My goal for the the time until the 51k is to run between 25 and 30 miles per week. I have made a point to focus on miles rather than speed. I don't want to get hurt again.
Last week, it was 12 miles. We did 12 miles around Mission Bay. It was pretty cool to run 6 miles with 2 other girls and then start a run with the entire running club. When they turned around at 1.5 miles, we kept going for a grand total of 12 for the day. It felt really good. The other girls were asking a ton of questions about marathons. They are both running their first in the next few months. It was fun to be the veteran of the group.
This past Saturday we did 18 miles. We found a great path that wound around Mission Bay and then Sea World. It was fun to run on the path that we ran on marathon day. I think I have a touch of PTSD or something, because it makes me emotional to think about. I think people are so right when they say that there is no run like your first marathon.
The 18 was tough, but not that bad. Here is a view of us at mile 14 or so, outside Sea World:

I didn't eat well enough, so I got hungry. The clouds disappeared and left us with total sun. The last couple miles were tough, but we did a great job and I didn't cramp up or have any real pain. I guess my body is getting used to the longer runs. The best part is that I was not nervous or scared! I just got it done!
I am going to semi-taper the next 2 weeks. I still want to do the 25 miles, but will do more short runs and keep the long weekend run to 10 or 12 this week and 8 next week. I don't think it makes sense to push my body and be tired and sore when we arrive in Vegas. We'll see how the strategy works. These runs over about 15 miles remind me that 13.1 is my favorite distance :)
Yep, I am a badass!
