Steampunk makes Lynne think of different mediums and textures, so that's where she began. She covered a paper mache book box with Graphic 45 Steampunk papers using Multi Medium. She then spritzed the whole book with Biscotti Perfect Pearls Mist. She used the Sewing Room and Gadget Gears dies and cut from various mediums. She accented her butterflies with Patina Stickles.
Candy decided to mix Steampunk with Halloween. Meet Mr. Bones! Complete with Witch Hazel, a Skeleton Key and a Mini Steampunk book, Mr. Bones is Steampunked out! His clothes look like faux leather. They are made out of black cardstock sprayed with Ink Refresher. That ghostly glow is from Copper and Gold Perfect Pearls. The embellishments on Mr. Bones' book, hat, vest and leggings are mainly from Tim Holtz' Sprockets and Gears, Game Spinners with a little 7 Gypsies Industrial Gears thrown in the mix.
Tracy was eager to use one of the Wendy Vecchi Artful Shrines and the STEAMPUNK theme seemed the perfect opporunity. The shrine was coloured with Distress Stain Vintage Photo and decorated with Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante Paper. Tracy added art parts from the Dress Forms And More set (using the heart and dress form), decorating the dress form with Graphic 45 papers and adding Black Ultra Thick Enamel to the heart. To add dimension, the whole piece was adorned with Idea-Ology, Game Spinners and Sprocket Gears and Gadget Gears cut from Grungepaper. To complete, STEAMPUNK was added to Jump Rings adhered with Glossy Accents.
Terry made a Steampunk Heart....she wanted to use the new Steampunk stamps from 7 Gypsies and the fabulous Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante paperpad. The film strip is selfmade, colored with Distress inks and stamped with The Wendy Vecchi Dreams of Art Set and heat embossed. The flowers from The Wendy Vecchi were colored with Vintage Photo, Pine Needles, Rusty Hinge and Aged Mahogany. On top she worked with the Glossy Accents and Crackle Accents. The mini dress was heat embossed and worked on with copper embossing powder.
Ellen decided to get 'punky' with an extra large tag. She used papers from Tim Holtz' Crowded Attic stack and Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante collection to cover the base of the tag, and then used Tim Holtz dies (weathered clock and mini gadget gears) to weave a pattern of clocks and gears, painted with Ranger's black paint dabber and highlighted with gold paint dabber. Added some idea-ology sprocket gears, a 7 Gypsies metal corner, and a sentiment from Dyan Reaveley's Quintessential Quotes stamp set.
With Steampunk as the challenge this week, Nancy went straight to Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante 8x8 paper pad. The smaller scale of these patterns were just the right size for the Altoid-like tin Nancy decided to alter. Two sizes of Grungeboard Wings were put through a Sizzix embossing folder before being painted and inked. They were then added to the front of the tin along with Idea-ogy gears.
Sarah immediately imagined eccentric Victorian inventors, lots of metal and gadgets! Tim's Steampunk stamp collection provided the perfect trio of gentlemen and detailing. Sarah also used lots of Wild Honey Distress Stain, Espresso Color Wash, Alcohol and Distress Inks to colour and stamp her background. An array of rusty metal findings finish her piece.
DanDan was inspired by the Jules Verne steampunk classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" to create this porthole-styled clock. Products he used included the chocolate brad set, Claudine Hellmuth Charcoal Black paint, Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears, the Big Top stamp set, a plaquette and the Clockworks embossing folder.
Linda Coughlin
Linda chose to portray steampunk as a time early in the mechanical age which was possibly explored at the Paris Exposition of 1889. She cut chipboard gears with the Gadget Gears die, stacked them 3 high and coated the entire piece with fiber paste. When dry, she used Vintage Photo Distress Stain as a color wash and stamped images from Artistic Outpost's Paris Exposition on tissue paper and adhered them with Claudine Helmuth's Multi Medium Matte.
For the theme this week I decided to make a card! I used Tim's Weathered Clock die, then masked and stamped the centre waste with several of Wendy Vecchi's Steampunk Art stamps. I embellished the final card with Idea-ology Sprocket Gears.
