The New Ms. Marvel is Muslim and from Jersey

New Stuff, comic fans!

The new Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, 16, Muslim and from Jersey City. Kamala take on the name of Ms. Marvel once she discovers her shape-shifting powers.

NYT has more on the new character:

No exploding planet, death of a relative or irradiated spider led to Kamala’s creation. Her genesis began more mundanely, in a conversation between Sana Amanat and Steve Wacker, two editors at Marvel. “I was telling him some crazy anecdote about my childhood, growing up as a Muslim-American,” Ms. Amanat said. “He found it hilarious.” Ms. Amanat and Mr. Wacker noted the dearth of female superhero series and, even more so, of comics with cultural specificity.

When they told G. Willow Wilson, an author, comic book writer and convert to Islam, about their idea, she was eager to come on board as the series’ writer. “Any time you do something like this, it is a bit of a risk,” Ms. Wilson said. “You’re trying to bring the audience on board and they are used to seeing something else in the pages of a comic book.”

Kamala, whose family is from Pakistan, has devotedly followed the career of the blond, blue-eyed Carol Danvers, who now goes by Captain Marvel, a name she inherited from a male hero. When Kamala discovers her powers, including the ability to change shape, she takes on the code name Ms. Marvel — what Carol called herself when she began her superhero career.
This is cool

So, Katee Sackhoff and Marvel have been talking about Movies?

Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from BSG) was featured in an interview with the guys from Schmoes Know Movies recently.

Around 32 minutes of this interview, they asked her about the rumored Marvel projects. For those who don't know, Katee is a fan-favorite to be Ms. Marvel. She has also said that she would like to play the role if it was ever offered.

Anywho, this is what she had to said about that:
Um… There’s been some stuff going on. Um… there’s been a lot of checking of availability… I don’t quite know exactly… I don’t know… there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year and then the…
The hosts talk over her, which makes the interview a bit messy, but it seems she has been in talks with Marvel. But is it for Ms. Marvel or something else?

Future Marvel Studios Projects include Ms Marvel and Black Panther

The Hollywood Reporter has some hot Marvel teases for the fans!

According to THR, Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives have begun laying the groundwork for other Marvel movie features.

Besides The Avengers sequels, there are scripts being developed for Ms. Marvel, Black Panther (Yes, Ma'am), Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Blade and The Runaways.

These ideas are super cool! I'm really excited about Ms. Marvel and Black Panther. I wish She-Hulk was in there, oh well, their current list is good enough.

Comic fans, what do you think?
