Today we get to welcome our March Guest Designer: Jessica Shurts!

Hello, my name is Jessica Shurts. I live in Minnesota with my husband and 5 kids ages 16, 14, 12, 10, and 4 1/2. I started scrapbooking when I was in high school. Between cooking meals and driving my kids to all their activities (lots of soccer and dance), I love using fun papers and products to tell my family's stories and using my Cricut to make unique embellishments and titles for my layouts. I love Stick It Down sketches as a starting point for my layouts and cards. I use the double-page sketches for my month-in-review layouts. This month's sketch was used for April 2022.

You can see more of my work on my blog, Create and Share.

Jessica is one of our avid double-page followers, so it's no surprise that she decided to use the double-page sketch to create her layout!

February Guest Designer: Alicia O'Bryant

Today we get to welcome our February Guest Designer: Alicia O'Bryant!

Hi I am Alicia O'Bryant.  I am so excited to be a guest designer for Stick It Down this month.  I live in Cincinnati, OH. I have been married to my husband for almost 10 years.  I have one grown son and one fur baby.  I have been scrapping since just before my son was born over 20 years ago. The craft has evolved so much since I began.  Like a lot of crafters, I am a hoarder and it gives me such pleasure to use up all that old product mixed with the latest trends.  I also make cards which increases the amount of different techniques I employ in my crafting. Die cutting and paper piecing are favorites.  I am currently learning to master coloring with alcohol markers.  Besides crafting, my husband and I love to travel and go to concerts.  We go on an annual trip to Jamaica to see our favorite band with some of our best friends which I have featured in today's project.  I used all solid cardstock paired with some interesting ephemera including tickets, bingo markers and crinkle ribbon.  I hope it inspires you to scrap your good memories.

You can find more of Alicia's work at these places:

Alicia decided to use our single-page sketch this month and created a layout about her time in Jamaica. Looks like a fun night! You can view her post here

September Guest Designer

Welcome to Barbara, our Guest Designer for the month of September!

Hi, I'm Barbara Greenburg from Columbia, Missouri. I was so pleased to have been asked to be a guest designer this month here at Stick It Down. I’ve been scrapping since 2008 when I got an album and supplies from my daughter for a gift. Once I started it didn’t take long till I was hooked. It is rare for me to miss a day of scrapping, unless I’m out on a favorite road trip, I’m home scrapping. It’s my passion. My husband and I have been married 17 years and we each have two grown kids. And between us we have 8 grandkids. So I always have plenty of pictures from them to scrap. And with my love of road trips so I have made many travel albums. My other favorite thing to scrap is Christmas. I keep all those albums chronologically starting back in 1951, the year I was born.

Here's Barb's beautiful layout:

Didn't she do a great job?! We hope you play along with us this September!

May Guest Designer--Amy Jo!

It's time to highlight our guest designer for the month of May--Amy Jo! Let's check out her fabulous layout and learn a little more about her:

Hi there! I'm Amy Jo and I live with my husband and 10-year-old daughter in Arvada, Colorado (but am originally from Minnesota). I earned my BA in Secondary Education with an emphasis in mathematics at ASU and went on to teach high school math for 6 years. In 2008 I moved to Denver, changed careers, and started coaching dancers full time in the NBA. My passion for scrapbooking started when I was in elementary school but really took off when my twin nieces were born in 2004. Family gatherings are still my favorite things to document, but I also love showcasing highlights from my NBA career. I discovered the online scrapbooking community during the pandemic and have thoroughly enjoyed "meeting" and being inspired by so many scrappers from across the country. Thank you for allowing me to contribute as a guest designer on StickIt Down.com this month; I am so grateful for the opportunity!

Thanks Amy Jo! We are so glad you joined us in designing this month.

Do you want to try your hand at designing? Join our challenge this month and we'll announce our next Guest Designer the first of June!

Hello, my name is Jessica Shurts. I live in Minnesota with my husband and 5 kids ages 15, 13, 11, 9, and 3. I started scrapbooking when I was in high school. I love using fun papers and products to tell my family's stories. I love using my Cricut to make unique embellishments and titles for my layouts. Several years ago, I decided to make monthly recap layouts and use one page for a calendar hanging in our house. I have been using Stick It Down two page sketches for most of that time because they are so great and have a nice variety of designs. I used this month's sketch to create my March 2021 layout. You can see more of my work on my blog: Create and Share.

Here's what Jessica created based off our double page sketch:

January Guest Designer---Phillis!

You can find more of Phillis' work on her scrapbook blog: Just find time to scrapHello, my name is Phillis Walrath.  I am from upstate NY and by upstate I mean right next to the border.  I live 1 hour south of Montreal, Canada.  I began scrapbooking when my kids were small, maybe about 20 years ago.   I have never looked back.  I love working with sketches  to tell the story of what my photo is about.  My go to embellishment lately are thread, string, or ribbon and buttons.  I mostly scrap chronologically.  I have many books filled with pages of my daughter, age 23 and my son, age 25.  They each have their own collection of books.  I often make 2 pages of the same event so that each can have the page in their own book.

Phillis decided to play along with our single page sketch this month and added some fun mixed media elements! Here's what she came up with:

We hope you too will decide to play along with our challenges this month and then maybe you will get to be our next featured Guest Designer! Have a wonderful new year everyone!

December Guest Designer --- Brandi!

Hi! I’m Brandi! I am a stay-at-home mama to 2 little boys, my oldest turns 3 this month and the baby is 1! I have been scrapbooking since I was practically a baby myself, around 10 years old, when my aunt introduced me to 8.5x11 albums as a place to store all of my Girl Scouting memories. My style has changed a lot over the years and I only did double page layouts for years, but very recently have found a love for single pages. My current favorite part of the process is selecting papers & a color scheme for my photos and using a sketch to make the magic happen. I found Stick it Down just 2 months ago and am loving the sketches so far!

For this months sketch, I was inspired by the mixed media background and chose to use a pre-made piece from Vicki Boutin. I modified the large outline circles to be on-theme with my photos & used my Cricut to create the sunshine & ocean waves. Thanks for the opportunity to be a guest designer this month!

Thanks so much Brandi for your fun sketch!
We hope you feel inspired to play along this month too! Join us for either our double page, single page or card challenge for your chance to win and become our next Guest Designer!

November guest designer... Laurie!

I'm a Midwest girl living on the East Coast, and I've been scrapbooking since high school. There's something so satisfying about taking pictures and accenting them with paper, sequins, stickers, and more! I love sharing my creations on my blog and YouTube channel.

For this layout, I was inspired by the hearts on the original sketch. I wanted to do something mixed media-ish on my own layout, and because the photo I was using had bubbles in it, I sprayed bubble wrap with misting spray and pressed it against the white cardstock. I liked how the patterned paper pieces were cut into banners, but I decided to just tear the bottoms of the paper. This ended up being a great way to use up items from my stash, including collections that didn't necessarily go together. But that's my favorite way to create - mix and match!

There is a process video for this layout HERE.

November guest designer... Donna!

Hello all, My name is Donna Coughlin and I live outside of Reading, PA with my husband and my youngest son who is going to college right now, so we are almost empty nesters! I have four other children and 11 grandchildren, so I always have plenty to scrap. I have been scrapbooking since 2012 after a Disney vacation. Which as you can tell is my favorite thing to scrap. I have been a various design teams throughout the years, but have stopped that for the time being because I want to just relax and scrap at my leisure.

For the sketch I decided to move the banner over to the other page, because of the number and size of pictures I used and it looked better to me. I always save park maps, receipts, etc from our trip ( I don't know why!), so I added a real simple pocket by carefully gluing around the sides and bottom of the paper I added on the left hand side. The journaling card had glitter on it, so to bling up the layout a little more I added glitter glue to the title and the word Boo on the banner. The wood zig zag pieces I used purple glitter paint.

You can catch Donna on her blog, Villians,

October guest designer... Phillis!

Hi, My name is Phillis Walrath.  I am a retired school librarian and I live in upstate NY, right next to the Canadian border, with my husband of 26 years and my 23 year old daughter.  I have a married son who is 25 years old and has a Rottweiler.  I began scrapbooking about 20 years ago so I could create books for my kids.  I love putting paper together with embellishments to create a memory.  I began making cards when my friend started selling Stampin' Up.  I love how special each card was.  I now make all my cards for all occasions.  I have not sent out a store bought card in many years.

I was inspired by the 1 circle on the sketch.  I used  many rectangles for the base of my card.  I added the shiny ribbon and the 1 sequin to add some glam.  I try to keep my cards pretty flat so I can easily mail them.

You can see Phillis on her BLOG and  FACEBOOK. She also has a gallery HERE and HERE.

July guest designer... Yvonne!

Hello there! Greetings from sunny Singapore!

For this month's sketch, I decided to do a layout on the food I made for my family in June. I simplified the original sketch by using 2 of the same base papers for the spread because I have a lot of food photos. Instead of using 9 photos for the grid on the entire page, I went with 3 blocks of 4 photos each in the center...and used the rest of the space for embellishments. I tried to repeat elements on both the pages for a cohesive look.

If you like to see more of my work, you can check out my blog Do More With Less (where I share upcycled crafts, layouts, cards, mixed media projects).

June guest designer... Wenche!

My name is Wenche, 53 year of age, living with my family in Norway. I started with this awesome hobby in 2008 and my favourite part is coloring. So I usually have a colored image on my cards.
I use different coloring mediums, but I really enjoy my Prismacolor Pencils on kraft cardstock. When making cards I like to use sketches so I don't have to think too much about the layout.

Before I start working with a card I always flip and turn the sketch to be able to find the option that "speaks" to me. After that I will decide which image I will use. Before coloring I will find the design paper so that I can get the coloring right. That can be a challenge sometimes.

If I don't find the right colors in the coloring medium I want to use, I can either change the design papers or change the coloring medium. I color with Prismacolor Premier pencils, Promarkers or with Zig markers/Distress Ink and today I have used Prismacolor.  I like to have all elements in place but not necessary the in the same size and shape.

You can find Wenche on her BLOG or Instagram.

June guest designer... Caroline!

My name is Caroline Rundby and I 'm from Sweden. I started scrapbooking long before I knew it was called scrapbooking! In 2004 we adopted one of our sons from South Africa and I took a class in scrapbooking when we were back in Sweden and I decided to make an album from our trip to South Africa. And I still love my  time in my scraproom. Now when the kids are older I tend to scrapbook more photos of me and my husband! I love to make my own backgrounds with distress inks.

I did two takes on the sketch, I felt so inspired. On the first one I flipped the sketch a quarter, because I had a really long photo from our trip to London that I wanted to scrap. My title is Jag och mina stjärnor,  Me and my stars. The stars are my kids! I used:
Paper: White cardstock, Maja Design Vintage romance Love Story, Monochromes Shades of Miles
Alphabet: Aquarius from QK, letter stamps from Studio Calico
Black pen
The stars are from my stack.

My second page!Min sommar, My summer. I love to scrapbook in bright colours like yellow! I took photos from last summer when my husband and I went to the beach on our bikes. We had a great day and I loved to save the memories of that special day. I made a background with Distress Inks Marmalade and Mustard Seed. I love to blend them and using my old stencils to  make backgrounds. I used:
White cardstock, alphbet Aquarius QK, the bike is from Planner Essentials dies, the arrow is from tools die cut & stamps, nuvo Crystal Drops Ebony black, stickles Twinkle and a black pen. The flower and butterflies are from my stack.

You can find me on Instagram here: carolines_scraproom I hope I will see you there!

June guest designer... Lisa!

I have been scrapping since 2003 when I created a scrapbook for my grandfather's 90th birthday and never stopped after that!  I live outside of Dallas on a farm with 11 goats, 45+ chickens, 2 donkeys, and 50+ guinea hens, plus our dogs and cat, so chaos rules especially since both my husband and I have full time jobs (the farm is a hobby).  The only calm element in our life is my DD who will be a senior at the University of Pittsburgh.  I no longer maintain a blog but am very active over at A Cherry on Top and really enjoy sketch challenges like Stick It Down.

I love double page sketches for travel photos and the grid design of this one was perfect to document a visit to the Guiness brewery in Dublin.  I admit, though, that the layout went through several versions before I was happy.  I began with darker papers and smaller squares but it was very busy so I went with larger squares and changed some to have more white space.  I have a philosophy that when using sketches or scraplifting someone that there is no reason to take things literally - use it as inspiration and a starting point, then adapt it for your style and situation.

Another scrapping philosophy I have adopted in recent years is that not every photo you scrap has to be yours.  In the case of this layout, some of the photos are from Google Images.  When I gathered my photos from the trip I realized I had a lot less than I thought as it was back in the day of true film so I was much more conservative with the shots I took.   So I supplemented my photos with photos from the web.  After all, I did see everything in the images and it is the memories I am scrapping, not my personal photographic abilities :-)
