German Shepard

Hi!  I am back with a new photo stamp called German Shepard from Darkroom Door.

I loved the intelligence in the eyes of this Shepard and I decided to highlight them with a fun light blue accent.

She also got the royal treatment with a crown made of butterflies!  I tried to put one on her nose but it didn't show off her beautiful features.

I added a bit of clear embossing on the butterflies to make them shine a little bit.  The dog is stamped in brown archival ink and I cut her out and added a touch of watercolor pencils to shade her fur.

The background is a stencil with a mix of brown and blue dye inks.

Back to Nature

Hi!  Welcome back to the blog!  I have been busy playing with flowers!  The current challenge at Frilly and Funkie is hosted by the talented Sara Emily and she has asked us to be inspired by nature!

The challenge as described by Sara Emily:

"Having just returned from our annual trek to the mountains of West Virginia where we observed so much natural beauty on our hikes, I couldn't help but make my challenge nature themed. You can make anything you like, from a card or tag to altered art, just be sure to include a natural element in your vintage or shabby chic project. Think real twigs, leaves, shells, pebbles. Or you could include a die cut or a stamped or stenciled image representing a natural object."

This had me thinking about all the flowers in our yard during the summer.  I ran out and started gathering them.

I shared the whole process behind the pressing of the flowers on the Frilly and Funkie blog on Saturday and this was one of the results of those experiments.

I saw this beautiful sheet of rose petals on pinterest.  That had me thinking what if I pressed a sheet of roses?  Well this is what happened:

First I set the flowers up like this in a folded piece of cardstock:

After I ran it through the big shot it looked like this when I opened it up:

And after I moved them around and ran it through a few times this is what I ended up with:

It wasn't what I had expected but I used it as a background and created my card:

I stamped over the background with a background stamp about roses.  I then created my butterflies and guess what their bodies are made of..... I used some dried lavender. The moths around here have such fuzzy bodies it just reminded me of them!

I hope this has you thinking of how you can incorporate nature into your art!  Come join us in the challenge!

The winner will earn the chance to be a Guest Designer here at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. We are also awarding Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team, because we can't pick just one favorite!

B Happy

B Happy!  The new challenge at Frilly and Funkie is "B Happy"  hosted by the talented Cec.

She describes the challenge:

"Create a shabby chic or vintage project that makes you happy and features birds, bees and/or butterflies. You must use at least one of these things with wings and it must have a place of prominence on your creation but if you wish to use two or more, please feel free to do that."

Butterflies? Bees? Birds?  What a wonderful set of choices to be inspired by!

I didn't have to go far to start this project. I decided to take the sizzix layered butterfly and folded over white cardstock to create a card base.  I laid the folded edge just short of the top of the wings and run the card through the die cutting machine.

This gave me a card in the shape of a butterfly. I repeated this about 10 times and cut some extra butterflies for extra fun.

Then I just had fun layering different stamps, embellishments and inks onto the cards.

I stamped on some and stenciled on others.  I also cut out a paper doll to fit on the front of the butterfly card front.

I pulled out some of my older retired stamps that I love and used them to ink up and decorate my butterflies.

Some like this one was stenciled and set aside to dry.  After it dried it came back to be stamped and inked up.

I tried for a masculine butterfly by using the lines and numbers in a nice cobalt blue ink.

This one used a mix of gold embossing paste and a gold crackle finish. I added a layer of the opal magic which is such a pretty shimmery color.

Jenny has been using the wallpaper on her cards and had me thinking about using it on my butterflies so two more butterflies were created using the wallpaper with a nice whitewash.

Finally what fun it would be to have a card with a multi wing butterfly. So this butterfly was stamped twice and attached together.

I added a touch of mica flakes and baubles that were sponged with a touch of alcohol ink.
