No Sew Pumpkin

Did someone say "No Sew"?

Yes! These pumpkins are only 6 steps and you don't need a sewing machine!
Great project to get the kids involved with.
Have them search for sticks to add to the tops of each pumpkin!

No Sew Pumpkin @craftsavy, #craftwarehouse, #Fall, #Fabric, #homedecor, #pumpkin

Supplies:
  • 16" - 18" square of fabric (a fat quarter works well too)
  • 1 cardboard tube from an empty roll of toilet paper.
  • Polyester fiber fill.
  • Piece of quilt batting the width of your toilet paper roll.
  • A few straight pins
  • Low temp glue gun
  • 2 yards of twine, ribbon, raffia or yarn
  • Embellishment items like knobby twig, leaves, berries ect...

Directions:
  1. Using your low temp glue gun, glue poly fill to the TP roll.

2.  Securely wrap the batting around the fiberfill, but not too tight you want to be able to squish it to make pumpkin sections. Glue outside end into place.

3. Lay fabric square flat on your work area. Center the tp-batting roll on top of the fabric. I listed a range of 16" - 18" for your fabric square as my toilet paper rolls ranged from 4.5" to a bit over 6".

4. Bring Fabric up over the edge of the top roll and tuck inside the tube. Don't grab a lot of fabric at once, small pleats work best. If the fabric doesn't want to stay in the tube, stick a straight pin though the fabric into the cardboard tub to hold it. Continue making your way around the tube until all fabric is tucked into the tub and the fabric is relatively smooth. If it looks a bit lumpy or uneven, pull the fabric out and smooth or massage the fiberfill around and try again.

5. Center your twine, ribbon or whatever you are using under your pumpkin. Bring the ends up, cross them over on the top, down and up several times creating the pumpkin sections. I rearranged them several times before I was happy with the outcome. You can tie it off on the top or underneath. Trim off the excess or tie a bow.

6. Embellish as you wish with twigs, moss, artificial leaves, berries ect... Then glue into place using glue gun.

SeaHawks Fleece Hat

This fleece hat is fun, fast and super easy to make!  Because fleece is so wide you will get 2 or 3 hats out of this much fabric, depending on the size of your head.

SeaHawks Fleece @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #fleece #seahawks #football #diy

You will need:
·
       2/3 yard of fleece
·         Tape measure to measure the circumference of your head
·         Sewing machine with thread to match your project
       Scissors

Directions:

1. Cut a piece of fleece the circumference of your head by 24”.  For example, my head measured 22”, so I cut my fabric 22” going across the width of the fabric and 24” high.

2. Pin the 24” sides together creating a tube, with the right sides together of the fabric inside.

3. Sew the tube together using a zig zag stitch and a ½” seam allowance.  If your fabric has a design, make sure it’s going to be right side up before the next step.

4. Fold 4” of the tube up creating a cuff, matching the side seam.  Pin in a few places and zig zag stitch the cut or top edge of this cuff in place, stretching it ever so slightly as you sew.  Place the cuff away from you.

5. Every half inch, cut down 4”- 6” to create the fringed top.  Turn your hat right side out.  Center the seam in back.  Tightly tie the fringe together with a piece of fleece, ribbon, or yarn cut 10” x ½”.

Fall Pumpkin Hoops

Use your favorite fall fabric collection and these simple hoops to make a festive and fun wall decor! Change your look every season quickly and easily! Use Soft and Bright batting to give your fabric some body and the hoop art some depth!

Fall Pumpkin Hoops @crafsavvy #craftwarehouse #pumpkin #embroidery #hoop #dyl #homedecor

Supplies:

•    14” or 18” wooden embroidery hoop
•    Fat quarter of fabric
•    ½ yard of fusible fleece
•    A bag of polyester fleece
•    Iron on word* if you are creating the welcome pumpkin
•    Aleene’s Tacky  Glue
•    Americana Gloss Enamel in complimentary color
•    Twine
•    Masking tape or painters tape
•    Cardboard larger than your hoop (a cereal box is great!)
•    Pen or pencil
•    Embellishments
•    Frixion pen, optional

Directions:

1. Using the Frixion pen, trace the inner hoop onto the fusible fleece.  Center the same hoop on your fat quarter and again with the Frixion pen, trace around it.  Again with the inner hoop, trace it onto the cardboard.  Cut out each.  The marks made by the Frixion pen disappear when you iron on the fleece.

2. Using the tape, securely tape the cardboard to the inner hoop. Set aside.

3. Center the fleece circle on the fat quarter, matching it to the traced mark.  Following the fleece manufacturer’s directions, fuse the circle in place.   Don’t trim the excess fabric.

4. Mound the polyester filling in the center of the cardboard and hoop.  Center the fat quarter/fused fleece circle on top of this mound.  The fused fleece circle keeps the polyester filling from looking lumpy on the outside. (If the entire fat quarter was fused with the fleece, you would find it very difficult to close the hoop.)

5. Slowly put the outside hoop on, smoothing the edges of fabric and stuffing the little bits of stuffing back inside the inner hoop and pulling the fabric to tighten it.  Every so often you should flip the pumpkin over to make sure you don’t need to add or subtract stuffing in different areas.  Tighten the screw at the top of the hoop to secure it and turn the pumpkin package over.

6. Begin taping the fabric to the cardboard, gently pulling the fabric as you tape.  The entire process feels like you are trying to stuff things in a suitcase and close it!  I don’t think you can over-tape the fabric to the cardboard.  When you are happy with the way it looks on the front and the fabric is securely taped on the back, remove the outer hoop.

7. Measure 3 lengths of twine or ribbon long enough to go around your pumpkin and allow you to tie a knot to create your pumpkin segments.  Being mindful of any directional design on your fabric, tie each piece of twine in the back to create the pumpkin segments as shown.  Paint the outer hoop or glue ribbon on to it.  When the paint is dry, run a bead of glue along the outside of the smaller hoop (on top of the fabric).  Put the outer hoop back on the pumpkin and tighten the screw.

8. Add leaves, flowers, etc. to hide the hoop screw.

Note: If you want to create the welcome pumpkin, you will need a word, a fat quarter, ½ yard of fusible fleece and a hoop.  Make sure the word will fit into the size hoop you choose. Fuse the fleece to your fat quarter.  Trace the outer hoop onto the right side of your fabric.  Add 2” all the way around this circle and cut it out.  Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the word onto the right side of your fabric circle. If you plan to paint the outer hoop, now is the time to do that.  Centering the circle in the inner hoop, place the outer hoop on and tighten, pulling the fabric taut as you go.  Tighten the screw as tight as you are able.  Flip the pumpkin over and trim the excess fabric off the back.  Trim the hoop with ribbon, etc.  Cover up the hoop screw as desired with flowers, leaves, ribbons, etc.

* Lowest price of the season 50% off regular prices on Embroidery Hoops, Fabric Tac Adhesive $10.88 (reg $16.99), and Soft and Bright Batting 4 oz $4.88 (reg $6.99), and 30% off Fall, Halloween, and Christmas Bolted Cotton Fabrics on sale until October 27th, 2014

Burlap Fall Leaf Table Runner

There are so many ways to incorporate burlap into your fall decor! A simple burlap runner can do wonders for your table setting. We have also used it on pillows, tied it into wreaths and wrapped it around candles! The possibility are endless! Today I am going to share with you how to create this felt and burlap runner!

This will make 1- 72” or 2 - 36” runners

You will need-

•    14”x72” jute table runner
•    3-6 colors of wool felt, 12”x18” sheets or 1/8 yard of each
•    2 ¼ yards of wool felt for under runner, optional
•    Coordinating embroidery floss, embroidery needle
•    Frixion pen
•    Aleene’s Tacky Glue

1. Cut out the 2 leaves and use as templates.  Trace 12-18 leaves onto each color of felt with the Frixion pen.  (I use Frixion pens for so many sewing and crafting projects.  Write, draw, mark-when you are done,a light touch with your iron over the ink and voila! The marks are gone!!) If you are more comfortable following a line, draw veins on each leaf.

2. Embroider each leaf-I used a backstitch.* Cut out each leaf.  With your iron on medium heat, iron each leaf to make the pen lines disappear.
Spritz the table runner or use steam to get the fold lines out of the jute/burlap runner.  If desired, cut the runner in half.

3. Place the leaves in a pleasing design. Glue in place.  Let dry and enjoy!

4. Place the leaves in a pleasing design.  Do you want to use a centerpiece with this runner?  Be sure to leave room in the middle for it.  Glue in place.

Let dry and enjoy!

Quick tip: I found it easiest to embroider each leaf and then cut them out.  There is more fabric to hold if you do it this way.

Gather Banner

There are so many ways to incorporate burlap into your decor. It is so easy to use too! Create this wall hanging that can stay up all season long!

Gather Burlap Banner @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #burlap #fall #wallhanging #diy

Supplies:

·         ¾ yard of burlap
·         Fat quarter of fall fabric
·         Iron on word by Decorating Your Life
·         Buttons, leaves and other embellishments
·         ½” dowel, finials to fit the ends of the dowel
·         Americana Gloss Enamels Paint, brush

Directions:

I started with a 27” cut of burlap. I pulled a thread near the edge of each long side to get it straight.  Then I pulled threads from each edge to have ½” of fringe on each side.  Next I folded down 1½” from the top to form a casing and stitched it in place.  The burlap was creased and wavy so I heavily spritzed the entire piece with water, ironed it with high heat, leaving it to cool on a flat surface.  You could use heavy steam to do the same.  When it had cooled off, I cut the length off to make the banner 30” long.

Insert the dowel and determine your desired length.  Mark the length and saw it off.  Paint the dowel and finials.  Set aside to dry.

I cut a fat quarter of fall fabric down to a 15” square. Before I permanently adhere any of the items to the burlap, I place them where I want them and take a picture.  I spend a few minutes evaluating what I see in the photo, do some adjusting, take another photo, etc., until I’m happy with what I see.  With the extra burlap I cut out a pumpkin shape. I pinned it in place again auditioning the placement of it with a photo.  Using 6 strands of black embroidery floss, I stitched it in place using long stitches about 1/4”-1/2” from the outside edge of each pumpkin piece.   I stitched the square with the pumpkin into place on the burlap with a button in each corner.  You can fuse the cotton square onto the burlap with heat and bond ultra or glue it in place. I chose not to do that.  You could fuse the pumpkin onto the cotton fabric and draw your stitches on using a black marker.  If you opt to fuse rather than sew, remember it will take longer due to the rough, open weave of the burlap.

I fused the word “gather” onto the burlap following the manufacturer’s directions.  I did find it took more than the 1-2 minutes they said.  It was closer to 5 minutes, but keep an eye on it, checking the adherence every 30 seconds.

I chose to keep my banner fairly simple but you can decorate it with buttons, artificial flowers, more words, family names,-use your imagination!

You can hang this banner by tying a ribbon onto each end of the dowel, or have each end of the dowel setting into a hook or nail.

Gather Burlap Banner @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #burlap #fall #wallhanging #diy
OPTIONAL: buy a half yard cut of burlap and cut your fabric square proportionally smaller.  Just remember that the size of your “gather” word (or whatever word you choose) needs to fit with a few extra inches of burlap on either side.  Your word and your fabric square should not be the same size.  Your eye is happier looking at things that aren’t the same size.  If they are, you can use a button, flower, etc. on either side of the word to make it look larger, as I did on the example.

Miss Kate Quilted Pillow by Design Team Member Jenifer Cowels

Thank you so much for joining me today.  I have such a fun project to share with you.  I was so excited when I opened my Craft Warehouse box and saw the wonderful goodies inside.  I received the cutest mini quilt pattern from Thimble Blossoms along with some Miss Kate by Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics, now in Craft Warehouse stores!.  I couldn’t wait to get started.   After following the easy, clear pattern and having the cutest little mini quilt in my hands I was trying to come up with a different way to use it.  I don’t have very much wall space in my sewing room but I do have a couch.  So I made a mini quilt pillow to adorn my couch.

Supplies:
16”x16”-Pillow Form
Ric-Rac (optional)
Fat Quarter for the back
Directions for 16x16 pillow:
1.       Follow all of the Instructions for the mini quilt.
2.       Baste Ric-Rac along all 4 sides.  (optional).
3.       On the top and the bottom add a 1 ¼”sash and a 2” sash on both sides.  This will give you a 16 ½”x16 ½” square.
4.       Cut the Fat Quarter to 16 ½”x16 ½” for the back.
5.       Sew along 3 ½ sides, leaving an opening for turning.
6.       Turn and press.
7.       Insert the pillow form into the opening.
8.       Hand Stitch the opening closed.
And now you are done!
Here is a close up of the optional ric-rac, I love how it looks like a little scallop.
Here is a picture of the beautiful fabric for the back, I just love it.
I hope you have enjoyed my project today and I look forward to all of the wonderful inspiration from the Craft Warehouse team.
