Portrait de criminels

Last week I created a Fancy account and I'm already quite addicted to their website and app. You can follow me here: http://www.thefancy.com/Sobinique. I stumbled upon these vintage photos from the Sydney Police museum. I remember seeing before a few years ago but I forgot about them until I saw one passing by on the Fancy website.
The photographs were mainly taken in the cells at Darlinghurst Police Station and the people on them range from drugdealers to prostitutes.
The clothes are just amazing and are mostly three-piece suits and fedora hats for the men and flapper-style dresses and furs for the women. So beautiful and inspiring, I don't know why I forgot about them but can't imagine it would happen again! The book 'City of Shadows: Sydney Police Photographs 1912-1948' is definitely on my wishlist!

Back to the future

I've been gone for quite a while from the blogging world and I even thought I should stop blogging at all.. I think I would really miss it though so I'm gonna try to post some more again. I've never been so busy as I've been lately so I really couldn't find any time for blogging. I'm glad to see I still got some followers! In the future I will post some more about my inspiration starting with the work of Irina Werning who's working on her back to the future project. She's obsessed with old photos and with this project she invites people to get back to their own future by recreating one of their old photos.

Check out her website for more..

Elsevier

I posted about painter Kees van Dongen before. A while ago I did the styling for a shoot inspired by his work. It was for a Dutch magazine called Elsevier and it was photographed by the great Miep Jukkema. Here are the results:

Amsterdam: Made by hand part two

Another shop/atelier we visited on our wander through Amsterdam with Pia Jane. It's called Keramiek van Kempen. This place made me want to create beautiful things myself!

Kees van Dongen

A while ago I did the styling for a fashion shoot inspired by the work of the Dutch painter Kees van Dongen. He loved painting lots of beautiful women in beautiful clothes. I really love the colours he used in his paintings. The shoot I did is gonna be published in a Dutch magazine, I will show you when it's out! There's gonna be an exhibition of his work in Rotterdam in the museum Boijmans van Beuningen in september. I'm definitely gonna visit it!

My big source of inspiration...

When I'm out of inspiration I always take a look in this book by Tim Walker. It was my christmas present from last year and I still love it! His gorgeous pictures, sketches and scrapbooks always make me want to get back to work! He's so creative, I wish I could be his assistant... :)

Thomas Voorn

Thomas Voorn is a Rotterdam based artist, he was my teacher at the academy of arts. He works as a designer and art-directer and I really like his work, esspecially his garment graffiti. It's so simple but I think it looks great! Take a look at his website.

Paul Kooiker

I recently saw this work made by Paul Kooiker. I love these images, esspecially the combination of them all together. They are all really quite intimate but at the same time anonymous. I took a look at his website where I, among other things, found this work wich I think is really cool! :)
