Shorties...

It’s been a rather busy day at work, as I’ve spent a fairly large chunk of it in various meetings. Luckily none of them were a waste of time, which unfortunately isn’t always the case. One negative consequence though; I’ve had very little time to check out any new stuff, so today I’ll have to scan the “back catalogue” and stick to that good-ole “shorties” formula.

Oh No Ono are giving away two recently published remixes. You do however have to register first to get access to the downloads. Don’t I just hate that!

Trying to keep the remix thread alive for a few more seconds. Remixes of two Entakt tracks are free to download (no registration needed) right here.

The Banana Hold-Up is a newly founded club night at Jolene Bar, desperately trying to resuscitate the indiepop scene in Copenhagen”. Yay! Fucking YAY!

Swedish indie collective Napoleon will release their new single Cleopatra on Ruffa Lane Records on October 5. To me it somehow seems like an odd decision to release a single oozing this much of summer deep into autumn.

Danish alternative rockers Green Concorde have decided to call it quits. Not exactly a surprise, but still very sad, as I can't help feeling that they never really reached their full potential.

Various...

I’m still pissed about that cancellation. I know grumping and whining in a blog isn’t comme il faut, but I just can’t help myself! Instead Mushi will be playing at another venue in Helsingoer, so perhaps I should try that one instead?
+ The Nightcrawler

Remember Danish shoegazers Dorias Baracca that I featured last year? 3 new tracks and 1 (what I believe must be a) re-recording is now streaming at Myspace. Plans (or hopes maybe?) are that all 4 tracks will be included on a future EP release. This is noisy, dreamy and still very good!

One of my favorite bands covers another one of my favorites. No idea what I mean? Read this and you’ll (hopefully) understand!

The new single David by The Radio Dept. is absolutely fabulous and thankfully it's business as usual as Labrador is offering it as a free download.

Shorties...

Today has been absolutely awful. Dead tired from a little too much drinking Saturday evening combined with having to meet a reporting deadline at work today. And for a few hours every blog hosted by blogger was stopped by our IT security system, which more or less would have put an end to my blogging career. Whatever caused this has now been changed and things are pretty much back to normal.

Arriving in my mailbox this weekend were albums by Green Concorde, Didium & The Black Bonnie Picture and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Hopefully I’ll soon find the peace and quite needed to give them all the attention they deserve (?)!

One-man project Little Big Adventure has been signed by Labrador and a debut EP named The Hateful Eye will be out May 13.
+ The Hateful Eye

Don’t know how a promo copy of the self-titled Audrye Sessions debut album ended up in my mailbox, but I certainly don’t mind it did. This isn’t earth shattering original in any way, but just good decent indie rock. And you cannot really get enough of that; can you?

Want you to know...

Every blogger probably knows what it feels like finding a song that you cannot wait for the rest of the world to hear? If so, you should completely understand the feeling I’ve had for the past 24 hours since I stumbled upon Broken Satellite by Dennis Mejdal, as I cannot recall the last time I heard a song so truly gorgeous and loveable as this one. No chance that the world will be reading this, but those of you who actually do, make sure you don’t miss out on it. Just don’t!
+ Broken Satellite

Despite being a fairly new constellation, Danish trio The Minor Collective is off to a rapid start. Three new tracks were published yesterday, to go along with the three published less than two months ago. At first I was a bit unimpressed, but these songs just grow for every listen, and this is the kind of stuff I feel certain will work really, really well if/when performed live some day.

The LP edition of the debut album Play Music by Thieves Like Us will be released by amazing indie label Shelflife Records on Tuesday, March 10. I’ve been listening to the album a couple of times today, and I’m still trying to digest what I heard. More dark and electronic than anything I can recall being released on this label, and right now I'm in need of a few more listens before making a verdict. Eardrums has written a fine review.

This and that...

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, the new and final Oliver North Boy Choir EP Blackmail will be out February 22. As a small appetizer the band has decided to give away a so-called “synth version” of the lead track.
+ Blackmail (2nd version)

Danish electro-pop/rock act Volvoe has been awfully quiet for a long time, but news is that the recording of an album is progressing. Slowly, but progressing! The band’s 2007 EP Organized Faults was (and still is) a true, but sadly overlooked, gem.

1st single Miami off the forthcoming Green Concorde album Down The Corridor To The Exit Through The Gates Out Into Safety can now be streamed at Myspace. Does sound a little too much like previous stuff by the band, and I do think that Flowers Of Romance, which was the first track published off the album, is more interesting and better.
+ Flowers of Romance

Spinning off my post earlier today, one of my best and real-life friends hits 40 today. No party’s planned, so he’ll drop by for pizza and beers tonight. Unfortunately we cannot go out for pizza and beers, as I’ll have to stay home looking after the kids, because my wife is going to a…you guessed it…birthday party. Don’t know what is so special about February 6, but it seems like May is or was a great month for conceiving? My present for him will be a ticket for the White Lies concert as well as the band’s debut album.

Green Concorde remix...

Just a quick one, as time is sparse today. Bjarke Niemann of Spleen United has remixed the Green Concorde track Detroit, which the band is giving away for free. Still impatiently waiting for news on the release date of the band's sophomore album. UPDATE: According to Gaffa the album will be released late March/early April.

On a Green Concorde...

It’s been a while since we last heard anything from the four lads in Danish alternative rock band Green Concorde and I’m probably not alone in my wait for a follow up to the (early) 2007 debut Ten Cities. Still there is no news on how the work is progressing or whether it’s actually moving forward at all, but the first song recorded for the album Flowers of Romance (originally posted for streaming in January) is now available to download for free at Myspace. In my opinion it’s among their finest efforts so far, so I strongly recommend that you grab it right away. And while you’re already busy “right-clicking”, why not check out the recently published live version of Catch and Turn (the stand out track on the debut album) recorded for Danish P3.....a few more freebies have been added.

Update (from a Myspace blog post): "We are recording new songs in Safelandings Studios in Ă…rhus with Ole Gundahl. Everything is going as planned and we are pleased to pieces. Today Rune Wehner from Spleen United is visiting us with his Korg, contributing with some dark synth ..ed bits. Then only the recording of Mortens vocal remain.

The tracks will, together with Flowers Of Romance, be featured on a forthcoming release, which we speak of as "Down The Corridor, To The Exit, Through The Gates, Out Into Safety".

The track list looks a little something like this:

Silence and Glass
Silvercoated Buildings
Arrows on Fire
Miami
Flowers of Romance
Planet WWX
Death
[Untitled]

Listening to these songs it's evident that a lot has happened since the recordings of Ten Cities back in 2006. It's still Green Concorde. But it's different."

Shorties...

My body means serious business and it just won't let me forget my age. My back is still a painful mess!

I have too many CD’s - plain and simple. I spent half an hour last night searching for Godspeed Into The Mainstream, and although I found lots of CD's I had forgotten all about, I never did find that Spleen United debut. Perhaps the girls have swapped it for a pair of candy bags? Don’t forget that the sophomore album Neanderthal will be out later this month!

The morning started with some seriously bad news. J.A. mailed the info that Danish The Smiths’ inspired quintet The Cupids has decided to split up, even though a single release seemed to be just around the corner.

Flowers of Romance is the title of a brand new track by Green Concorde and it's arguably their best track to date. Stream only.

Green Concorde Remix...

The track We Set Sail By The Way We Feel from the Green Concorde debut album Ten Cities has been remixed by EloPhonic. Somehow the music of this band always sounds absolutely fantastic when it is being remixed. My favorite (so far) among the mixes remains the fabulous version of This Time done by tWAMi, which has been featured in the blog several time before. Two more remixes for download can be found here.

Two quick ones...

I'm very very busy today, so I have no time to write anything. But here are two really great ones and hopefully I'll be able to add a few comments later:

+ Warm Morning - Behind The Curtain
+ Michael - Today Will Be The Same

And if you have a couple of minutes I hope that you'll vote for 2:26 by Green Concorde and help the band make Tjeklisten (vote here).

Another busy day!!

I have another hectic one ahead of me, so I won't have much time for posting anything. But I thought I'd share these with you.

Celestial's debut album Dream On will be released on Skipping Stones Records this spring and the title track has been made available as a free download by the label as a (let's call it) "appetizer". Highly anticipated.

Friday evening.......

The closing track Catch and Turn of the Green Concorde debut (Ten Cities) has been pumping on my stereo tonight, and since the band has granted me permission to post a track of the album in the blog, there really is no doubt in my head that this superb piece shall be the one. It's an epic/majestic track; sounding like something you'd expect to find exactly in-between Interpol and the shoegaze classics. Not sure if that description is any good, but the track is definitely worth a "right click" and 5 minutes of your time.
+ Catch and Turn

Thanks to Fadeaway (go make him your friend!) I've been streaming Italian shoegazers Murnau a few times recently over at Myspace. It doesn't really matter that they are singing in Italian, because the music is awesome (especially Organico). I'm still hoping that they'll send me a few tracks to post.
+ Goccia (no language barriers here, as this one is an instrumental)

Celestial is releasing a 3 track single on Florida label Cloudberry Records on February 1. The "a-side" can be streamed at the label's Myspace profile and it's an up-tempo piece with lots of guitars and sounding absolutely gorgeous. The more calm and quiet "b-side" Hope, You Know is already a free download from Cloudberry Records webpage.
+ Hope, You Know

One band with a kick-ass attitude is Edison Jr from Copenhagen. On the band's Myspace profile it says: "Many artists today seem to be focusing on the wrong things - mainly fame and fortune. That's ***** crap! They should be looking at what's really important.... The music (if you hadn't guessed it). Real music with real feelings can move people - which is what real music is all about." And of course all 3 tracks posted by the band (this is indie/pop/lo-fi kind of stuff) are free to download if you like!
+ House in Brooklyn

Tinkerbell is one happy camper these days!

J.A. recommends Swedish band The Confusions and it's quite peculiar, because I actually visited the band's Myspace profile the other night, without listening to the band (why I decided not to, I cannot remember). Now I have and this is pretty decent alternative/indie stuff inspired by the likes of New Order, Smashing Pumpkins etc. Several tracks are available for free and especially Artificial from the 2006 album 5 am is worth checking out!

Help needed!

Help Green Concorde to reach the Danish Radio chart - Tjeklisten, by voting for The Anthem To Which We Fall. Just follow these two (really easy) steps:

1. Check the list (Ugens liste) and pick your 5 favorite tracks.
2. Write your 5 favorites and your name/address in a mail and send it to tjeklisten@dr.dk

Deadline is Tuesday, 2 PM (CET).

I admit that it was really difficult finding 5 songs worth voting for, but despite that I hope that you'll give the "Concorde boys" a helping hand.

This and that on a Thursday.......

I've just pre-ordered a copy of the forthcoming album Before We Could Sing by Ether Aura (released February 17). Stream tracks of the album over at the band's Myspace profile.

A few other albums I'm looking forward to are:
Entakt - Træerne vokser ind i himlen (January 8)
Green Concorde - Ten Cities (January 15 or 22)
The Kissaway Trail - The Kissaway Trail (January 22)

My current favorite song is the fab new single by Puressence called Palisades. If you haven't listened to it yet, you really should, but so far I haven't been able to find anywhere to stream it or watch the video. Can anyone help??

Snowden has uploaded the album track Sisters to their Myspace profile, urging everyone to download and share it.
+ Sisters

Thanks to Falk/Darkerradio (don't know what he prefers) for recommending Canadian indie pop/rock band Red Orkestra. This Ontario based band is definitely inspired by the British music scene listing bands like The Manics, The Smiths, Suede etc. among the influences, though I do hear a lot of Budapest, Embrace, Haven and even Coldplay inspiration in the music. A total of 7 tracks are generously available from either the band's webpage or Last.fm, and all of the songs are pretty nice and catchy. Even though some might claim that this is not the most groundbreaking/innovative band you'll ever listen to, the songs are certainly worth a spin (or two).

No more talk about Christmas!

The Anthem To Which We Fall by Green Concorde has been tested on MTV Fahrenheit. Do me (and the band) a favor and vote for the boys. If you need to check out the song or video before voting, you can do it here.

The Last.fm Free Downloads Chart has been updated. Cannot spot any new interesting entries, but the new no. 1 is....
+ Okkervil River - Black

Speaking of Last.fm. FALK has sent me two recommendations. One is the 5 track Anger Manifest EP by German Gothic-pop-rock/Darkwave duo All:My:Faults. This still isn't my favorite genre, but I cannot deny that I like this!
+ Forget Me...
+ Sand of Time

The second band he recommends is Finnish electronic pop duo Viola. I'm already quite familiar with Viola and their catchy tunes, so I'll pass on his recommendation to "the rest of the world"!
+ Lovelights
+ Sad Eyed Disco Dancers

Download a 10 track compilation (for free) called Electronica Unplugged over at Aerotone. I really enjoy the fact that more and more labels are giving away music for free. But I cannot help wondering how they survive financially?
+ Leander - Directions

Acoustic duo Austin Atteberry & Friends from Chicago has sent me a message, asking if I would like to receive a copy of their second album. The songs available are (I believe) from the debut, but since they do sound pretty fine, I replied with a "thank you" and asked them to send me a copy. I will write more once I've received the album.
+ Party Tonight
+ Letter of Three Words

I promised no more talk about Christmas, but I just came across this Christmas (inspired?) tune by Gothenburg duo The Lost Homeboys. The vocals could easily be a lot better, but it's very indie, rather catchy and full of seasonal atmosphere.
+ A letter from us

I plan to post my list of favorite songs of the year tonight.

Anthem of the Concorde

I received an email yesterday from Danish quartet Green Concorde asking me if I'd be interested in posting the single The Anthem To Which We Fall in the blog. Some of you might recall that the band left a really positive impression when I saw them warming up for Spleen United in March, so ever since I read that the band has been signed to a label, I've been looking forward to the band's debut album. So needless to say I'm nothing but thrilled to be able to post the track. The single was released in September this year and so far it has only (?) been available in a digital format. The debut album will be called Ten Cities and expected date of release is January 22 next year. The Anthem is a highly energetic alternative rock tune with the expected noise-rock elements and the distinguishing voice of lead singer Morten Dam. You should be warned that this is not as immediate as some of the stuff I normally post in the blog and it might require some work getting into. But in my opinion it's worth the effort, because the single is absolutely grand and has certainly helped to increase my expectations for the album...

tWAMi meets Green Concorde...

tWAMi has remixed the track This Time by Danish alternative rock band Green Concorde and the new version is available for free from his re-designed webpage. I'm not at all familiar with the original version of the song, but I suspect that lots of synths and drums/beats (?) have been added to make it a bit more danceable. Anyway this is a fantastic and utterly catchy track, which hopefully will give both acts involved the attention they both fully deserve!!

Spleen United/Green Concorde

The Spleen United concert Friday evening was fabulous. That's really all there is to say. The concert was rather short, but that aside everything (the music, the sound, the atmosphere, the light show, the new song etc.) was simply perfect. If Spleen United ever plays anywhere near you be sure that you go to see them. The next release (probably a few years away) could be really interesting, because these guys are aiming for the stars!

The supporting band Green Concorde was a huge and pleasant surprise with their music, which I'll describe as a mix of alternative and noise-rock. A while back I downloaded a few songs by them and I wasn't overly impressed, but that certainly changed Friday evening! Maybe because this kind of music works very well live? I talked briefly to the lead singer (seems to be a very nice and humble guy) after the concert and he informed me that the band has been recording more songs and an album should/will be released later this year!
