gold ink to ink up the jump rings to make them gold. I used versamark to cover my chain which I embossed with gold embossing powder.

The images on the paper are so fun and funkie. I decided to take the steampunk mermaid and give her a seaweed inspired skirt.
If you look closely you can see the seaweed are the new wildflower dies cut from the same Graphic 45 paper. I cut a series of the flowers and then added glitter around the edges. I layered them over the skirt.  I also hid a trio of sea-horses on my tag.

I added the beautiful sentiment from the paper with a gold glittery edge to the background.

Don't forget to play along with us!  The winner will earn the chance of a Guest DT spot over at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team, because choosing just one winner is so hard!

Thanks for stopping by!

Sea Horses

There is just something about sea-horses.  After seeing all the pretty sea-horses out in blog land I ordered the die and got busy cutting a bunch of them out.

I also had a new stencil from Memory Box that I love because it is a mix of stars and circles. I decided to use that with orange dye ink on my sea-horses.  I then created a mixed media background to put them on with a mix of mists and embossing paste.

The sea-weed is a pretty die from Memory Box misted with yellow and green and just a touch of mica flakes in the background.

Have a great Tuesday!
