Hoot hoot..

Hej hej! The other day I came across this tablescape over at the gorgeous 'DustyLu Interiors' blog, and let me just say that those little owls had me at first 'hoot'! Just look at those eye lashes!! :)

The tablescape was designed by DustyLu for Thanksgiving, but I think that it could work just as well for Christmas. It feels fresh and light, yet festive and fun. Perfect for a lighthearted Christmas lunch with good friends don't you think!?!

You could just add a small twig of pine or rosemary to the napkin ornament et voilà, Christmas is served!

Have a fab rest of the week lovelies and good luck with all your final preparations!

Entertain in neon..

Have a recent fetish for neon.. hence fell hard for this bright and cute kids' party theme.

When I showed Isabella these pictures she told me I wasn't allowed to use her plastic animals..! She did the same thing earlier this year when I showed her THIS.. and THIS..! :)

Happy rest of the weekend my dears.
Hope you are enjoying a marvelous one!

Terribly Swedish and Royal tablescape by IKEA..

When Sweden slips into Summer the whole country is transformed. Everyone celebrates the knowledge that for a few weeks, life will be easy, full of sunshine (well at least 'light'..) and carelessly fun. IKEA will capture this through a series of table scapes and event inspiration over the coming weeks.

This very first one is referred to as 'Royal Celebration' and is the real-life dinner setting that was styled & designed by IKEA decorators for the newly wed Swedish Crown Princess and her Prince charming Daniel. Hasn't IKEA come a long way since the days of 'pure rational and practical solutions' people!?! I love it!

Simple and fresh, with warmth added by the timber clad walls and personal blanket for each guest. I love it when party hosts supply blankets, because despite the famous 'white & light nights' of Swedish Summer the temperature drops quite a bit.. The equivalent here in Australia, would be offering a fan.. :)

Each table is decorated with layers of freshly cut twigs of 'Pear blossom' from 'Wij Gardens' (styled by local gardener Lars Krantz). The Swedish pear trees only blossom for one single week a year, making them extra special.
With the addition of some scattered lanterns, a Swedish Summer's table doesn't really need more than that - even it it is meant for Royals..!

'Mochatini's Little Book of Holiday Inspiration' by Manvi Drona Hidalgo..

How on Earth you can call an 82 page masterpiece a 'LITTLE book' is beyond me, because in my eyes it is HUGE!! This incredible (!!) creation was made by my dear and wonderful friend Manvi who blogs over at Mochatini  - the sweetest (and most stylish!) girl you can meet!

'Mochatini's Little Book of Holiday Inspiration' is not just any kind of book.. It is a tailor-made and exclusive edition that was created from scratch as a 'thank you for a great year'.. Just because this is the kind of person she is. Generous and genuine. xx

The book is copy written, typeset and laid-out by Manvi herself. All the images were styled and photographed by her, and digitally formatted so that everyone from Hawaii to Japan, and the Arctic to Antarctica can cherish it. How incredibly thoughtful and generous isn't that!!?!  It also puts the concept of 'hand made' on a whole new level!!
Manvi, I am overwhelmed with all the work you put into this and appreciate every word, picture and page! xx

As if this wasn't enough there is also a brilliant 'Ten Tips for Holiday Entertaining' guide inside - something that will make you the 'hostess of the mostess' (or a 'host to celebrate & toast'!.!) this festive season!!

Manvi's style is feminine, fresh, and elegant with a glamorous yet modern edge, and her beautiful blog spills over with examples of her fantastic styling and photography works. She has been featured in several publications and those of us who know Manvi are eagerly & lovingly encouraging her to publish a 'coffee-table book' showcasing her table top decor, styling & images. Armed with this holiday book, the publishers will fight to be the first to do so!! Hear me dear friend!!? xx

Thank you again dear Manvi for including me in your beautiful book and for creating such a wonderful Christmas treat for us! It was the best blog thank you I have ever been given!!

Swedish table ware with a Portugese twist..

A few days ago I saw an image over at sweet Kellie Collis' Ada & Darcy that reminded me to post about one of my favourite Swedish table ware companies - 'Mateus'. In fact I  even promised I would post about them in a post I did last year (HERE) ...So here we go..without further delay... :)

The Mateus products are (in my book) the perfect marriage between 'Swedish design' and 'Portugese craftsmanship'. And all pieces are hand made by skilled artisans, giving them a unique and personal touch - both in the slight imperfect clay-work and the colour application.

Apart from the obvious high quality and rustic uniqueness, what I love the most about Mateus are the amazing rich colours, wonderul shapes & textured patterns. They are fun yet elegant, and lend themselves to some playful mix 'n' matching & creativity.

New to me is their 'Shining Collection' and I would love to use this range for a New Years party. They would look wonderful in a mix with some rough untreated wood.. Perhaps set the plates directly on to a table made of rustic reclaimed timber with white table linen, good crystal and lots of candles..? I'd like that contrast.

Though Mateus is a little pricey, they are definitely worth the investment, and I am looking forward to growing my collection when I return to Sweden in 2011. In the meantime, all I can do is to ask you to join me as I drool over the fabulous inspiration on their website..

Great table runner idea..

Am just ducking out from reading wonderful posts over
at 'Anzu' (you will love this blog), and felt I had to share
this great table runner idea that Ellen found via 'Brooklyn Bride'.

Image from 'Brooklyn Bride' via 'Anzu London'

I love the idea of using old photos (read: scans and printouts of..)
as a unique and arty table runner like this. What a great treat to have
old memories scattered on a table like that - imagine the lovely
conversations the pictures will inspire! Would be great for a family
reunion, wedding anniversary or birthday party. Endless uses indeed!

Mixed lovely..

Just going through my numerous files of images that I have
come across and saved. These all come from one that's called
'Mixed Lovely' but I have several in the same genre, like 'Nice',
'Random beauty', 'Like these', 'Eye candy' etc. I you know what
I mean.. :) They are all great but take up a lot of room so I will
try to weed and/or share them with you over the next few weeks.

Please may I also already say that some of them don't have the
original reference - I am so sorry for this and ask that anyone
that may know the source or want to be the source lets me know.

I love hats. In fact I used to have a vintage hat collection in
my very first apartment when I was in my teens. Sadly I had
to part with it when I moved to London at the age of 18.
This picture is so great and makes me think of a home full
of different personalities - all wearing their unique hat. A
great opening shot for a nice story for the kids.. Must remember.

Aren't these wonderful. See the little slots on the top -
almost like you could insert a 'his' and 'hers' tag in each.
I imagine an elderly couple sitting here holding hands,
thinking back on the wonderful years they have shared..
Ahh.. if only.. My linen cabinet is somewhat different..

I love this old work bench. When my mother and step dad sold
our old summer house a couple of years ago an old bench like
this one was given to my stepfathers son. It had been in the family
for generations and he remembered his own grandfather using it
when he made some of the furniture for his parents' home. I would
have loved to give that bench a home - I can see it as a fantastic
hallway console or why not a bathroom bench, like here!?

I love this room. It has the right balance of elegant, rustic
and industry chic. So light and happy somehow.

Would love a guest room like this. Minus the carpet..

We are currently renting a place and have been here a year, almost
to the date. Since we moved in our life has been so chaotic and full
of big events that we never really got a chance to 'nest' properly. Still
we have no pictures hanging on the walls.. They are all stacked in neat
piles around the house just like this - waiting to be hung...

I'd love to sit here and drink that tea!
I have a real thing for cow hides like this one.

Looks like a summer or holiday house to me.
A harmonious place full of wonderful memories and happy times.

Smooth, creamy, tropical and lovely table. Yum!
And don't you love those little silver leaves tied to the napkins
and the fantastic knives - are they bone, antlers or wood?

Can you imagine..!? Now I know that those of you with kids hear
several voices in your head.. :) Let's just agree that this is a room
children would never enter.. It is so totally set up for a romantic weekend..

Are they apple blossoms? I think so and I love them. Actually I love
all twigs and branches and always bring bunches into the house and
divide them into several vases, low and tall, all around the house.

I love using wall paper and wrapping paper rolls in table settings.
Such a great way to create a runner for a special occasion.

Love these. Want these. Think the colour is insane and love how
it flakes and fades here and there. Also love how bow-legged they are.

So there. Now I am 14 lovely images lighter and I am so glad
to have shared them with you my lovelies. Hope you like them too!

Amazing alfresco..

Though it is officially Autumn here in Australia,
the weather continues to be warm and lovely.

 Belle Maison

In contrary to Sydney Summer, it is actually really
pleasant to be outside now and makes it easy and fun
to plan for an array of nice & creative alfresco events.

Creating a table and a beautiful base for a garden party,
birthday brunch or picnic with friends is so enjoyable!
Here is some lovely inspiration for alfresco fun -
