Mattel Electronics' Horse Race Analyzer

I stumbled across this 1979 handheld device / game / gambling assistant in a flea market a few months ago. Had to share it here for the beautiful graphics. That horse race icon is too perfect.

BRIO catalog, 1985

In December 2009, I posted a BRIO catalog from 1980. I just found another gorgeous catalog of the Swedish wooden toy trains and thought I'd post some of the highlights. Enjoy!

Star Wars promotional designs

I've been a Star Wars fan for as long back as I can remember. The original trilogy shaped a lot of my childhood and creative imagination. There was a great deal of fantastic design work associated with the films and here's a collection of some of it, mostly found online.

Early logo before the more commonly-known yellow on black letters came to be.

Poster for NPR's radio dramatization of Star Wars by illustrator Celia Strain. See more of her work at comicartfans.com

My all-time favorite Star Wars poster, from Israel.

The Italian design is also great. I love the creative liberties taken by the artist.

Incredible comic book ad showing off a ton of Star Wars toys.

And perhaps the most bizarre of all, this poster with C3PO and R2D2 asking parents to make sure their children have been immunized!

Woodn't Count 15

Cool math puzzle lying around the Burlesque office. I believe Wezz picked this one up at an antique store in rural Minnesota. The object of the game is to arrange the numbered tiles so that each row - horizontal, vertical, and diagonal - totals 15. I gave it a quick try and couldn't figure it out. Math nerds STEP UP.

The type and package design here are top ranking. What typeface is this? Type nerds STEP UP.
