Rolling In

It's a bit unusual to have this kind of weather in the Sunshine State this time of year, but once in awhile it happens.  A late afternoon cold front was pushing in when I snapped this photo at Bunche Beach in Ft. Myers recently.   I like the moodiness of the scene with the sea fog rolling in, the birds flying and the helicopter zooming toward the squall. Occasionally, it's nice to have a day like this to shoot.  It's something different plus the beaches are empty.  By the way, that tall bridge goes to Sanibel.

Wadin' & Waddlin'

That's Wadin' on the left...Waddlin' on the right. I spotted 'em mid-afternoon in the blazing hot sun. Two sandpipers who, I guess, needed to leave their problems behind and cool off.

How Hot Is It?

Well, this is something I've never seen before: an osprey standing on a sandbar cooling its talons. That's how hot it is! Typically, ospreys like to roost up high where they have a great view of fish and small prey. But, this guy sacrificed his hunting time for a cool down. That's one hot bird.

Creepy Crabs

I was strolling along the beach yesterday looking for seabirds to shoot (with my camera, of course), when I heard leaves rustling as I walked by a tree. Correction: I thought it was the sound of leaves rustling. Much to my surprise, the sound was coming from hundreds (if not thousands) of little crabs as they scurried over the sand and seaweed away from my feet. To see that many crabs, scooting sideways --- some of them with their itty bitty claws defensively positioned in front of their little eyes --- is a little creepy. They were still at it when I walked by on my return trip: whooosh....whoosh. ((creepy))
