The black background is a bit of a risk for a Mother's Day card, but I LOVE the way white embossing colored with metallic watercolor pencils looks on black, so here it is. I hope the recipient appreciates my artistic gamble. LOL.

 I stamped and die cut this wonderful image from Altenew's Extra Special Stamp Set, mounted it on a strip of Patterned Paper, added the sentiment, and that was it! I love the way it turned out.

WWC165 - Tenia's "All About Occasions

I am delighted to say that I am Guest Designer at this week's new Watercooler Wednesday Challenge:

WWC165 - Tenia's "All About Occasions". I chose Mother's Day as my occasion, and used Winnie and Walter die and stamps to complete my sentiment. 

I decided to try a new-to-me watercolor powder technique that I saw on Splitcoast Stampers in which you sprinkle the powder directly on to a background stamp, spritz it with water, then stamp it. Using a MISTI for this technique allows you to keep spritzing and stamping until you are happy with the result.

My take is a Mother's Day card for my sister. I went with Hannelie's colors over a white embossed panel cut with a stitched square die, and split to add part of the sentiment. Inside sentiment: Happy Mother's Day.

Time for a new game at AAA Cards Challenge Blog. Our theme this time is Stenciling. There are so many techniques to use.

I did some research on stenciling techniques and learned a lot. I tried this stenciling with watercolor technique using Brushos, and am now in LOVE with this medium and technique, as well as many variations that can be used with powdered watercolors. 

 I'm thrilled with the results and plan to incorporate this technique and medium into many of my cards in the future.

Happy Hydrangea Mother's Day

I love hydrangeas, as does my mother.  Mother's day is next Sunday here in the US, so it's time to make mom a card. I have had this Happy Hydrangea set from PTI for a long time, and I have never shown it any ink.  In an effort of trying to use some of my stash that has been neglected, I checked out this week's Shopping Our Stash Challenge. This week's challenge is "Opposite Day" - to make something that's opposite your usual style.  So I pulled out my Happy Hydrangea set, and some PTI inks and went to work.  I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch #184 for the layout of my card.  I have been leaning toward Clean & Simple for quite a while - I don't use a lot of layers.  This card has 5  layers, and through it is still rather CAS, that number of layers are not my usual.

After stamping the hydrangea panel, I added a little Platinum Stickles to give my hydrangeas a little sparkle.  Not sure that I love the different sizes of stitching on the rectangle vs the fishtail die cuts,   but I decided to leave them as is and call it a card.

The Pink Elephant Challenge this week is Anything Goes, so I am posting this card to their gallery as well.

CAS Mother's Day

This week's Less is More challenge is to create cards with cards with little or no symmetry but perfect balance.  PTI's Make it Monday challenge is to create something with a hand drawn frame.  This card is the result of the combination of the two.

I have to laugh at myself.  I watched Nicole Heady's wonderful technique video in which she demonstrates how to make a hand drawn frame.  Well, the video is great and the technique looks easy.  This card is the result of my FIFTH attempt.  I just could not get the corners right.  In the end, I cheated a little and put half pearls in the corners because I was not satisfied with my corners on any of my attempts.  Nichole's is perfect and gorgeous - mine - not so much.  I do love the way the card turned out though.  I really like the addition of the DMC thread on the buttons.  It gives the buttons a "sunflower" feel.

Paper~Kraft, Gina K Pure Luxury Pure White 120 lb.
Ink~VersaFine Onyx Black, Old Olive, Cajun Craze.
Accessories~PTI Vintage buttons, Kaiser self adhesive half pearls, DMC floss-black, glue dots, CM fine tip black pen.

Happy Mother's Day

I waited too long to make my Mother's Day cards, and to add to that, the creativity was just not flowing. I had recently received Verve's gorgeous Because of You set, and had to use it. I was perusing Laura Fredrickson's BLOG and found THIS card, which is amazing. I CASE'd it for my mom - it was so perfect. I changed it by adding a base of Purely Pomegranate and mounting the white on top. I used Cameo Coral for the base strip down the left and punched it with SU's new Eyelet Border Punch. I added a strip of Raspberry Tart DSP on top of that. I used was Kiwi Kiss double sided satin ribbon with a piece of Hodgepodge Hardware at the knot. The sentiment is stamped on white with Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink. It is then matted on Kiwi Kiss. Cameo Coral and Kiwi Kiss are used to highlight the words "inspiration", "Because of you", and "purpose". The flowers and greens are stamped with Cameo Coral and Kiwi Kiss. I added some Cotton Candy Stickles on the flowers for a little sparkle. I gave this card to my mom tonight. She LOVED it. Thank you Laura for the inspiration.
