Scam
Got a phone call recently. Here's the conversation.
Person: Hi, my name is Peiwen. My company has been appointed to handle lucky draw prizes that are unclaimed. Congrats, you've won urself a prize in the great Singapore Sale, under the consolation prize category. Will you be free to come down to collect your prize?
Me: What is it that I won?
Person: Will you be free to come down today, at either 5.30pm or 7.30pm Somerset to collect your prize? Coz we are calling up people who have won the prizes in the range, and the lucky draw will be drawn on the spot. Everyone will go back with something. You can win either a $3,700 Osim massage chair, $1,500 spa vouchers which can be used at resort overseas, $2,000 Robinsons shopping vouchers or a Creative MP3 player.
Me: I cant remember I entered a lucky draw. What did I buy? When did I buy it?
(Very suspicious, coz I remembered I totally did not buy anything nor fill up any lucky draw coupon during this year's Great Singapore Sale!)
Person: Oh you did not buy anything. You just filled up some orange coupons at either one of the Capital Malls in Singapore eg: IMM, Plaza Sing, Junction 8, blah blah blah
Me: It seems to good to be true. I've never ever won anything big in my life b4.
Person: Not to worry, we are not doing any sales talk or what, you'd definitely go home with a prize. Let me verify your details again, is your name XXX, IC no XXX, address XXX.
Me: Ya.
Person: Do you have a visa or mastercard?
Me: Yes.
Person: Are you the principle card holder?
Me: Well, I'm not using a sub-card if that's what u mean.
Person: Do you have a boyfriend?
Me: What has this got to do with the prize?
Person: Oh, coz if you bring your bf along you'd get something extra too, to bring home.
Me: Oh, yes I have (lying coz wanna see what she's up to)
Person: Why dont I call you back 10 mins later, you check with ur bf if the 2 of you can come down at this date, this time.
Me: Ya, he definitely can make it, not to worry (Lying again)
Person: Can you give me his name? I'd put his name down but once I put that down, if the 2 of u decide not to come, a charge will be imposed on me.
Me: Why would there be a charge on you if we dont tturn up? You can have my lucky draw prize to offset the charge then.
Person: .... (probably realised I know it's a scam)
Me: I dont wanna waste your time anymore and my time, I dont think I can be so lucky to win a lucky draw prize. Good bye.
This is a time-share hols scam where these people call you up, read to you your personal particulars and then ask u to come down to collect ur prize, and lock you up for a few hrs to promote some time-share resort stuff. Have asked around and my fren verified the fact, the same storyline and tricks are being told.
So frens, wisen up. THere's no free lunch in this world!
