Corkscrew Bun

So today I was browsing all of the new hair blogs out there. Quite frankly, I am in a hair styling rut. So I was looking to all of my fellow cohorts to inspire me. Voila! I happened upon this post by Babes in Hairland...hence todays hairstyle.

Little Miss is going to the amusement park today and we needed to get her hair off her neck. So we did her style and then twisted the final braid into a bun. No sweating for the park.

Loopy Messy Bun

Get out those bobby pins girls, we're going to make loops today.


Start with a ponytail

Section out a part of the ponytail. I made five sections with hers.

Loop the section up over the ponytail...like so.

Here is where the bobby pins come in handy. Use the bobby pins to secure the loop to the hair. When you put the bobby pins in, cross them. It helps them to stay secure and not slip. Don't worry about the end of the hair...we will fix that later. Just push it to the side and ignore it.

Loop the rest of your sections. See all that stray hair? Here is where we fix it.

Pull the ends up through your loops. I did this by dividing the ends in half and putting each half out the side of it's loop. You can stop right here if you want to because I love the messy look. But my daughter doesn't, so we kept on going.

I curled each of the ends with my trusty flat-iron.

Then I sprayed the heck out of it with hairspray because it was a rainy day and her hair doesn't do so well in the rain.

Then added flowers to the top.

Now, I should have fluffed each of the curls to give it a messy look...but as I said, it was a rainy day and that would have just been a big old mess because we went to lunch and shopping. I didn't want to deal with a big old mess.

Side/Low Ribbon Bun

Start with a low ponytail to the side.

Place a length of ribbon in the elastic.


Section the ponytail into three sections.

Leaving the top part of the length of ribbon out, put the bottom half of the ribbon in with one of the braid sections.



Braid the hair down with the ribbon and secure the end with a clear elastic.

Wrap the braid around the base of itself.

Twist it all around.

Using bobby pins, secure the braid to the hair.

Tie the two ribbons together.

Oscar-esque Bun

Here is another of my friend Hilary's daughters. Hilary is like me and gets bored with the same old thing. She watches for inspiration and she received some from Nicole Kidman at this years Academy Awards.

Pull the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.

Curl the hair in the ponytail.

Divide the ponytail in half.

Take one half and loosely twist it up above the ponytail and secure it with a bobby pin.

Do the same on the other side.

Piece out the ends and spray.

Two Braided Buns

Separate the hair into two high ponytails.
Divide each ponytail into two sections.
Braid each section down and secure with a clear elastic.
Wrap one braid around the base of the ponytail and secure with a bobby pin.
Repeat with the other sections.
Tie a ribbon around the base to hide the ends.

Ballet Buns

I love the shape of the princesses head. It is so perfect for buns. She has the head of a ballerina.

Pull this hair into a tight high ponytail. Soak the ponytail with water and separate it into three segments. Braid each segment as far down as you can and secure it with a clear elastic. Then take the braid on the right...or left...I just did the right one first. Wrap it around the main ponytail and secure it with a bobby pin, do the same with the left braid. Then take the middle braid and wrap it around the side you started with. The ends aren't so pretty because her hair isn't long enough to tuck it under and have it look pretty, so I wrapped the ribbon around the base. I love the upside down ribbon in this hairstyle.

Messy buns

I love a slanted part. Part the hair from the side where their hair parts naturally and part it to the center of the crown. Pull into two ponytails. Twist until the ends just poke out. Secure with bobby pins. I love putting ribbons at the base. Spike out the ends.

Double twisted bun

Pull the hair into a low ponytail. Section into two pieces. Twist one piece and secure with bobby pins. Twist the second section and wrap the opposite way. Leave the ends out for flipping.

Two braid buns inter-twined with ribbon

Make two ponytails at the crown. Tie a long length of ribbon and section the ponys into two. Using the ribbon as the third piece, braid. Fasten at the ends with an elastic. Wrap the braid into buns securing with bobby pins. Tie a ribbon at the base.

Two ponytails tied in knots

This one was much cuter before she came home from school. I took the ponytails and twisted them and tied them in knots at the base. I secured the knots with bobby pins.
