Boo: 2006-2020

I know I don't post here often, but for anyone who ever followed me years ago I thought I would just make a quick post that our old Boo pup had to be put down on December 23rd.

She lived a long, good life  -- 14.5 years!  She spent about half her life with us, but as we started having babies and our house kept getting smaller (ha!)... and she needed a couple of surgeries on her "knees"... she started spending more time with my in-laws who had a one story house.  It was such a blessing for them to have a distraction over the years of my father-in-law's cancer battle.  Once he passed in 2016, Boo was a constant companion to my mother-in-law.  They became the very best of friends.  We visited some, but with Eloise's dog allergies (oddly acquired after Boo moved out of our house), she was always miserable and it had to be limited.

Boo battled cancer off and on for a couple of years.  My mother-in-law opted for Boo to have surgery a couple of times, but at her old age and with the fast-growing mast cell tumors, she finally got to a point where she wasn't eating much and could barely get up to go out (without being completely assisted by a harness).  It was a hard decision for my mother-in-law to have to put her down, but we fully supported it.  We went out for a final visit just before the vet appointment.  It was a pretty emotional time, but it was the right thing to do.

Dogs are not people, but they can still hold a very special place in our hearts.

Boo will always be in our memories. 💕

Boo's Home!

Boo has been home for a number of days in a row...
and Eloise has been loving it! (Me too!)

El has been chasing Boo in her walker...
and we don't think Boo minds too much because she doesn't run too far away!

I love my beautiful babies!

Eloise & Boo

I feel like I haven't had a chance to sit down to the computer to really focus in DAYS. So I apologize, but I am behind on my blog posting... as well as my blog reading!!

If you've been keeping up with my blog for the past month or so, you'll know that my father in law has been battling cancer. He has finished his chemo treatments and will be meeting with his surgeon next week. Over all, I think he has held up like a champ! He has dealt with side effects, but he doesn't seem to let it get him down. In the time that he's been having treatments, etc.... Boo has been spending a lot of time at my in laws house. She is good for moral support and is a great distraction for them - which they definitely need right now. Although we miss her, we get to see her a few times a week... and we know that the need for joy is greater at their house.

Eloise and Boo never really took much interest in each other... and let's face it, I need to give more attention to my 5 month old baby than my 5 year old dog. That's just life.

This past weekend, my in laws brought Boo by to spend a few days at home... and to our amazement... Boo and Eloise LOVE each other!

Ok, so Boo isn't quite as thrilled as El. But it has been fun to watch. Eloise loves to coo and squeal when Boo is around. She loves to touch her and watch her play with her toys.

Boo has been GREAT and doesn't even bother El's toys or anything! And she doesn't snap... not to say that she wouldn't (I know dogs can be unpredictable no matter how much you trust them)... but Boo has been REALLY great.

I love to see "sibling" love! :)

My father in law will most likely be picking Boo up today. It was good to have her home for a bit! Please continue to keep my FIL in prayer as he battles through this horrible disease!!

The Birthday Girl

I hope you like my new blog header and design! I worked on it last night... and then my sister helped me get the header in place today (it was totally off center for some reason!). I was ready for a change... and I think it turned out well!!

Today was my father in law's first chemo treatment. Cory took the day off work so that he could travel 3 hours to the hospital with his parents. He was keeping me updated with texts and calls... and the hospital almost canceled the treatment because they (the hospital) were running so behind! That would've been a major bummer! But luckily, they made it work and so Cory and his parents are running about 4 hours behind schedule. They should be home in the next hour or two.

Since they were gone, I made a trip out to my hometown to help my mom with some household chores (laundry, dishes, etc) since she has been under the weather for the past week or so--then I drove out to my dad's business to clean there. I had the baby... and the ole pup. I didn't want to leave poor Boo at home for hours (without anyone to let her out)... AND today is her birthday!! She is FIVE! I remember when she was just a little baby puppy... so sweet. Although, I must admit... she is still very sweet!

I feel kind of guilty that I wasn't with her much today. I know she is just a dog... but she is an awesome dog! (Totally spoiled!) My in-laws and Cory also felt bad. I mean, Boo is just as much a part of the family as any of us! Maybe we will celebrate another day.

Here she was on the drive home. She laid in the passenger seat with her head on my lap.

She and Eloise were snoring away while I was jamming out to some Carole King (on a tape, no less! HA!).

And yes, I took this picture while I was driving! But it was on a straight stretch on the interstate and I didn't even have to look to see what I was doing... I just kept snapping pics until I got one that wasn't blurry! hehe

So... I would like to take this moment to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best dog in the world! Despite having a baby... Boo will always be our first baby!

Pouty Pooch

Before Eloise was brought into the world... our dog, Boo, was our baby.

She has a basket of toys in the living room that we'd romp around with (mostly Cory, as I don't particularly care to be on the floor), we'd go outside to play ball or take walks. She had the life any dog would want (Ok, except she isn't allowed on the furniture). She was the center of attention and she knew it....

But now...

Not so much.

This is how I found her yesterday afternoon.

She is pretty good with the baby... but she has noticeably become more depressed. Despite our efforts to include her and play with her and let her know she is loved... she just isn't quite the same. She knows that life has changed and she's pretty pouty about it.

I feel bad... but most of our attention has to go to Eloise now.

I am hoping that once the weather warms up,
we can get back outside with her to play and walk.

I miss the happy Boo we once had. :(

Pics of Our Lovies!

I thought I'd share some pictures of our beloved babies today...

However, first I would like to show you another shot of my porch! If you read this post the other day, you'd know that I went on a porch cleaning spree! Man, it's nice to have a clean porch. Aside from the fact that the broom has been relocated for convenience... the porch is actually staying clean! (Ok, so it's only been like 4 or 5 days.. but STILL!) I went out to visit my parents on Thursday and my mom took me to a greenhouse to get some flowers to plant. You can see them along my porch steps, etc. I have a crock of some on the little table too. Quite a few have yet to bloom (and one is a pepper plant for Cory)... but I have high hopes that there will be some color in the near future!!

Earlier, I took two porch pictures... went back in the house and just happened to decide to look at them on the camera... and in BOTH pictures, Boo was licking her lips. HOW I happened to capture that TWICE is beyond me! So we came back out for another shot. She is really hard to take pictures of.... but then I got this one.... (I think it's sweet)....

We always tell her how "Boo-tiful" she is... we're weird, I know. HAHA!

Then... onto Weezer, the cat. I mentioned in an earlier post that I had gotten some new chairs to go around my kitchen table. Well, I haven't gotten around to taking a picture of them to post yet (they were still stacked out of the way until last evening)... however, Cory thought this next picture was hilarious. He made me hurry to get the camera to capture Weezy in "jail". (Brief glance at the new chairs!)

Personally, I think she was trying to protect herself from the dog since Cory so often likes to say "Boo! Get the cat!"... and the dog goes flying in whichever direction she thinks Weezer has headed. (Ok, sometimes I'm guilty of sicking the dog on the cat too... sheesh!)

And last, but not least... Weezer again. I was unable to fall asleep right away... so I came down to the computer to get my Facebook Scrabble fix (totally addicted)... and happened to notice the cat lounging on my coffee table (don't mind the mess in the background. I cleaned the table off only for Cory to pile other stuff on it! LOL!).

It looks like she is crossing her back legs.. but I think that is her tail! She truly is the queen!

Our parents are coming over for a picnic this evening... I'll post more on THAT at a later date! :)

Happy Birthday to BOO!!

Four years ago today... our baby puppy was born!!

She was the only puppy out of about 8 that came and licked me to death the day I went to pick one out. I knew she was the one!!

Daddy's Girl:
(Here she is on Cory's lap going to one of her first vet appointments. She used to be so little and could sit on our lap in the car! Now she is so big, she takes up the whole seat on her own!)

Boo and I had our ups and downs... she was at home by herself so much because I worked and volunteered a lot. She was quite the naughty girl! But after Cory and his parents stepped into the picture, she calmed down A LOT. I totally credit them with taming her wild side! They gave her so much attention... much more than I had time to give. She used to visit Cory's parents every now and then before we got married. Once we married and moved closer to them, Boo started having weekly visits. Sometimes sleepovers (for days), sometimes just a day visit or a small visit for a walk or two. She is like their grand kid... and she loves them to death! (And they love her!) Cory and I often wonder, if she ever got stranded somewhere.... would she find her way "home" to our house... or to theirs! I am so grateful for their involvement with Boo!

They are coming over tonight for cake, homemade ice cream... and presents! I'm sure I'll post pics!

On a side note: Weezer, our cat, already opened one of Boo's presents! I had them wrapped in tissue paper and sitting off to the side in the living room... and the cat decided she was going to check them out and ripped into one! What a goofball!!

Bath Time for Boo!

We have found 2 ticks on Boo in the past few days. We think they were dead because they came out without a hitch and her flea/tick meds are supposed to kill them shortly after they attach... but it's still GROSS nonetheless. There is nothing worse (ok, there ARE worse things...) than rubbing your pup's neck and your fingers brush past those hard tick shells. (Just thinking about it gives me the heebie-jeebies).

Cory did some research about when is a good time to give your dog a bath before they get their dose of monthly tick meds. They say to bathe 2 days before the meds... so last night was BATH TIME!

Boo did really good... and boy, she was dirty!

(Doesn't she look pitiful?)

After her bath, I had a fun time blow drying her. She LOVES it! It didn't get her all of the way dry, but it helped her not have to shake a billion times. (Which is nice for ME since then I don't have to wipe all of the splatter off of the wall!).

Here she is... ALL CLEAN and HAPPY!
(and a little frizzy!) :)

We love our clean Boo pup!

On a side note, Cory weighed himself yesterday and then picked up Boo and weighed them both together. She is 82 lbs! That is not good! She is about 12 lbs overweight. Last June she was 67 lbs! We are going to have to get her back down before her next vet appointment!! (and we don't even feed her people food!)

Our Girls...

Things are back to normal at the Hen House. The new girl is adjusting... I named her Tilly. We have some work to do on her to fatten her up... but that shouldn't be too hard! We have been getting a fair amount of eggs from all of the girls and expect to get more as the weather improves (slowly, but surely)!!

Today I plan on sewing some things for my Mother In Laws birthday (Friday)... and running to the store... so there isn't much to report on.

I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my babies.

I love it when Weezer lays in weird positions. I know, I'm biased! What can I say!?

Boo is the biggest baby EVER... and was lounging back on Cory. It looks like he is holding her... but he really isn't. We often rub her legs... so that's why he is "holding" her leg. She is SO spoiled!! :)

We love our girls!!

Trick or Treat!!

Happy Halloween!
Love, Boo

This is what you do when you don't have any kids! Unfortunately, we couldn't get her to hold the bucket in her mouth, so we pinned it on. She was quite the little cow girl and surprised Grandma and Grandpa last night (Cory's parents) for Trick or Treating.

I Can See It!!

I can FINALLY see the grass! I have never been more excited in my life to see grass in my front yard! Granted, it's wet and mucky... and there are still huge splotches of snow surrounding it... but it reminds me that there is HOPE for a brighter season... SPRING shall soon be arriving!!! Even if Punxsy Phil said we had to wait 6 more weeks. Phooey on him!! I am holding out hope that spring will come sooner rather than later!! I am SO ready for it!

Yesterday was a good day. Boo and I went out to Cory's parents place to hang out. Cory was off helping some friends with their taxes, so Boo hung out with Cory's dad... and I went with his mom to the basement... to look at... BABY PICTURES!!! It's been 3 years and yesterday was the first day I saw Cory's baby pictures. Oh my goodness. They are SO cute! It's so weird to see pictures like that and then look at the person NOW and see the similarities and differences. (He had quite the head of blond hair!) I thought it was hilarious to see all of the toys he had in Christmas pictures. I kid you not... a big Mr. T doll! Complete with bling! A smurf tricycle! A ton of GI Joe, WWF, Transformers, etc. And a HILARIOUS Alf shirt! We enjoyed going through the pictures and talking. Boo enjoyed all of the attention she was getting also. It was a really nice day away. I am glad I was able to take Boo. I always feel guilty leaving her home alone for any extended amount of time (even when I go to work!).

I came home to find a book in my mailbox! If you haven't checked out That Chick Over There's Blog... I highly recommend it! She is just REAL. Recently she wrote a book called "Meeting Mr. Wrong. The Misadventures of a Southern Belle" . I pre-ordered it awhile ago and was so excited to see it in the mail! I immediately started reading it and was totally laughing out loud only a few pages into the first chapter. I'm looking forward to reading the rest over the next couple of evenings!

Is everyone gearing up for Valentine's Day? I can't believe its almost here already! Time sure flies! Cory and I have decided to just hang out at my house ALL DAY... and he even agreed to watch the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES movies with me! Woot! He doesn't know what a T R E A T he is in for! :) I will probably make some different foods to nibble on for our movie day and just enjoy the nice, quiet time at home. There is a show at the teen center that we probably should have said we'd volunteer for--however the guy who does the booking doesn't really seem to CARE that some of us may have VALENTINES DAY PLANS and just books whatever he wants without asking if it's a good day for everyone else (while he, of course, never bothers to come to ANY shows). So, Cory and I opted out of this one. We didn't really feel like spending our Valentine's with a bunch of people we don't know and hey, we'll be there the day BEFORE volunteering anyway. So oh well!

I am off to eat some breakfast and get ready for church!! Have a GREAT Sunday! (I hope you can see some grass too!!!)

My Afternoon Snowball Disaster!

*sigh*

I was able to get out of work a little after 3 today. I've been getting a lot of over time now that they laid off my coworker in receiving. (Makes sense to pay 2 people time and 1/2 to cover for the job of one person. Yeah. Oh well.) So I decided to cut out 20 mins ealier than normal. Anyway... I came home, dropped my stuff inside and took Boo out to the back yard to play a little. She ran around a couple of minutes... then she kept sniffing (or what looked like sniffing) at the grass. Now, the snow has melted considerably. We have more grass showing than snow at the moment. Well, I started throwing small snowballs at her to get her attention. I am not a very good shot, I must say! But she just kept "sniffing" all over the place. Come to find out.. she discovered yummy rabbit turds all over the yard. Everywhere she went... she'd scarf up a little pile. (OI!!) So, I started chasing after her... which was more like... taking a few steps toward her which made her scurry all over the place. It was funny. Finally she gave up on that game and started sniffing for the rabbit presents again... and so I figured I'd throw one last snowball at her and take her inside. One.last.snowball. I leaned down to scoop up a little handful of snow... only to realize that in a split second, my fingernails had grazed upon quite the chunk of dog pooh hidden beneath the white, slushie mess. Great. Like I said, one last snowball. For sure. I couldn't have been more disgusted! EW! I immediately called Boo to come inside with me and scrubbed and scrubbed! UUUUUGH! I then had to clean up (shower, etc). Well that entailed... washing my face and washing my hair, etc. All the while feeling like little particles of dog doo-doo were still haunting me. You know, the microscopic particles that you can't see... but that make you sick or.. ughh! Gross! So... I have no word to the wise... because I honestly had no idea that there was a little surprise under that pile of snow. I guess all I can say is... never eat yellow snow... and hope to God that next time you go to make a snowball... you don't stick your hands in anything brown!!! *gag*

M.I.A.

I have been absolutely busy this week!!! I had meetings on Monday and Tuesday... then Wednesday I took my grandma (with Alzheimers) out to dinner... and last night was the only time I've gotten to see Cory all week (and I won't get to see him all weekend because he is going to MD). Not to mention, trying to keep up with housework. And I have a lady who wants me to make her a pair of mittens... so I've had to get all of that together so she can choose her color/pattern. It has just been hectic! But it's Friday and hopefully I will be able to relax a little this weekend. (Probably not... but I'm hoping!!!)

Last night, in the horrible lighting of my living room (when the main light isn't on)... Cory was taking pics of the animals... they look a little creepy. LOL! But we love them!

Well, I have to hurry to get ready for work... so I'm off! Have a nice day!!

I'm Back!

Real quick, as I am supposed to be getting ready for work...

Cory and I took a weekend trip to Massachusetts... I have pics and stuff to post. But I picked up Boo to find she had a couple of ticks (she stayed with Cory's parents and they had her outside--they live near more woods than I do). So luckily Cory tweezed them out! Then I came home and found ANOTHER one! So poor Cory had to drive out to get that one out also. ICK!! I haven't had any time to do anything. I've barely even unpacked. I will write and post pics later on this evening if I have time. I would like to relax a little and go read all of your blogs also!!

Hope all is well!!!
