Random Stuff

Work: First week of work is ok, colleagues are friendly, but I'm still lagging behind in work. Attended 3 meetings already, and I only completed one set of minutes. More work pouring in, but I think it's good. Rather be busy than slacking there.

Kick-boxing: Rushed to my Thu KB lesson, and got a chance to speak with the instructor, while waiting for the yoga class in the studio to end. I was so appalled to find out that she's actually 35 years old. She looks like she's in her mid-20s to me! The wonders of exercise..can really keep a person looking young. Better start from now. Unbelievable. She said she used to have an office work, but very onz about aerobics, boxing, so she always knock off at 6pm and rush to the gyms for these lessons. She used to take 3 lessons back to back! (A bit siao onz). Then she hanged out with the instructors at the gym and they recommended her to get certified as an instructor, which is what she did, as she's passionate about it. But wow, must exercise more to stay young!!

Friday: Knocked off work at about 7pm, and went with a few colleagues to 211 cafe at Holland V. There was a UOB promotions, and you get a one for one pasta/pizza. The food is quite delicious. Ever wondered why 211 cafe is known as such? We were guessing why too. Eventually when the bill came, we asked the waiter why. He replied that the cafe is situated at block 211, but that's not the main reason. The other significant reason was coz their chinese boss, Mr Lim, has got 2 sons and 11 daughters!! Wow...After dinner, got a ride home and went to bed asap coz gotta wake up really early on Sat for my Family Day.

Busy Sat: Cant image i woke up at 6.30am just to reach Suntec at 8am to prepare for the Family Day. It went well, and pple started arriving as early as 8pm too..siao! I was very impressed by this young magician called Jeremy Pei. He started learning magic from his Dad as young as 5 years old, and he's only about 23/4 now. He has got a long way to go man..and he looks quite cute too, although a little plump. Harry Potter movie was only ok, perhaps about 3 stars. After that, rushed off to NTU for my Orientation. This year, we had about 17 students, and only 3 guys! Most of my classmates are teachers, but almost all were very keen on the Guangzhou practicum, and kept asking questions on it. To me, I'm really looking fwd to it, as a break off from work, and Singaporean life. I think it'd be very enriching as well. Perhaps I can do some part-time jobs there too and try to max my trip.

Will be in Guangzhou from Nov - Dec. Anybody wanna come look for me? Will most likely be living in a "hotel" single room. Can come bunk in with me for free accomodation if you wanna travel Guangzhou. =)

Sun: It's really cooling now, as it was raining. Nice weather to sleep.. =) but i think i gotta start catching up on my work soon coz tmr will be Mon! Tataz for now.. =)

A New Chapter of My Life

Lots of changes in my life lately.

Work : Gonna start work at a new department next Mon, learning curve's gonna be very steep, but the work scope is definiteley more challenging and exciting. It'd only do me good.

And I need to have a new wardrobe for my new posting. Been spending a lot lately on clothes, shoes, etc. Luckily there's the great Singapore Sale, but I can still feel the hole in my pocket.

ECA at Work: Been tasked to be the overall IC for my company's Dinner and Dance - 17 Aug 2007 at Orchard Hotel. Hope everything will be fine. Been really busy with the publicity, table registrations, programme...etc..this will be good training for my wedding (which only God knows when it'd come), as I keep telling my colleagues.

Study: Starting my part time translation & interpretation at NTU in Aug. 2 days per week, Wed 7 - 10pm at Buona Visita (thank God it's not at wu-lu NTU! ), and Sat 9am - 4pm at wu-lu NTU (for this, I can still take a cab from my house to NTU, not so bad, only about 5-6 bucks per journey). Bad point about this is, I cant stay out late on Fri nites! = ( But good thing is that there's a China saga where I'd get to eat, live, talk, and learn as a Cheena for 10 weeks. Cant wait for it to happen!! My little break off work and my mundane Singaporean life. =)

Health: And I've been busy with keeping myself fit and healthy. Ever since the back-breaking saga which landed me in NUH earlier this year, I've decided that health is more important than anything else in the world. It's an essential building block to earning more wealth essentially. Took up a kick-boxing lesson at Bukit Batok Civil Service College, every Thu 8 -9 pm. Felt very good everytime after the work-out. =)

Driving: My second attempt's gonna be on 3 Aug. Gonna take on the challenge of driving thru' the miny courses and western roads. Hope I can pass. I started learning how to drive in Uni, only to stop completely halfway and it was revived last year. I felt like I've been driving for the longest time, and yet I dont have a licence. Let me pass this time, please. Otherwise, will have to take the test again next year, coz gotta wait 4 freaking months for the next slot.

Food for the Souls: Attended Jacky Cheung's superb concert in mid July, and gonna see King Lear at the Esplanda later. I'm gonna have more depth, and food for the soul is definitely appreciated. Movies such as Harry Potter, Transformers, and the Simpsons will keep me going as well.

There's only 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. There's so many things happening in my life, I really need to have good time-management to have a balanced soul.

Wow...next 3 months really gonna be really fulfilling and exciting for me.

The Heavenly Sings

I'm so glad got the chance to watch this concert, by none other than the Heavenly King - Jacky Cheung/张学友. He's by far the only person in Sg for the last 10 years to ever have 3 concerts- complete sold-out!

The concert started at about 8.15pm. We were greeted by his opening "爱火花". Superb dancing and even more superb singing. A series of fast songs. He slammed the mic stand again, and screamed into the mic, as reported by the news. He explained that he's using rock songs to ease his stress and worries, and apparently he felt better after screaming every time. He invited the audience to scream tger with him, and we did. It does feel a bit better. 歌星也是人, the news reported that his dad just passed away last year, and he had severed ties with his brother, who owed the macau casinos tonnes of $$. He paid a large sum to help his brother clear off his debts before severing ties off with him.

Then he introduced himself - 46 years old, and being in the entertainment industry for 23 years. Exactly half of his life, he's spent it on singing. And I'm glad he did, coz his songs are really really good..those that touched your souls.

Since young, all the males in his family (father, uncle, grandpa) were not around, as they were seafarers (not surprised, as Hong Kong has an equally good port as Sg). Thus, he was always surrounded by women as a child. And for that, he told the audience "其实我是很了解女人的".

He promised to write a song for his first daughter, and picked up the guitar to compose the song "摇摇", a Cantonese lullaby. As he claimed to understand women very well, he knew that he'd be in deep shit if he composed a song for his daughter and not his wife. So he picked up the guitar again and gave birth to the very very nice Cantonese song "讲你知". He joked that actually he's very generous, if we like the song and find it suitable, just go ahead and use/sing it. He could earn the royalties then.

====

After 3 years, his second daughter arrived in the world. He has not composed any song for her yet, since she didnt ask anyway. But he felt that the song "在你身边" could aptly summarise how he felt when his daughter was born. Not all love songs are for couples, some can be for people you love, like your family. It really brought a different meaning the next time I listened to this song. You can really feel his joy and anxiety as he welcomed his daughter into this world.

======

He kept asking us "明天有没有做工" I was quite surprised that many people ans "NO" as I had to. Then i realised why. Coz it's a Sunday, and most pple had to work on Mon, he should end the concert early so that pple can report to work on time the next day. He joked "原来这里有很多老板".

He went on to sing his many classics/经典...too many that I cannot remember. Those that I listened in sec school and JC. Really brought back memories then.

In 2003, he said that it was a very down year for him, as many of his friends in the HK entertainment industry passed away. He sang the Canto song "给朋友" for them. At that time, the atmosphere was solemn and the audience gave the deceased due respect by not screaming.

There was a component where he sang songs from other singers, such as "明天我要嫁给你了", "天黑黑" and "爱如潮水". Before he sang, he added a caveat that he was usually very nervous at this segment, coz remembering lyrics at his age is already a chore, and that he "怕唱的不好". In my opinion, I think he sang better than 周华建, 孙 YanZi, and 张信哲. He's simply the best!!

Afterwhich, he started to stage a 舞台剧" with songs from "雪狼湖" and "如果爱". The graphics are really nice - there was a purple misty mountain with lightning bolts appearing here and there, and a full moon. I really like the song "如果爱". This brought the concert to an end, officially. The time was 10.35pm.

====

The audience encored, and he appeared again. Fast songs again, and people rushed from their seats to the front - instanteously it became a huge disco. He was encouraging pple to stand up and dance too! So high..

Then he toned down and started singing "我真的受伤了"..really really nice...He also sang a song for his fans "她来听我的演唱会". The lyrics are so good...17, 25, 33, over 40. Would I still be able to catch his concert at 33 and 40?? Time flies..things change..

===========

He started singing his classics again - he thinks that "吻别" is his classic Mandrain song, while "每天爱你多一天" will be his canto classic.

He said he has been pondering on the meaning of life for the past 3 three years, and he concluded that " 人生就是这样,只要能熬过去不开心的事, 开心的事就会要到了。 总有开心和不开心的事。“

He also said "只要用心唱, 唱什么都会好听" I truly believe in this, as he has displayed it fully. He ended with 祝福 as the finale at 11.45pm.

4 hours of song, dance and acting. 4 hours of bringing the audience's emotions to the extreme peaks and valleys. He sang the song continously, with his trademark apple and bottle of mineral water appearing after the encore. His physical stamina has surpassed most of us here (who will defintely get a sore-throat after singing k continously for 4 hours, minus the dancing and acting!) Every one of his piece are emotional, touching and simply marvellous. Truly, he deserves the title "The Heavenly King"
