Roman Shades: A Tutorial

Step 1: Invite your mom over for the weekend
Step 2:  Mention that you are thinking of making some Roman shades for your bedrooms
Step 3: Let her measure the windows and tell you how much fabric to buy
Step 4: Buy it
Step 5: Let her do all the complicated planning and try to listen as she tells you how to do this or that and what complications you might encounter along the way
Step 6: After she leaves, psyche yourself up for some sewing that you are pretty sure you will not actually be able to do by leaving the fabric in a corner in your bedroom
Step 7: Gladly accept when your mom calls and says she is coming to town next week to help sew the curtains
Step 8: Welcome her into your home again with open arms, and a warm bed, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner served to her on silver platters, and a refill of her favorite cold medicine, and a giant can of peanuts, and two giant cans of coconut oil, and 50 homemade tortillas, or whatever she wants
Step 9: Stand back and watch in amazement as she makes the most complicated curtains you have ever seen.  Offer to help at every turn and do not get upset when she says it would be better if she did this or that part.
Step 10: Let your husband hang them up
Step 11: Finish by having the best night of sleep you have ever had in the darkest room you have ever been in in your life
Step 12: Let your mom know for the rest of your life that you could never have made these curtains without her
