This Charming House

The Boy and I have chosen some new coffee mugs.  Finding something HUGE enough has been a challenge, especially coupled with my very specific mug requirements....

Don't even ask.  I even annoy myself with it.

We decided on these graphic print mugs from Crate and Barrel (big surprise, I know).  They huge (13.5 ounces), made of porcelain (one of my requirements), cheap ($3.95 each) and they come in various, graphic black and white prints (we got two of each).

How perfect is that?

I will also tell you that in addition to his many charms, The Boy has a strict policy of being brutally honest when he hates something house related but otherwise taking an 'anything you want, honey' approach.  Which I find perfectly acceptable....

These are our patio flowers!  The Boy did it for me.  Isn't he marvelously talented?

I think so, too.

I am IN LOVE with the new Libations Bar Cart from my home world, Crate and Barrel.

I have no where to put it, which is an issue.  I mean it has leather wrapped handles and everything....

We got some new art for the master bedroom!

It's No. 1 Abstract Series by Roominiscent.

I'm thinking of re-painting the guest room.

This pale gray is a contender.

Here are a couple of quick house updates:

The bar continues to grow - complete with a spiffy new silver tray from West Elm and some vintage swizzle sticks from Etsy!  We also got a vintage decanter for the Boy's new 12 year old scotch.

He's thrilled with it!  The scotch and the decanter.

Oh - and he requested the swizzle sticks, which he also loves.

And here's a better shot of the new pink chair - complete with our new little acrylic nesting tables....

I'm not sure I mentioned them before.

Here's a shot:

They're the PeekABoo Nesting Tables from CB2.

I like that they're classic and that they also sort of go away.

So -

The arrival of the pink chair was met with a certain amount of disdain by the men around here.

They both (Finn and the Boy) grudgingly tried it out but I fear they will never love it....

And the upshot is that we had to give them something.....

So they got a bar in the dining room.

I TOLD y'all it was pink!

The new bed is here!

Just in case you can't remember the old room - here's a few 'reminder shots'.....

Basically, the iron bed was too 'country' for the rest of the house and I just didn't like it. The room felt foreign to me.  And although I liked the bedding when I bought it, blue is just not my color.

Also, as you can see from the picture, the unlined curtains added softness to the room but they were really insufficient for light control for daytime naps or for the streetlights outside our windows at night.  I didn't like the idea of my guests being kept awake at night.

And although I loved the lamps (from Crate and Barrel) more than one guest has told me that they are too low for reading in bed at night.   So they had to go.

Fortunately my brother and sister-in-law happily gave the bed, the bedding, the lamps and the drapes a home in their home!

And here we are now:

As you can see the new bed is more in line with the rest of my house but we've kept the family pieces that were originally in the room.

The new bedding is from Pottery Barn along with the new, lined Peyton drapes which totally eliminate most of the light from the street at night.  Both the bedding and the drapes were on sale when I bought them and I used my hoarded up (for the past 4 years) American Express bonus points to pay for them all.

Also, after an exhaustive search for lamps that I both love and want to pay for - I've come up empty.

Ideally, I'd like to find something vintage but since finding two vintage, matching lamps is kind of dicey, I've chosen to use these Target lamps that I already have for now.  They fit the space and they're the right height so until I find something I like better, they're gonna have to do....

I found myself drawn to some very similar (albeit 'nicer' ones) at Home Goods but I couldn't justify spending the money because I didn't love, love, love them and I knew these were in my attic.

The last thing is that we need a pop of color on the bed and I've ordered this little number on Etsy (on sale, too!)

The fabric is 'Hothouse Flower' by Celerie Kemble and I ordered it from Woody Liana's Etsy shop.  I'm hoping it arrives soon!  I fell in love with this a while ago but I wanted to wait until I had the bedding on the bed to pull the trigger on it.  I'm glad I did because this one was significantly cheaper than similar pillows from other sellers - due to the sale.

The new shower curtain is finished!

Along with the newly tiled floor!

Now if I can only get Room and Board to DELIVER MY NEW BED FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE we might get done with this project.

So far, it's slow going.

We're so in love with the powder room right now!

And when I say "we" I really mean "me" but others have been kind enough to pretend that they share in my happy enthusiasm....

Now all that is left to do is re-paint the trim - but that's job for a future weekend.

It's our anniversary today!

Four years ago, we became homeowners!

Happy Birthday, little house.

It's a horrible mess here.....

But the new sink is divine!

Work is underway on the guest bathroom!

The pale blue paint is gone - replaced by Dove White from Benjamin Moore.  You can't tell much about it from this picture, but I'm very happy with it.

Here's a little preview of the new tile.  The linoleum will be outta there and replaced by 3x6 marble tile in Grecian White.......

And here's what 25 square feet of tile looks like - stacked up on the floor of the guest bedroom.

Tomorrow:  New sink, toilet and faucet in the powder room!  I'm giddy.....

The new bedding for the guest bedroom - if the bed ever gets here.....

Pearl embroidered duvet and shams from Pottery Barn in Thyme Green!

Oh!

Look at that!

Hot pink chair!!!

It's on it's way to my sunroom.

I'd like to say it'll be here lickedy split - but no.  Mid March.

Clearly the furniture people don't give a shit about my need for instant gratification....

Now I just have to find a side table to go with it.

From a purely decor porn standpoint, Something's Gotta Give has GOT to be the best movie ever made.

I mean, I really defy you to watch this movie and not be willing to start selling your children and your kidneys to get to live in this house....

I was watching it (again) the other day and became OBSESSED with these place mats.  Suddenly, I needed something like that for Chateau Bee Charmer and I decided to lump that desire into my New Year's Resolution to get stuff in better order around here.

And voila! The Chilewich Graphite placemats from my home world, Crate and Barrel....
LOVE!

I know I blogged about this bed for the guest room a million years ago....

It's the Monica bed from Room and Board.

I may have a few intrepid readers who remember it.

Well, after years of scouring the world for a bed I liked more, I failed to find it.   And after a quick to trip to D.C. in the fall to visit my best friend AND to drop in on the Room and Board store on lovely U Street -  I did it.

It's a special order (the graphite is NOT the stock color) and when I ordered it they told me it would be ready in mid-February!  I was optimistic!  I thought 'surely it will be ready by the beginning of February.....'

No dice.  They emailed me yesterday and now we're looking at the middle of March.

Damn it!  I hate it when a plan falls apart!

I pouted for five minutes and then decided I had to soldier on.  I mean, what else is there to do?

So stay tuned for updates which will include new bedding, new drapes, new lamps and other new stuff in the guest room!

Yay?

I am in love with the Chloe chair from Room and Board.

Love I tell you!

I've ordered a swatch (the color is called 'Blossom') and am thinking of Craigslisting the Barcelona chair in my sunroom and replacing it with this.

I can't think of a girlier thing to have than a hot pink chair in my sunroom.
