Hello! It's another hot day here in Texas.
I have never organized my time well enough to get a lot of holiday decor on my website during the actual holiday. Other activities always take my time during those days. So, I thought, THIS IS THE YEAR! I am starting early. I am still in the design process and the ones you see may be a little different by the time they make the website. I AM going to get it done this year!
This little pink tree is sized to sit on a table.
These are the size of Christmas balls so they are perfect for a shabby chic style tree. They are also a nice size to hang from a doorknob any time of the year.
Hope your weekend is going well.

So Shabby Pink - Don't Take Our Freedom for Granted
I hope all have an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. I also hope you will remember those who have died to keep our country free. Let's don't take that freedom for granted.
I love America and am so grateful I can live in this free country.

So Shabby Pink - Sad News - The Eaglet is Sick
On May 15th, I wrote about the greatest Eagle Cam located in the Norfolk VA Botanical Gardens (scroll down a few posts).
On May 19th, a local photographer noticed something growing on the eaglet's beak.
"A growth has been noted on the bill of the eaglet at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. This was first noted by a local photographer and by a researcher from William & Mary CCB on the 16th of May. "

"Eaglet Removed for Care "
"This morning the eaglet was removed from the nest and examined by the Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries wildlife veterinarian. The growth on the left side of the eaglet's bill was sizable, and appeared to have grown over the last few days."

People like me, from all over the world, have been watching this eagle family for quite awhile. Norfolk Botanical Gardens (NBG) kept the cam on as the men went up the tree in a bucket truck as far as it could go. From there, the men climbed to the nest on their own. We watched them remove the eaglet on live cam. They are taking it to an animal rehab facility in Virginia to treat the problem. I know they will treat it with the utmost care. Hopefully, all will go well and when grown, the eaglet may be released in the same area of Norfolk.
The eaglet won't be returning, they have said. The parents will hang around the area for a few days and leave, according to the experts.
I am really going to miss watching these majestic animals - a lot.

So Shabby Pink - A Creative Project Completed
I am always in a state of being productive for other people. The best part is that I absolutely love what I do. After being a nurse for over 20 years, this is truly a dream come true. However, I often have to take time out and make something pretty for our own home.
I just got some new larger soft roses and they are really beautiful . I have had this large canvas mount frame for awhile so I decided to combine them into something lovely for a particular spot on my kitchen wall. It was my first project of the day along with my coffee, of course.
Thanks for stopping by.

So Shabby Pink - Eagle Cam at Norfolk Botanical Gardens
I am a real fan of Live video cams all over the world. Last year, I blogged about some of the ones I found in New York City and some in Alaska. It's just so interesting!
My 91 year old father, who does not own a computer, told me about a pair of Bald Eagles that have made their home in the Norfolk Botanical Gardens . Cameras have been installed to watch the nest 24 hours a day. My father lives in NC and saw it on a neighbor's computer.
I grew up in Virginia Beach and Norfolk so this live cam is rather near to my heart. Sometimes I miss the area. It's really beautiful.
With permission from WVEC TV in Norfolk, VA, I am posting some of the still photos. They post many photos like this from each day. The link to the live cam is at the end of this blog entry.
The people who work the camera will zoom in and out and sometimes even show the surrounding area.
It is free to join and if you do so, you can participate in their live Chat Room.
The eagles successfully hatched one egg this time and the eaglet is growing so much! It is amazing to watch them feed their little offspring. They are such good parents.
I always keep the live cam window open so I can go peek when I think of it. I watched them ride out a dangerous thunderstorm over the weekend. It was really something to see. I couldn't believe I was so concerned for their safety!
If you have kids, they may really enjoy watching.

I hope you all have a nice weekend planned. We are going to enjoy just being at home. That is our favorite place to be.
Thanks for stopping by.

So Shabby Pink - There be tomatoes!
I used to live in the country a long time ago. Remind me to post the picture of horse manure being shoveled into my old garden.....
So, living in the city now creates the challenge of where to plant things! I like growing vegetables the most. I used to grow things just to see what they looked like. Did you know that the okra plant has the most GORGEOUS flower you have ever seen? I envy those of you with big garden space.
Anyway, fresh home grown tomatoes are just the best so I am trying two types this year in big pots on the patio. Look! Little tomatoes already!
We are in south Texas and it's already 90 degrees on some days. Tomatoes like south Texas.
Wow! Aren't they cute?
We have this HUGE Arizona Ash tree in the backyard so sunshine is hard to find. The canopy fills the entire yard. The tomatoes in the big pots are portable so this will work out just fine.
Squirrels. That's the next challenge. I have already bought the chicken wire. I obviously am not growing our own tomatoes to save money. After the plants, the pots, the dirt and the chicken wire, they are definately not money savers, however, they are sure going to taste good!

So Shabby Pink New Website for Scrapbooking and More
It seems like we are still at the beginning of 2008 but I am amazed that we are rapidly approaching the half way mark. How can that be? This year, so far, has been a whirlwind!
In January, I started a new website and have not really told you about it! It is called So Shabby Pink Paper. I have been working with reproduction graphics for a number of years now and finally decided to give them a website of their own. Here are examples of the pretty things you can find there.
I have tried to include most holidays and am always working on more. These are great for gift tags, greeting card making, scrapbooking embellishments, altered art projects and many craft designs. They are not suitable for decopague projects, however, as the ink may run if liquid applied.
I hope you will visit us at http://www.soshabbypinkpaper.com/ and bookmark the site. We also can customize some of our graphics. Just contact us at soshabbypink@satx.rr.com for requests or questions.
Thanks and hope your week is going well,
Peggy
